chicken breasts in mushroom bluecheese sauce
Posted: 3/2/2008 6:02:51 AM
I believe Chicken Cordon Bleu was either created by or named for the famous chain of cooking schools called Le Cordon Bleu - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Cordon_Bleu

And every restaurant I have ever eaten it at has used swiss cheese - never blue cheese

But it all tastes good!

Christmas Party - Shoud We?
Posted: 11/17/2007 5:38:34 AM
What to do at the party? I like the princess's idea: "jump all over me"!!

Ooops - it says "don't jump all over me" - darn!!

Can't think of any party games at them moment - and I would vote to have anyone attend if they are accompanied by a PoFer.

The 8th looks good for me.

so it isn't that I am paranoid - as my profile says, looking for a longterm relationship with someone that has similar interests

This can happen when someone uses a line of text without spaces - as in: ****************************************************************************************

I don't know why they do this - I guess just to fill in the space or attract attention.

Does it happen before or after you logon to PoF?

I'll complement you Damsel: you're cute !!

But seriously folks, call it "picky" if you like, but if you can't learn from your past "experiences" then you are destined to repeat them!

I have a few "requirements" now that I look for, things like honesty, compatibility, trust - and I know it will happen again, as it has in the past. But hopefully my eyes are wide open now!

Pets of all sorts... what type of pet do you have?
Posted: 6/30/2007 12:17:41 PM
Nothing exotic here - a wonderful Cairn Terrier named Ceilidh (for you non-Scots-types that is Gaelic for "party"!! - so he is my "party animal"

two cats that are sisters called Nickle and Dime - Nickle was too slow and got "caught" - two litters later and we kept one of the daughters (thanks to my oldest boy twisting my arm - "I will look after her, feed her, let her in and out..." - yeah, right!!) Her name is Tigger - mine is "sucker"

But I love 'em all - even my boys (who can be animals by times)!!

Count me in - if we get enough it will be a great deal and a fun time!!

These are the instructions at the top of the "Prince Edward Island Singles Events" page:
1. Create a thread giving a time and place.
2. Message Bigfish to have it moved to the party forum.
3. Plentyoffish will send out a mass email promoting your event, 200+ people will show

I assume you just start a message to bigfish and mention the title of the post, bigfish will move it to the events section.

Thanks for all your work Damsel!!

Awww - a damsel in distress!! Just what I needed

You may have come across a link to harbour cruises that has a typo - try this one:
http://www.quartermastermarine.com/tour_boat.htm

the one with the typo has a "hyphen" between tour and boat - and that doesn't work!

Parenting Styles

Right on, HarleyDat !!

I had forgotten the "guilt factor" or the "competitive factor" - some parents want to make their kids' experience with them "superior" to that of their ex. But that isn't helping the kids!! To give in to your kids to make their time with you more fun is a BIG mistake! A parent may not realize it at the time - but the child will later in life when they have to deal with "real" life, i.e.: people who don't have to give in to them, like supervisors, landlords, police, etc.

It is the age old question - do we protect our children and isolate them from the "real world", then release them into a world of rules and procedures that shock them? Or do we we impose rules on them in a firm and loving way so they are prepared for the "real world".

That would never happen in my house. I have three sons and they have too much respect for me and others. They have been taught what selfish means. Each must make some sacrifices for siblings and parents.

But attitudes like that have to be instilled early in a child's life. Often by the time a child reaches teens it is too late and it is conflict that results. Then many parents would rather give in for the sake of peace than have the conflict.

Thoughts on Canadians being involved in the Gulf War
Posted: 6/11/2007 3:38:01 PM
Damsel - don't be in distress!! For sure you have every right to comment - and add levity. Sometimes I am too serious. But there is so much misinformation - I wouldn't want anyone to have the misconception that our troops are on a peacekeeping mission.

To my knowledge NATO doesn't do "peacekeeping". From a National Defence website: "Afghanistan is not, nor has it ever been a traditional peacekeeping mission."

Our fathers may have crossed paths - Dad was on corvettes during WWII !!

And you are on for the pool game - we are overdue for another get together !!

That would be a cute comment by "Air Farce" if it were true.

However NATO Forces never went to Afghanistan on a peacekeeping mission. The purpose was to fight the Taliban and protect government agencies and NGO's while they try to do the work of rebuilding.

But of course Air Farce is supposed to be comedy.

In response to: "it won't be long now", my Dad used to say: "that's what the monkey said when he backed into the lawn mower!!"

but in response to his oft said: "you won't harrow the ground that I plowed" - I would reply with - "But, Dad, we are in different fields!!"

if we slacked off or made a mistake he would say "hard to get good help" - but when I started responding "yeah, hard to keep it, too" he would shut up

How would you define a MAN in todays world?????
Posted: 5/28/2007 5:28:31 PM
I am thankful for those who posted Desiderata and IF - all men could benefit with reading these great philosophies - no matter how "sweet" some may think.

As with most men, I was influenced first by my father. But as I grew I began to realize his weaknesses - at least those that affected me. So I turned to stories - both true and fictional - for my inspiration to grow as a man. At the risk of everyone "rolling their eyes" - one of many heroes in my life has to be Jesus. I won't say anymore except: examine His life - not the rhetoric surrounding it. He led a life any man should be proud of.

Other heroes include Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Terry Fox - there are so many.

No man should try to emulate the heroes in their lives, but be a tapestry of all - be their own man.

Is anyone out there Scottish?
Posted: 5/28/2007 9:10:00 AM
I spent about 25 years in pipe and drum bands across Canada - have worn the kilt since I was 12. When I joined the Calgary Highlanders Pipes and Drums they had (and have) a strong tradition. The Canadian Scottish military have the term "regimental" for being a "true Scot". If someone on parade is found out to NOT be regimental he owes a round at the mess afterwards!! Needless to say that one is regimental in every parade thereafter.

I was married in full Scottish regalia - after signing the registry my then wife put on my clan sash for the walk up the aisle. Then members of my pipeband piped us into the reception and had an impromptu concert for us. It was awesome!!

"There the the Scots, and those that wished they were!!"

You are right, Pep, the third Friday of every month - but not sure about the band. The CBC psa's says:

May 18
There'll be dancing and great music in the Clover Club of the Charlottetown Legion at the 40+ Singles Dance sponsored by the PEI Sociable Singles on Friday, May 18, 9:30p.m. to 12:30 with music by Dino and Friends. Tickets are available at the door for $7.00.

That site is:

http://www.cbc.ca/pei/features/psa/

The Buzz usually keeps on top of this, too, but for some reason they don't mention the band for the 18th!!

Here is the Buzz site: http://www.buzzon.com/ Just click on the date!

Let's boogey next Friday!!

Your first kiss - do you remember it and who it was?
Posted: 5/6/2007 1:04:24 PM
hmmmm - first kiss?? voluntarily? or reluctantly?

I remember being "accosted" by an older woman !! I was 7 1/2 at the time (the 1/2 means everything at that age) and she was an older and more worldly nine year old - she had me "trapped" on a train traveling across France. (I know, it could have been romantic if we had been at least 15 years older!!)

Anyway, I was kissed!! And remained confused for about the next 10 years

I eventually learned to like it, then to love it, now can't be without a nice long luscious kiss (with a wine chaser ) Of course a fireplace helps, too!!

Picture or no picture - that is the question
Posted: 5/6/2007 12:53:01 PM
peiprincess read my mind (not an easy thing for sure!!)

as my handle indicates, I am looking for the romantic experience. One of my alltime favourite songs is from South Pacific - Some Enchanted Evening. The first verse says it all:

Some enchanted evening
You may see a stranger,
you may see a stranger
Across a crowded room
And somehow you know,
You know even then
That somewhere you'll see her
Again and again.

When i am in a relationship I also wanted to look across a crowded room and feel the excitement when she walks across the room or is dancing with someone else but will always be coming back to me.

For me, sight is where it begins, but friendship makes it lasting.
