Canceling dates before even meeting - why?

Oh, you...

I have to admit...smelling salts aren't in my medi cabinet....and never had the "vapors"...But, I guess that there one or two in every crowd...

Ta Guinness's flowed rather freely today Belle....I think I may be experiencing different "vapors"

Deb...not only the married kind...but, the ones in a "relationship" going south... not all the way south to Chile...yet, heading in that direction...

Canceling dates before even meeting - why?

Hi Deb,

OP, it doesn't only happen to you...On-line-dating (hereafter, called O.L.D.) is fraught with "issues"...Deb, you touched on a few possibilities...here's a couple of other thoughts;
1) in a bad relationship....and testing the waters...but, not really ready to make the leap....oh yea! happened to me
2) the click and pick mentality...the bigger -better-deal...chatting with you and makes a date....then clicks a "better" one...and "decides" your date is less important than that date.
3) they're just yankin' your chain!

Darn!!!I hate O.L.D.

I'm sorry spunky...you've offended me....in the most base manner...how little you know...I glad that you always had lala land...I always thought it was only on TV...

BTW...I'd spoke of the thinks that make a relationship work...not how to get a date...

mmmmm...wiping the mayo off the keyboard...man, my stuffing was way better this year...does that mean I'm becoming "independent"???

OP,

Geeze...soft answers seem to be offensiu=ive to you...I learned this a long time ago in the threads...don't post a thread if you can't handle the answers...

OK....honestly...
1) your profile says you went to college
2) you can't string one sentence together without spelling/grammer mistakes...usually multiple per sentence...
3) you are 20...and show absolutely..."little" maturity
4) you have a child
5) you have a philandering absentee husband
6) Dad shows no interest in child
7) Husband shows little interest in you.
8) Avon...a job???wtf
9) No car for you...but, husband/daddy can afford a new truck....wtf
10) You take good advise....ignore it...and say your grown-up, a good mommy, and are educated???

2 cents down the toilet...

Anna,

I do not think anyone doubted your parental skills...just your decision making...just the little blurb you wrote shows a mountian of immaturity....keeping a man around that shows little interest in their bio-baby...cheats...treats you...shabbily??? Can't be a healthy enviroment for your baby...it's you and your baby that you should be concerned for....the marriage is a sham.

The Brady Bunch and the Cleavers were just TV persona's...real relationships take time and loads of effort...imagine if we took the time and effort we put into on-line-dating (hereafter, called O.L.D.) and transplanted it into a realtionship...do ya think the relationship would work then??? And, even more so...iof you both put the time and effort into the relationship...ya might then believe in the term "soul-mate"!!!imo

mmmm....OP...Belle is right...and my thoughts are that your emotions are running way ahead of your...azz/husband...I personally, cannot be objective when someone cheats...it's one of those cord issues that I've no tolerance for.

Protect your child...get an education...learn to take care of "your" family...I looked at your profile...my take is:
1) you are married
2) you have an 8 month old baby
3) if n eligable man came along ...you'd be outta there in a NY minute

Your 20...this can all be...if not immediately a good thing...much better than what you have....BUT...a new man ain't the answer....learn "independence"!!!

You know I used to love Rod Sterling

That's the problem.

Men aren't mind-readers
yes, I've had convo that makes me feel as though I'm in the Twilight Zone...but, you know...I've come to enjoy the fact that i'll never know what goes on in a woman's mind...and try as I might...I'll never be a mind reader...still...I love the challenge...

Communication with a woman you're bonded with isn't so hard...one can read the tonality, inflection, and manner of what's being said...I know..I know...there still is the "mind-reader" stuff....but...if you read the sign...you'll at least understand a little more of what is said...even if words aren't used...

Independence is such a state of mind...if as chame says...that women will soon start wearing male "parts"...well...I'm thinking that it's a good thing there's ineternet porn...sigh...

I didn't coin the phrase "glass-ceiling"...I've seen harassment in the workplace...and I read...I'm not going to discount the fact that motherhood has an effect on the average wage earning...I'm positive it does...but, again to deny the "glass ceiling"??? or to say that labor laws aren't broken every day??? Hey, it's almost time for Santa to come...or as Lewis Black says; delusional.

I think that those women who've never experienced sexula harassment or the glass ceiling in the workplace are fortunate...but, to deny it exists...or perhaps cite motherhood as the reason for harassment/the glass ceiling....well, I just don't get it....the department of labor has well documented statistics on the average wages of women vs. men....harassment laws are in place...yet, harassment still occurs...how long ago was that thread about workpalace harassment? And as one poster above cited....she's witnessed hiring discrimination practices...there will always be examples of exceptional people achieving lofty goals...yet, in the trenches...much is the same...imo

You know....I'd like women to list the ages of their kids...or at least general ages...so, I can see if we'd be compatable...most are nearly empty nesters, but occassionally there's someone in the same boat as me...yet, I've gotta send out a million initial contacts...and receive the; "been there done that-all done with that" reply...how's a guy to know????

Ahhhh...a thread shift that I have a legit opinion about...

There is a glass ceiling
There is sexual harassment in the work-place
There is descrimination in hiring practices

Oh, please contradicte me...because there are department of labor statistics all over the place to substantiate these facts....

And so, any independent woman who strives for more...can meet these "issues" and be held back....yet, when one "flaunts" independence...either man or woman...it's a flag...15 yards...personal foul!!!

You know Deb...common law practices are done in some states here...even when married in those states common law decides the divesture of assets...

As to passing away intestate...well...one would think at our ages they'd have been to the attorney...or at least gone to one of the on-line-will-sites....but, then...shesh....who's got the time to have a will prepared with all the posting we do...

1) sex
2)sex
3)sex

and hopefully, 1, 2, @3 involve a woman....

sh1) fo·ra (fôr'?, for'?)
n. A plural of forum.[/quote you are wrong and can't accept the fact

And personally, some of the posts, I read, have no bearing on topic...and grate on my ears...but, then I'm no Twain...and the rolling laughing man...seems to be able to only crack himself up...sigh...

Independece as seen above...can be taken to such an exterme...as to seem absurd...and when that happens it's just a sad sight.

Well, It does seem like we're boiling it down now....

1) What is your monitary yardstick?
2) Is it true that only younger men can keep up with you physically and sexually?
3) So, anyone of us who's kept a farthling of their life's work should be called out, ridiculed, and told they're ruining their children's lives.

mmm...compatibility...mmm...don't ya love mm's??? Would ya think that there might be some of us out here in cyberland that would like to decide "some" things by ourselves...and maybe compatibility is one of them...

ot: you know the thing about men that I admire is their ability to "get" over things....while women remember what happened years ago...or 250 posts...and then spit it in your face...you see...it's my view that the discussion thends to evolve...which happens over a few of the last pages...still remaining OT...yet, the cackling goes on...the veiled dig continues...not much changes in the threads.....

You know...I'd never given much thought about who buys the coffee...still don't...gues that makes me??? open to ridicule

edit: Thx, OMO....yep...but, when I came into the thread....there was a low snark factor...extending the hand to you....friends?

Gee Granma,
I wasn't speaking to your post...
But, I will say that Zepher's post about lousy lovin' CEO's...contridicts your post...

To most of us on here, we want a partner that compliments us. That is good for our heart, mind, spirit and soul. That makes it worthwhile waking up in the morning knowing that they are there in your life caring about you, caring about US.
Thank you Belle...I do know that it is me that you are refering to...

Sooo...Ms. BooBoo,

I can then infer that your post is not directed to me???

Frankly, some people think that ALL comments are aimed directly at them....EVEN when there's been specific mention of a time, place, or set of circumstances which specifically excludes them. LOL kinda like setting in church and always thinking every thing is about "me, me, me". It's called "guilt complex".

Gosh...the thinly veiled dig....yes, men aren't all that perceptive...yet??? I can't remember were there any white collar men posting about their abilities to provide for their children before mine???? Where did CEO come from in the discussion...no I'm not...and yes, I can see the dig...

Hey, I do get it....throw it out there...see if it sticks in anyone's craw...and back away from the enflamitory comment...cause you were pointing to "other" people...oh, how subtle...it passes us all by...

Personally, I don't think that one can logically interpret Zepher's post...It was full of venom...it made little sense....a white collar man...has all the toys, looks for only a trophy, and ruins his kids by providing for them....yikes....and though she'd never mentioned me by name...it was apparent that it was me who she'd pointed the proverbial finger at....

and you did mention me by name....threw out the appropriate disclaimers...and proceeded to defend the indefensible???

Hey, thx, for the apology...yep, not every relationship will be made in heaven...and I'm pretty sure I become entwined with another unsuitable woman...unsuitable for me woman...but, then I am only man....we don't know too much

BTW, that last friend/relationship...I never felt loved...I'm thinking that it's important to feel loved...jmo

Wow, OMO...The things I've said are repeated from a womans perspective thruought the threads...i.e., the independent thread...comes to mind right off the bat...

Chief supreme....ummm.somewhere just recently I jested that I needed a fail proof recipe for TG....cause I didn't want to poison the kids again this year...perhaps you'd missed that....but, I'm sure thast I've mentioned my culinary skills are deficient yet expanding.

Just like every custodial woman parent...I have to expand my horizons....I'm not a "good" cook...I can make a few things well...but, I've so much to learn....you should have seen the melt-down I had the summer of 08 when making potato salad...it came out pretty good...but, it was a struggle, and I felt ill prepared...

Yet, every woman who says; "I do my own home repairs" can identify with my culinary "issues"...

And BTW...I have one older daughter...and she's been a handful...for like"forever"...

That you think I've portrayed the "perfect" life...ummmm...I don't see it...but, then I write so much thru the threads about my life...I may get confuddled about who knows what, when, and where. It's sooo...perfect...you must have missed my postings about my decease 38 yo wife in 08...who I'd been married to for 8 years...and together for 10....seems the perfect life I had...came to a dreadful screeching halt...shame on you for your "assumptions"

As to my young daughters...everyone is entitled to their own desires...and I'd find that you would not be compatible with me and my family...but, that does not mean I was seeking out "you" or any woman with your attitude about young children...I get it...you've been there done that..and are thru...Hey, I'm fine with that...it just doesn't mean that there's not someone else out there who doesn't "feel" as you do....and it is this woman whom I seek.

Loaded with dough????wtf...I live comfortably...sorry for my good fortune...my ability to provide for my family has always been important to me...and I've very proud of...just as millions of CS women can attest to their ability to provide for their families...I just read a post from silken-fire that said exactly the same thing...should she be faulted for being an attorney, never mreceiving a dime of support, and when in a co-habit situation pays 2/3's of the expenses...seems...a cherry pick of my posts is a good way to bash me...shame on you...jealousy is a "poor" trait.

Father above all fathers??? yep, I am a good father...the best...I take great pride in the fact...again shame on you for trying to burst my bubble...

And BTW...there are many women, in the threads, that feel they could enhance my life and that of my children...sigh...and they live soooo....far away...bigger sigh

Gads!!!! I fail to see how any man who provides for his children...insures their demise

<div class="quote">The guy who says he has achieved the epitomy....worked to put his kids through college will most likely be the parent visitng his kid in drug rehab or paying for the spoiled little azzholes cable bill, his car repairs, his girlfriends unwanted pregnance, etal...
The guy who drives a statement car and thinks he can rest on his laurels and find a woman who has done the same, is in for a rude awakening.
Everything he has worked for and I mean everything can be lost in a second, in the blink of an eye.
True, he doesn't need to ferret around in a chicken coop of losers and boozers who thump a cigarette through acrylic nails and wear cheap Payless shoes that reek of foot odor, but what makes him think a tight assed twit is any better than a woman who has worked all her life being the arm candy of a CEO and the mother to his emotionally damaged children?
Each of us measures success in different ways. I avoid the pansy azzed white collar limp dwicked dude like the Beubonic plague. Know why? They are boring and shallow and full of themselves...JMO

I never will get used to the thought that CS is to support the mother...that it happens is evident...but, in most cases the economic well being of the mother diminishes and that of the father enhances...yet, some will beat this dead horse to death...again...and it is the beating of the dead horse that worries me....are these father's capable of raising their children...even as non-CS's without infecting the kids with their venom??? By Gawd, I hope so...or they're just breeding more rotten father’s and screwed-up women

Created it ? , Umm that would have been Hussein (No not obama's middle name)
Who voted for it ?
Nazi pelosi , john F Kerry , barney frank ...do i really have to list the entire democratic majority ?

The collapse of the housing market , and Barney Frank forcing banks to make poor loans come to mind ... but I'm sure there's more

Yet , he was supposedly able to fool the "Liberal elite" , doesn't say much for the Lefts "Brain Trust" now does it ?...

Yikes...the conspiracy...just like how all women are out for our money by becoming pregnant...supposidly, we'd no part nor responsibility in said pregnancy...just like the Republican "right"

Red flags to me are....and this is like first conversations.... I've had 50 dates but not one of those went to a second date

Geeze, who knew???

I've been at this thing on-line-dating (hereafter, called O.L.D.) for 14 months....I've had numerous dates that didn't go past the first one...some due to me...some due to her....some I dated twice...and decided there wasn't anything there that made me swoon....I've had two that I dated for awhile...sooo...this would be red flag material???Man, I think I gotta whole bunch of other "stuff" that would be beter red flag material...so, I guess I gotta add one more thing to the things that might make me unsuitable...sigh...

All kidding aside...this stuff is so hard that we do...look at a pic...decide if we're gonna make contact....get rejected 50 gazillion times before anyone writes back...maybe make it to a phone call...perhaps a date....find out their a liar about their age, weight, the pics are 5 years old...lithium is their drug of choice.......but, once in awhile....you actually run into someone who might....be right...and you date for awhile...and then start this shyte all over again...sob...if we knew this at the beginning...we'd have never started

There is a flip side to this coin...now I know the OPost is about a man's ability/inability to support a woman...but lets be honest here....for the most part we're all in middle age here...and thus have come to accumulate more than luggage...at least some of us have...

Sooo...as a debt free man...with a decent income...college tuitinon ready for my children...why would I want to sidle-up to a woman with 50 credit cards..paying the minimum monthly...heavily leveraged home...and kids ready to go to college, but not a plan in sight on how to pay for it...oh, and the 2010 car...with 0% down payment on it...

How many women can truly do every repair that's neccessary on their home??? How many cook more than the ready made meal??? How many know how to stretch the value of a dollar???

Because I can cook...don't use the packaged ready to heat and serve kind...of course, my culinary skills still need improvement...but, at least I working at it...I keep my home impecible inside and out...in spite of the 2 giggler's efforts to keep everything in disarray...very rarely need a professional to do work on the home/property that I cannot do....

What's in it for me??? Do I need to place "independent" in my profile to weed out the chafe?

post edit:

Danielle,no-one from around here even knows there's aforum on POF...and I've been around long enough to know better than to even look at the 29 yo hottie who write's that she wants me...hahaha...besides I've a daughter that's that age...yeew...thinking about dating my daughters age....yikes...not here...

Bell, I'd swoop you up in a NY second!

OT...Procreation is a choice that 2 intellegent people make....or 1...depending...just pointing out the obvious....

Yikes....
I do claim to be more desirable (sexually, and for the purposes of a relationship) than Hugh (Alpha)Hefner, to the vast majority of women

Sweetness...I guess that the OPost and this post are somewhat disjointed...and the argument "is" suppose to be presented towards the OPost...not to a thread drift...

Hugh Hefner was brought up by another poster entirely, and is just where the thread has progressed to since the O-Post

And frankly, anyone who likens themselves to Hugh Hefnerness....is..."God" in someone elses book....

Perhaps, I'd missed the point of the OPost....and just interpreted it to be; "women look for provider's to sire their children....and then use the child to gain control over their man"

Any thread drift would be Off Topic...

This article is about the logical fallacy. For other uses, see Straw man (disambiguation).
"Man of straw" redirects here. For the novel Man of Straw by Heinrich Mann, see Der Untertan.
A straw man is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. The basic idea is to "win" an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic.

Presenting and refuting a weakened form of an opponent's arguments can be a part of a valid argument. For example, one can argue that the opposing position implies that at least one other statement—being presumably easier to refute than the original position—must be true. If one refutes this weaker proposition, the refutation is valid and does not fit the above definition of a "straw man" argument

origional opost
It seems to me that women are having kids for reasons only important to themselves.
It's a womans choice if she takes a pill or what ever .It's her choice if she aborts, adopts
or chooses to sell it to the highest bidder or if she decides to keep it.Some woman use this
ability{to get pregnant} ,to snag a guy,to get out of work,to get even, the list is endless.
The part that bothers me the most is when a woman makes all the choices in reference
to the fathers part in this childs life. Some examples; You'll never see your kid!We are better off without him!You can visit your kid if you pay!I don't want any of your hoes getting near my baby! You can see your kid but call first,I might not be at home whenever you decide to see the kid! You can if you...,You can't if you...,I'll tie your ass up in court till your broke or till hell freezes over. She now controls a life other than her own{her childs} She must be god!
she brought a life into this world and will mold this innocent to be what she wants it to be :in
her image} that seems to be a lot of responsibility for a mere human? Maybe they are not just playing God,maybe they think they are God! Well what do you think?
This is not directed to all women, just the women who think they are calling the shots.

Claiming to be greater than Hugh Hefner is a strawman post to deflect from the origional debate
