Is the government making people lazy?
Posted: 10/19/2009 2:39:03 AM
I am a mother of four children and I am extremely grateful for my Centrelink pension. I have friends who were single mums who are now working, plus two other single mother friends who are both doing nursing degrees. One of the nursing students lost her husband this year in a car accident and has seven children, the youngest of which is one and the oldest child is seven. The other student has four children and came from a violent situation. I myself moved 3,000 miles to escape my violent ex. All cases are different and as I said, without these payments we would not be able to provide for our children and give them a decent roof over their heads.

I plan to retrain as a legal secretary again when my oldest child turns 16 and re-enter the workforce. Until then, their safety and security is of the utmost importance to me, along with a decent standard of living. So while you can make assumptions about whoever is bludging off welfare, I think you will find most single parents are just doing their job and waiting for the day that they can earn a good wage and hold their heads up high in society again, whilst bringing up the next generation of model citizens.

I also know two women on a disability pension, both of whom are genuinely ill and incapable of working. This has been an extremely interesting forum. The only thing I will say, is that working people don't have to cope with the put-downs and criticism that beneficiaries endure, because they are the ones paying the taxes. For ten years before I had children though, I too was a tax payer.

Copy of a letter I sent to the UFO society. Did anyone else see the golden UFO over Bribie Island on Friday, 1 August? It was huge and really pretty.

Chinese Style Internet Censorship for ALL Aussie net users without exception - IMMINENT!
Posted: 10/26/2008 5:25:10 PM
I heard this was coming. I read a lot of alternative web sites, one of them is www.naturalnews.com and it's full of great advice. Anyway, more and more people are becoming informed on alternative cancer cures, vaccine dangers, medical mishaps and basically people are able to educate themselves via the internet in a way never before heard of many years ago. I believe the censorship is to stop people questioning whether or not everything the media tells us is the truth and it will be a sad day indeed when our internet freedom is compromised.

Yankee Doodle Dandy - Who will become President of the Land of the Free?

Is anyone here aware of the fact that McCain left his wife of many years when she was wheel chair bound after an accident, and then took up with a much younger woman? I don't think he has the moral foundation required to rule the USA and maybe that's why he took on a woman running mate. I really feel for his abandoned former wife.

Yep, a thousand bucks on Lotto a few years ago. Wasn't even going to buy a ticket, but the kids were whinging and the bakery didn't have change for a $50 note. But, you guessed it, it had to go on the water rates! Oh well!

I would love to be one of those mums who have weekends off from parenting. Sadly, the ex is not to be trusted with the kids due to a conviction. I have friends who have shared custody etc. and sometimes I really envy them because of their freedom.

I reckon too many of us sit at home and expect love to just happen! Me, I've been on here a while, but nobody has really stood out yet. Maybe in a big city there might be more choices and opportunities, who knows! Maybe it's like in The Secret, dream it and it will be! Here's hoping!

Yes really scary for me, lying in bed and being crushed literally by something, couldn't move, couldn't speak. And then another night, same thing, except yelling in my ear as well, complete with a feeling of an actual breath in my ear as well, really angry. It's really difficult to relax after that. No I wasn't quite asleep, and no I'm not crazy!

Ebay - Your experiences, stories, advice

I've just discovered Ebay and have bought Bratz dolls for the kids. I love the fact that you just sit at the computer, then a couple of days later your stuff comes in the mail!

Wish I could do that with all my shopping, groceries, clothes, etc. It would be easier than trying to take 4 kids to the supermarket!

child suport its killing both sides
Posted: 6/22/2007 11:43:16 AM
Oh my God! Frankiepankie2, you're the only other one I've heard of who has got 2 more kids after the partner had the snip!

So did I! He didn't go back to get a sperm count. Is this common? Have you heard of anyone else who has been through this?

My ex pays for 3 of the 4 kids so we're very lucky. The CSA has been really good to me, really understanding and have always kept me up to date with everything.

When the ex changes jobs I usually don't get child support for around 3 months which is a struggle. I find it hard not to rely on child support as it pays for all the fun things like videos, the occasional Hungry Jack's meal, and also usually buys new clothes or school things for the kids.

I could make the ex pay for the 4th kid, go to get DNA etc. but it's only an extra 2% of his wage or $800 a year. He pays 32% of his wage now. I reckon the stress level involved in doing that would be much more than the measely $800 I'm missing out on!

who would join the army 2day, to go fight the war in Iraq?
Posted: 6/17/2007 9:45:26 PM
If they bring in the Draft you won't have a choice. In the US they can draft men and women over 18 which I heard is coming in soon or may be in already.

The sad part is that they get young unemployed men from poor towns to join up and alot of them have already died.

If Bush and Blair had to fight in the war or any of their immediate family had to fight, I doubt that a war would come about.

My ex was a violent person. I am one of the lucky ones who gets child support for three of his four children.

He has had no contact for five years. I had to get the $ out of his pay by the CSA. He is still $4000 in arrears and has been for years as it took 9 months initially to get him to pay.

The good side is that we just got carpet because of the child support payment and once a year I use the child support for a family holiday.

I consider myself to be one of the extremely lucky ones who gets a decent amount of child support.

My children always have nice clothes, a decent meal, full on heating in winter and usually have some sort of entertainment once a fortnight. Without child support, we wouldn't have all that.

I hope they still get the cars, it's a small prize for taking off your gear on national tv.

I still remember the look on that bloke's face last year when he got the scooter, it was hilarious!

I'd rather watch BB than any footy too, at least they get into those **** fights, I reckon it's better than the soaps (don't watch them) and the blokes are usually toned and fabulous...

music industry grasping at straws
Posted: 4/17/2007 1:49:24 AM
I don't understand, what's the difference between downloading songs and recording them on to cd's or cassettes from the radio to make your own collection. I remember recording casey kasem's american top 40 every week so I didn't have to buy any music. It worked well for me. Difference is, nowadays, you can be tracked doing this on the net. We've always done it whatever way we choose, only now they're complaining about it more.

A view of the American Empire in decline
Posted: 4/2/2007 1:48:40 AM
I am always thoroughly amazed at your knowledge. I think the decline of the US is prophesized in the Bible somewhere.

Do you ever visit davidicke.com? He always has insights on what's happening in the US from sources other than main news channels. I'm a bit of a conspiracy and alternatives fan, so maybe it's not for you.

There's also a world war 3 newsletter that was sent to me the other day which was interesting. I also heard there will be a major conflict between China and the US, China supposedly having an army of millions already.

The thing is though, have the major world powers really learned anything from history? They seem to be pretty war hungry and power hungry in my eyes.

There's such alot that goes on behind the scenes with what family is funding which war in which country for instance. I heard that a huge injection of cash from one family was the only reason world war 2 ended when it did. It all makes for very interesting reading anyway.

My mother just been told she has breast cancer huge shock to the family!
Posted: 3/30/2007 10:38:00 PM
Hi Happy Jen,

Yes there is hope. I have a friend who's mother cured herself of cancer. When the doctor went to find it, it had disappeared completely!

She took massive doses of selenium. She also drank essiac tea (a native indian cancer remedy) which was invented by Rene Caisse from Canada. Rene cured thousands of people with her tea.

I also read an article about a woman who had breast cancer 5 times. She was only cured when she stopped all dairy products. Apparently women in either Japan or China don't have high cancer rates and they don't eat dairy.

I have also read about sugar "feeding" cancer. My friend's mother used vegetables and vegetable juices daily (made fresh and from organice vegetables) into which she put colloidal minerals (readily available from the health shop). Apparently sugar not only from lollies, icecream etc, but also from breads, pasta etc. can make tumours bigger.

I hope you find all this helpful. I know of at least three people who have conquered their own cancer using these methods. I wish you the best of luck and good health.

Oh and the Goji juice is excellent, the real berries or dried berries are even better.

75 years of our Sydney Harbour bridge (March 18)
Posted: 3/16/2007 9:43:16 PM
I walked across the bridge when I used to do office work in Sydney. Took 30 mins from North Sydney to get to work in Martin Place.

Went via car across the bridge in 2005 but didn't realise the E toll wasn't where you actually paid. Took a while to get through and felt like a real idiot.

Love the bridge though.

Hi GG

We have level 5 restrictions in Toowoomba. The spuds and pumpkins and also the zucchini plants are doing really well. I use the washing machine water on all my shrubs and they're thriving. Planted 10 trees last month, some magnolias, grevilleas and a photonia. They're doing really well.

My friend has a wonderful vege garden but she's got 4 water tanks.

My tomatoes in pots are going well too. I mulched everything with sugar cane first.

Dancing with the Stars
Posted: 3/13/2007 4:47:51 PM
I met Jamie in the early 90's when my girlfriend was promoting Manpower in NZ. He is a charming and lovely man, and the only one in the group or one of the few, who was straight!

I think Kate always looks stunning and yes, I would love a physique like Tatiana's but, alas, I'm a bit short!

I don't think Jamie would worry about being in the bottom 2. I was very surprised that he doesn't seem to dance as well these days. All the same, it must be difficult doing all that practice, and then having your performance not only seen by millions, but also being heavily scrutinised by those judges.

I think they all do a great job and it's great entertainment.

We can all plant some eucalyptus trees in our back yards. I still remember driving up to Port Macquarie and seeing the koalas running across the road. They are so cute.

Just love koalas. I had a pic taken at Australia Zoo with the koalas and it cost $16 which is donated to their cause. Perhaps more people could do things like this.

I only buy products with natural ingredients, no petrochemicals, as these can cause cancer. I never buy shampoo or soap from the supermarket, always at the health shop, and always chemical free.

I knew that body shop products were not chemical free anyway, but I'm sure lots of people didn't. No won't be supporting them now or in the future.

Why doesn't John Howard introduce working for the pension, between say, the hours of 9.30 am and 2.30 pm, 3 days a week? If you had to take time off for a sick child, then introduce like a glide-time system, where you would work so many days in a fortnight, and, as long as it amounted to the six days, or fifteen hours per week, you could make up for days lost?

Seems to make sense to me and most of us would love to get out and work for our self-esteem and also to meet people.

Would you date a single mum with 6 children?
Posted: 3/13/2007 1:44:58 AM
I so agree! I have five kids. The oldest one from the first marriage, the other four from the second.

I don't have much time and don't have a babysitter. I think it's best not to jump in and take your time with the next partner.

Sometimes, even when you think you know a man, he could turn out to have bad behaviour. There was a course I did at church called "boundaries". There was a book by Dr Henry Cloud and in it was an article on whether someone is worth dating after 3 dates.

Anyway, he says that men who want to commit straight away should sound your warning bells, as should men who blame everybody else for their woes constantly.

The last bloke I dated was always blaming everyone else for everything which was really off-putting. Also when I was sitting in the lounge he played with the kids outside for over an hour. I had to pull him up on it and tell him to act like an adult and I said that behaviour like that made me suspicious that he was only here to see the kids and should be spending time with me. Consequently, I didn't date him for very long as it set off alarm bells.

I think if a man really loves you, he will date you whether or not you have six kids. Just be careful that you attract the right man, sounds like you need a nice partner!

Hi stormbay,

A few years ago an australian bloke invented a motor which ran on water for use in cars. The engine had ceramic casings in it. The engine is called the Joe energy cell, on www.educate-yourself.org.

He didn't commercialise the engine and the plans are there or should still be there for anyone who is interested in reading about it.

People who have tried to make money from their alternative engines have either been paid out, or have seen an untimely death or unfortunate incident.

Hi aussie striker,

I'm very impressed by your knowledge on the subject. No I haven't seen the Al Gore movie yet, but I did see him on Oprah. It was very interesting.

I'm sure the motives for everything can be found in the money to be made in either creating the problem or advising the solutions. Why are they pushing so hard for nuclear power when we can have wind and solar power, probably the money to be made by the government.

When I was in San Fransisco you have to go past all the wind generators when you cross the golden gate bridge into the city. Seems to be working well there.

Hi, I'm a single mum of four.

I will have to go to work but can get an exemption as I will have four children between the ages of six and sixteen when the new law comes in, in July this year. Those people with less than three children between those ages, or whose youngest child turns seven, will have to find fifteen hours a week paid work, or study.

Volunteering as an option is only available to mature aged people either over 50 or 55 years of age. I asked about all this when I went into the Centrelink office this week.

I am very grateful to be staying at home with my children for another few years. They have no contact with their father and my family is all overseas, so it can be a very busy life not only bringing them up the right way, but also things like driving them around can be very time consuming as can trying to get them to eat veges!

I am going to go to university and do a degree so that I will be able to enter the work force full time, as the part time wage would really only pay the after school and before school care fees for most single parents.

Friends of mine have been told by Centrelink that they will be expected to take up a job whether or not it is school hours or weekend hours. They have also been told that during the school holidays they will still have to work, and, obviously there is no holiday pay loading for casual workers. Time off would have to be without pay and with repercussions from Centrelink. Ouch.

Personally, I think that Tafe and Uni will fill up pretty quickly when people realise they won't be able to find jobs.

I manage fine on the pension, but, I am one of the lucky ones who receives child support and I don't have any significant debt. When I was first on the pension I owned a home but had to sell it as I couldn't afford the mortgage.

who/what were you in a past life..........or liked to have been

Apparently I was a sea captain, a nurse, a jeweller and a battle leader like Rob Roy. I was told we didn't have guns but we did really well.

It's funny I've always loved the sea and I designed my own wedding ring when I got married. That was quite a few years before the reading.

Apparently I'm courageous which sounds good! Oh and an old soul.

I wasn't told whether or not I was married or anything which would have been interesting.

Is posting bad for your image?

If there weren't any posts, there would be nothing for me to read when the kids go to bed! I think lots of us mums love to put our 5c worth in and "talk" to other adults, even if it is via the computer.

My computer was gone for a couple of months before buying a new one and I missed it like crazy. I love to gain insights into the people who post on here and no, I don't think it would ever detract from a person's image. At least they've got the guts to contribute and let others hear what they have to say.

I so agree. But it's great to be in a relationship where you both love and lust after your partner. It keeps things alive and good sex makes for a happy relationship. Now if I could just get that elusive man who will do dishes as well ....
