1. Don't get rip roaring drunk;
2. Don't get grabby; and,
3. Don't talk about all your other girlfriends, dates, and/or relationships and why SHE was to blame for everything that went wrong, all night.

Need recipes for Mussels or Clams
Posted:

Four bottles of white wine (cheap wine is fine), 2 large cans of chicken, beef or veggie stock, red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, lots of garlic and butter, and steam till shells open. Works well with mussels or clams or oysters, serve over risotto or white or brown rice or angel hair, with some asparagus or other veggies or a nice salad, and a loaf of crusty bread.

Interesting Egg Salad
Posted:
4/30/2009 12:33:31 PM
You know the look of egg salad has never really bothered me, unless it was in a vending machine. I'm kind of a purist in terms of how I cook my egg salad eggs and learned a long time ag0 that the perfect hard boiled egg is key. So having said that, a perfect hard boiled egg, put in pot, and set to high, when it hits a roiling boil, set kitchen timer for one minute, when timer goes off, pull off heat and let sit for exactly 5 or 6 additional minutes, depending on how firm you like the yolk. Never fails to be the perfect hard boiled egg, it's never runny and ends up being just perfect.

Like I said, professional exhibitionists, and that's just the tip of the iceberg, some are rather disturbed, but apparently it makes for some great ratings and someone, somewhere is making money on it, so I'm sure that these types of shows will only get more prolific. Sad really, but to each his or her own.

I see what you are saying and I would agree in that context, but bear in mind that those studies sometimes can, as you stated, be deficient if they are lumping together psychiatric disorders and psychological impairments with things that are not necessarily severe, and completely treatable, i.e., ADHD, and things like that. However, I would, as I said, agree that in cases where things go untamed, untreated or are ignored, shows of that nature, if not being monitored appropriately by parents, can reinforce negative behaviors, but then again so can video games and many other things. I would agree that genetics plays a part in some disorders, but I think in the end those disorders grow to be far worse, when nurture is not something that the parent(s) are inclined to participate in actively and appropriately. It's sad really, I see it far too often in my work, and truly wish I didn't.

"meaning deviancy is no longer considered to be an outlier or atypical but normal behavior!"
You make a very salient point, and the shows that you mention definitely depict the foregoing in all of it's glory, and perhaps some of the behavior being seen nowadays has something to do with them, to be sure, given that these shows would appeal to a certain caliber of person, but I still tend to believe that a whole lot of the behaviors you are describing and that are, I agree, running rampant in society today, have more to do with poor parenting skills than anything else. I'm of the paradigm that people are definitely a product of their environment and upbringing, and if they view the goings on, on shows such as Jerry Springer as normal, everyday, goings on at home, then they are more than likely going to model their behavior after what they have seen and what has become, to their, view normal. Granted there are many exceptions to this rule, however, it takes a certain strength of character and presence of mind to fly in the face of everything that is being foisted upon you as you are growing up, and create a whole new and different set of norms and mores and this works in both directions, i.e, people that have everything stacked against them and rise above it, and people that have every opportunity and sink to the depths of depravity.
I've only ever watched Jerry Springer once, and I had this uncontrollable and somewhat overwhelming urge to bathe in Clorox when it was over, and to run to the doctor for a Penicillin inoculation... LOL... it's probably one of the main reasons I have 7 or 8 shows that I watch or DVR and nothing else...

Comfort, thank you... however, although I agree that actors, musicians, professional athletes, and the media do influence the decisions that people make socially and culturally speaking, whether it's subconscious or not, I do not count reality TV people in any of those categories.
I'm of the opinion that most reality TV people, MOST being the key word here, are professional exhibitionists, and little more than that and while some may have some actual quantifiable skill on some level, most are simply out to make spectacles of themselves and the more shocking the subject matter, i.e., Flavor Flav, I love New York, Bridezillas, etc., the better and more voluminous the fodder for their ego tripping. The Cougar is pretty much right up there in terms of base subject matter. I sincerely doubt that anyone with the intellect above that of a dust bunny would watch any of these shows and think, "wow, I aspire to be just like that". I don't think so...
Reality TV is a convention and creation and logical development of the 20th century, inasmuch as Hollywood has run out of interesting things to put on TV with original subject matter and story lines, and has turned to the next, most logical subject to depict, which is humanity at its very worst and most deplorable. It's no coincidence that the most popular of these reality shows are the ones that depict people in the worst possible light. Psychologically speaking it's like a horrific scene, your brain wants you to turn away because it's so horrific, but the very fact that it is so horrific keeps you transfixed and unable to look away from it.
And very cool about your black belt, I'm very impressed, I hope to one day be a black belt myself, although as Frost would say I have miles to go before I sleep, in this case, get ranked as a black belt... but one day...

"how the heck is this show tearing her down? she loves the attention, gets to act like a ho to a bunch of pathetic men, and you are acting like she's some kind of a victim."
It's called selective editing in the Post process, making some of the guys sound like total halfwits, and making her sound like an even bigger halfwit. Post is where reality shows create their shock value, and sound bites, and typically if they have multiple takes of a scene they will use the one that is the most shocking, funny, disgusting, disturbing, etc., and splice it together with something else equally as bad to create the two minute scene that gets on TV and gets the best ratings. In a show like this there are times they have even more takes than that in order to create the most shocking result they can. So no Virginia, reality TV is not as reality as you think, it's contrived and geared toward specific things depending on the genre and the goal of the particular production. So in answer to your question, yes, the show can, in fact, tear down a person, it just begs the question as to exactly how and that's usually not evident till months later when retrospect and hindsight kick in and people are all shocked and shaken over what a horses ass they made of themselves on national TV, all over Utube, and all over the net.

New BF's acceptance of his ED problem... means no sex for me?
Posted:

Keep in mind that not all pills work the same for all people, that's why going to a doctor is imperative so that he can be trialed on what is available and so the right thing can be found for him, and that's assuming there is nothing else physical going on. I really strongly suggest broaching the issue delicately, because it needs to be broached, before the relationship gets to a point where it can't be fixed and that means a visit to a physician, and if that does not provide a positive result then going to counseling.

"I'm sorry I dont want a paris hilton dog limiting what we can do."
Uhm, my pets don't limit what I do, it's called boarding them assuming I can't get their regular pet sitter... the only time they become an issue is if I decide that potential date is not really floating my boat for whatever reason, and I can think of only twice that I've resorted to doing that because I didn't want to hurt the guy and he couldn't take all the hints I had laid down. I'm thinking if your dates are telling you that they can't do something it may have something more to do with their feeling vis a vis attitude towards you/the relationship than it has to do with the pet(s) limiting them. People with kids do it all the time, they don't really dig the person they're seeing so suddenly getting a sitter becomes impossible, it's a great scape goat and makes the parent not have to be the heavy... for those of us that don't have kids to lay the excuse on, our pets become a great way to get out of dealing with someone we would rather not hurt outright. Just sayin'...

If you really are this emotionally invested in this relationship, I would strongly, and vehemently encourage that you broach the subject of counseling or a doctor's visit. Being resigned to this sort of an issue at 42 smacks of something else going on beyond just not being able to follow through on the act of love making. There is either something else going on here that is not readily apparent from your post, or there is an actual physical issue that needs immediate attention.
Good luck to you I really hope this works out, because it sounds like the relationship is spot on with the exception of the physical part of it. Try to be good to yourself, and realize it's not your fault, and see if this man is as vested in your relationship as you are, and if he is, then he should have no problem going to therapy and to the doctor to rule out all other physical and emotional causes for this issue.

I would strongly suggest you find yourself a good lawyer that deals in Palimony... not knowing what state you're in, you could be looking at protracted litigation if she can prove that that is, for all intents and purposes her residence, and you did, in fact, promise her a life, or marriage, or what have you... I do suggest that you not do anything that could at all be interpreted to as being hostile, abusive or anything else like that, or you could find yourself in even more trouble... I'm sure if you google you can find a lawyer in your area who can advise you best on the Palimony laws, and how they would apply to your situation.

You know no one is psychic, so no one can really tell you if this will or won't work in the long wrong with any absolute accuracy, however, statistically, an age gap that large will produce an assortment of problems. I would have to agree with the poster who mentioned the whole, she might be after security concept, because in all likelihood, that's probably what she is trying to do, whether she is trying to do consciously or not. As for my personal opinion, an age gap that large would make it extremely difficult to maintain a good, solid relationship, under the best of circumstances, and by best it would mean that 9 out 10 things you agree on, you have just about every conceivable thing in common, and are carbon copies of each other, for all intents and purposes, and we all know that's not feasible.
Good luck to you, I hope you come out on the other side of this with a modicum of happiness and contentment, but you really need to consider all of the facts here, and try to make a decision based on the reality rather than the fantasy which you can easily get caught up in.

RET - It figures it would be you who come through with the exact recipe, YAY, LOL, thanks, although this is chicken, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you can use the same parameters for beef or pork or lamb, yes?
The Dr. Pepper idea further down this thread is really interesting, I'll have to try that, again I'm gonna presume this works equally well regardless of the meat or poultry used?
SAND - I tried to email you about that Wasabi idea but you're not taking posts from people in my geographical location, so if you could email me please, I'd appreciate it.

I'm still thinking it sounds like GERD. I would definitely try the things that I suggested, some make or may not work for you, and get a second opinion so that they can try you on the other stuff out there aside from Prevacid, and see if they can come up with a solution.

I'd ask for a second opinion, but there is still a very real possibility that it is GERD (acid build up) but that Prevacid was simply not effective for you. There are an assortment of meds out there, both OTC and prescription strength that you can try to see if they are effective. In the meantime, try to do the following, raise the head of your bed 6 inches, that's the recommended height if it's GERD, also when you get the pain get up, don't lie down or prop yourself up it will make it worse, get up walk around, go make yourself some chamomile tea, mint tea or ginger tea, all are wonderful herbal remedies that work well for mild GERD symptoms. And, finally, smoking, if it is GERD, probably is making it worse. Try to stop smoking a couple of hours before bedtime, ditto with drinking or eating anything, especially anything with high concentrations of acid, i.e., oranges, tomatos, alcohol, etc.
Also, it could be costochondritis, have you had the flu recently and/or really bad coughing? Costochondritis, you can google, could definitely cause this sort of thing.
Get yourself that second opinion in the event it's not GERD, but you can try the above in the meantime. I hope it helps...

You need to stop walking till they heal otherwise you're going to risk greater injury. I get these sometimes too, especially when I run, and when it gets to the point where it's excruciating, I have to stop the running for a few weeks, and do yoga instead, or something else that is not hard impact. I know it sucks, but if you don't stop and give it a chance to heal it will only get progressively worse, and you don't want to risk a permanent injury, which is entirely possible. Also, use alternating moist heat and ice packs.
Good for you on the marathon thing though...

^^^I agree except for the writing thing, given that I think that at times people tend to go into what I call journaling mode or stream of consciousness writing mode when they do these things and technically speaking trying to be grammatically correct in either is close to impossible, and would detract from the whole point of the exercise.
Now, blatant misspellings, that drives me nuts, and anything that is slangish, gangsterish, or hoodlumish, i.e., holla, da, beeatch, and a couple of others that escape me at the moment, are enough to make my eyes bleed. To me that smacks of trying to hard, unless you are course, 14-years-old and fancy yourself to be a hood, a gangster, or a gangsterette, but in any other case and above that age group, when you try that hard, you're five minutes away from being five minutes ago, if you get my drift.

Digital picture frame, one of the larger ones, would be a great gift, and maybe a scrap book, to put in it anything in the way of mementos that he brought home with him.

When did Curvy begin to mean Obese?

"I gained a few more pounds this week, so yay me!"
YAY YOU!! You go girlie, keep it up you'll get back up to a healthy place, make sure you're exercising to build up muscle mass as well as to keep the endorphins making you feel good...
On another note, I'm so sorry about you're mom, but letting yourself go to crap is only going to make you feel worse, and does nothing to the memory of her, given I'm sure you guys were close & had a good relationship. Be kind to yourself, & take care of yourself, the way mom would want you to...

^^^ I think it's more than a lucky few, I know quite a few people who have met and married their online relationship... as a matter of fact, one more friend of the family was married yesterday to a man she met online... so it can happen, and I think these days, it's probably a lot more common, given people's schedules.

If anyone on here has the recipe for pulled beef, that is made with a can of coke amongst other things, please email it to me. I vaguely remember hearing about this at some point, and have never been able to find the actual exact recipe.

""Eenk on 4/19/2009 329 PM: Ameera, you are fat and unattractive.""
Wow, once again someone proving without a shadow of doubt that they have serious issues with women in general. Only someone who has the comprehensive mentality of a 10 year old, prepubescent grade-schooler, would post something like this about someone. Anyone beyond that age is expressing some deep seeded issues that span all kinds of things... sad... tsk.
