Would you reject someone because of something in their profile?
Posted:

Women are without a doubt, much more pickier than Men are.
Of course this was said by a man. I would say just the opposite.
But to answer the original question, whether I would reject somebody based on something in their profile - I did and I would do it again. Just yesterday, I was contacted by a guy whose interests are Fishing - Camping - Golfing (there was nothing else - just those three).
I hate all three. I cannot stand people who kill animals for fun; although I am not a high maintenance gal sleeping in a tent does not really interest me and golfing is the most boring thing on earth. So why would we have in common?

People who have changed
Posted:
9/4/2009 6:16:38 AM
^^ What Juli said.
I wouldn't consider it shallow. We all have our own preferences. I, too, lost a lot of weight but I also changed my lifestyle, and I don't want to go back to the old ways. I gained a lot of weight while with a boyfriend who liked to eat all the bad stuff. Pizza, burgers, fries, dessert each night - and I happily tagged along (and so did the pounds). I would worry that being with such a person again would sway me in the wrong direction. I am quite happy eating lean and clean, but it is hard when you sit opposite to someone who is having a mountain of french fries in front of him. Will power has its limits.
I am a tall gal (who likes to wear heels) and I am interested in tall guys, because I like my partner to be at least 4" taller than me. Am I shallow?

she does not like to do anything new or fun
Maybe the 'new' things you are suggesting she already tried in the past and doesn't like them and/or knows they don't work for her. You did not elaborate so it's hard to determine based on such vague description. And the 'fun' stuff - maybe it's fun for you but not fun for her - did you EVER try to think of this from this angle? (or course not, and neither did any of male respondents as far as I can see). If fun stuff means handcuffs and S&M or something similar to you, I can't blame her for not being interested. Only because her taste differs from yours it does not necessarily mean she would be 'boring' to somebody else. Different strokes for different folks.

Why all the Dogs?
Posted:

I am not fond of lots of dog pictures either (and I do have dogs myself) but hey, given the choice, I would rather see a picture of a dog than that of guy triumphantly holding a dead fish. That's a lot worse than pictures of dogs. So, back at you, OP - what's up with THAT?

includes fresh apples and pure honey, (figured the complex carbs would help with energy)
Actually both apples and honey are simple carbs, not complex. I would suggest you add more protein ... I agree with HotMess ... I eat lots of turkey, chicken breast, salmon and tilapia, and also canned tuna (fortunately I like fish).
Be careful with your cereal ... it is usually loaded with sugar. When I eatmeal, I mix it some protein powder. It adds sweetness and at the same it add quite some protein. Stay away from sugar/art. sweetener as much as you can. I know - it's not always easy.

Do you discriminate based on age?
Posted:
8/14/2009 3:28:38 PM
Why would it be discrimination? I call it personal preference.
Seriously, I would prefer my partner to be within a certain age range and I don't find it discriminatory. Then everything else would be a discrimination. Do you prefer the athletic type? Then you are discriminating against the chubby ones. The same with smokers, people of certain height, hair colour, or even people outside of a comfortable distance etc.

4forumonly,
I am not sure what you refer to when you say "except the only 10 minutes every day BS". Nowhere in P90X it is suggested that 10 minutes a day would suffice - quite the contrary - Tony pushes people to persist as long as they can, perhaps with short breaks if necessary but to keep going.

I agree with the suggestion re lunges. By the way, I think that Oxygen has a special issue out right now that is dedicated to glutes. Or, if you go to their website (www.oxygenmag.com) and contact them, I am sure you can purchase it. It is packed with butt-targeting exercises.

Sex with the lights off?
Posted:

You're 25 so if you are dating younger or of same age, it wouldn't surprise me that insist on complete darkness. I was pretty much the same when I was their age, I didn't insist on complete darkness but the darker the better. Often it takes time for a woman to become confident and comfortable in her own body (regardless how perfect or less-than-perfect it is).
You are entitled to your own preferences but methinks that, judging by your attitude both on #1 and #2, you will do them a huge favour if you let them go. I am sure they can find a better partner.

protein bars
Posted:
8/6/2009 6:07:15 PM
I think it's good to have a few for "emergencies". I usually have some at work (sometimes I am more hungry than usual or if I have a really persistent craving for something sweet, I think I am better off with 1/2 of a protein bar than say, something from the vending machine).
But I think that one can do better than the example quoted by OP. I buy Low Carb Bars, the one that I like is Creme Caramel. 60 g serving: 230 cals, 25 g protein, 22 g carbs, 1 g sugar. First three ingredients: Soy protein isolate, milk protein isolate, whey protein concentrate. (but it goes steeply downhill from there on). :-)

Is sexual banter complimentary?
Posted:

I think a lot depends on whether "she is into you" or not. If I don't like someone, such a comment can meet with cold silence from me or a look that says everything. If I do like him I will mostly smile and appreciate the comment (again, assuming it is nothing over the top etc.).

Would you reject someone because of something in their profile?
Posted:
8/4/2009 5:06:33 PM
Of course I would. I am not sure though if I see it as a rejection. But there are things that I would avoid, smoking for example. Frequent drinking as well. Also, when I see in a profile that a guy basically spends winters watching hockey and summers camping - why bother? those are just examples. Everybody has personal preferences. Some men prefer slim women, some men prefer overweight women. IMHO, it's the same like hockey and smoking for me - I prefer something else so I move on.

I totally agree with the previous replies. You will have to think about who are you choosing to contact and what attracts you to them. Maybe you will find out where you are making a mistake.
Maybe you need to communicate with the girl a while, to find out more about her, before you decide to go out with her?

Good for you, OP, to have had an epiphany but my opinion reminds unchanged. I truly hate the fishing pics and the bikes do nothing for me either. But, in a way, they make it easier for me. I will pass right over. I have no intentions of going on day trip on a motorbike (I know of better ways to spend my weekends) or gutting the said dead fish.

BMI vs. weight
Posted:
8/3/2009 10:18:33 AM
Ok, how did you determine that you lost 14% of body fat? What I mean is did you base on a calculation or did you get tested by one of those impedance-based devices, calipers or did you do the dunk test in a pool?
Typically, I get a printout that indicates not only the body fat percentage but also lean body mass, total body water, BMR, and a number of things. So my question is, did you increase your lean body mass? You did not mention what type of exercises you are doing (lift weights?) so if your lean body mass went so much up then you must have a fantastic job. But it all depends on other factors.

I want to start running first thing in the morning.....should I eat something before running?
Posted:
8/3/2009 5:11:02 AM
I used to run regularly for about a year, before plantar fasciitis put an end to it. I would get up at 5:30 am to be able to run for an hour+ (treadmill in the basement). I find that it is very personal. I cannot eat anything before running. Other people find that must have a light snack of carbs. I would have to wait at least 30 minutes, even after a light snack, before I would be able to run ... it was hard enough to get up at 5:30 as it was.
So do what suits you best.

I love Arnica, but I prefer the gel. I do have a vial of Arnica pellets (recommended by my naturopath) to take when my plantar fasciitis becomes aggravated. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I find the pellets to be doing me much good (at least not in terms of the PF). I do use the gel if I overdo my workouts and my muscles are sore (usually my traps).

What are the best exercises to bulk up my triceps?
Posted:
8/1/2009 5:45:13 AM
Anyway, one of the best *I* have found is bracing yourself on the edge of a bench/chair, hand on both sides of yourself, hanging your butt down and balancing on your hands, then raising your own body weight. Kind of like back words push ups that work your tri's. I am sure there is a specific name for this exercise, I just don't know it.
Dragonfly, those are called dips.

Long fingernails
Posted:

I have been blessed with decently shaped, strong nails and I wear them at fingertip length. Always with nude nai lpolish on my fingers and dark bright colour on my toes. The best nail polish is OPI, as I am sure everybody knows.
I have never had fake nails because I hate fake everything. I think it looks very silly when women who do not have nicely shaped nails wear those awfully long square-shaped tips glued on. Yikes!
Nails are extremely important to me and it is one of the first thing I look at on a man.

Physical traits in a man that are not attractive to females......
Posted:
7/27/2009 3:53:00 PM
I work outside and live in a dry climate. I go through tubs of Shea butter a year trying to keep my hands and skin moist to no avail. We all can't be blessed with a cushy office job and live in a nice humid environment.
And that's perfectly understandable. BTW, I sometimes have a problem with dry skin in winter and the ONLY thing that works for me Coconut Body Butter from the Body Shop. A bit pricey but I tried every single moisturizer on the market and nothing was helping until I found the Coconut Body Butter.
Sorry ladies for the brief detour. We can now return the originally schedulled programming.

An Exercise Regimen to Reduce One's Body Fat Percentage?
Posted:
7/27/2009 3:26:07 PM
one2env,
are those the weights you are using or it your suggestion for the OP? Some of them are "women" numbers (e.g. the hammer curls) others are not (e.g. lat pull downs - although you didnt mention if you meant wide grip or narrow grip? that would make a lot of difference).
Also, the OP has obviously no experience with this so 25 push ups? I don't think so. Not that I want to underestimate her but anybody in her situation would be fortunate to crank out 10 pushups on the knees.
Just a thought.

LMFAO!! THIS from a species that keeps the hair dye business operating...
Hypocrisy thy name is woman.
Yes, us women dye our hair (but let's not go into reasons why ... that would an entirely different discussion) but we are WOMEN. I, personally, don't like dyed hair on men or worse yet, highlights. That would make me run away screaming. I like masculine men, not effeminate ones.
Somebody mentioned limp-wristing. Ditto. That would make me question his sexual orientation.
I also dislike long nails, chewed up nails, etc. Hair poking out of various orifices.
And back hair!!!

Man there is no way in hell you can call P90x a joke!
I completely agree with the above. I think it is a great program that conditions the entire body. It's not for everyone - some people think working out at home is not doable because there is no motivation, others prefer the gym for a number of other reasons ... it is a personal choice like anything else. I miss the gym, I have to admit that, but I am going 2x a week to two different classes that I really like (and to get a little break from P90X). If it wasn't for the classes I could have suspended my membership but I don't really want to.

But I have to say that if I don't want to be with someone I would prefer to be on the computer (or at the gym) than in his company. Don't take it personally - I am just saying what my preference would be. Hopefully you will have better luck the next time.

I did it once, out of curiosity. And I found out that all the women in my area, of a comparable age range (I don't recall what search criteria I used, this was like 2 months ago) are either 5'8" or 5'9". So I concluded that nothing has changed and guys are still into petite women (I mean short, not petite as in body type). I haven't looked since.

So I am logged on this morning, reading emails etc. when I get an email from a PoF guy (whom I have not corresponded with before). I look at his profile first and I know right away that I am not interested for a multitude of reasons. So I open his email, which is quite long (and full of spelling mistakes) and he is telling me lots of things about himself and even giving me his Hotmail addy saying he would like to chat on MSN etc.
I write a polite "Thank you, but no" answer and when I hit the Send button I find out I have already been BLOCKED by this user. WTF? Why write to me in the first place? Or maybe it's just his new game.

OP, I am getting to your thread rather late and I haven't read all the replies but I just wanted to say that I see nothing wrong with contacting men. This is 2009, not the Victorian era.
And by the way, just a comment - don't it personally - but I have a huge aversion to snakes and if I saw a guy's picture with a snake wrapped around him, I wouldn't contact him even if he looked like George Clooney. If I find anything arrogant, then it's your reply. Why is it arrogant when a non-smoker rejects a smoker (based on smoking)? How is it different from deciding not to reply to somebody who contacts you because you don't like her physical appearance? How do you know that you are not rejecting of the 'bloody fantastic intelligent people'?

Not too long ago, I met somebody and it was a classic case of your category #2 ( They talk without stopping about themselves, their lives, their travels, their political viewpoint, what they do for a living, talk about the book they are writing, on and on and on without letting me say one word.)
Except that I could not care about him letting me say one word - my mind was very busy trying to figure out how to end it as quickly as possible and leave.

I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves
Posted:
7/19/2009 3:54:57 PM
I have hardly any, probalby the only one would be people who don't wipe off equipment after they are done with it.
Otherwise, I cannot say enough good stuff about my gym - I love the place. The change rooms are very clean, so are the showers, there are ALWAYS three boquets of flowers in the ladies' change room (haven't been to men's so I can't say LOL), even in the dead of winter. Always plenty of kleenexes, even Q-tips and cotton puffs, hair dryers. I don't need to bring my own towel (unless I shower after a workout) as there's a stack of handtowels to be used to wipe off the equipment or to use as your own towel during your workout. Very friendly staff. Did I say I absolutely LOVE the place?
Sometimes I feel like I live on another planet because people at my gym don't talk on cell phones, don't hog equipment, don't stare (at least I don't know - when I am working out I try to focus on my own form and I pay little attention to what's going on around me). The grunters don't bother me; hell, if I could bench 200 lbs I would probably grunt too.

I think it varies from person to person. If man's hair has its original colour but the facial hair is grey(ish) it may make him look older but this is a generalization. Personally, I like facial hair. No such much a mustache .... I prefer a beard or a nice goatee but it must be neatly trimmed. Overgrown facial hair is a major turn off.

What is the wierdest date you've ever had?

Mine was only mildly weird, more funny than weird.
This guy kept messaging me and I really wasn't interested as he was a lot older than me ... I just wasn't getting the vibe from his emails but he kept begging to meet him for coffee. He was quite funny about it, actually, he was saying stuff like "You can date other guys but please at least meet me for coffee" etc. so I agreed.
We decided to meet at a coffe place [for Canucks - at William's] and I made it clear that I would be getting there after my workout at the gym. I arrive, order my coffee, he shows up, gets his coffee, we sit down and talk for about 15-20 minutes. Since I was after a quite vigorous weight lifting session, I started to get hungry really fast ... I simply had to eat. So I interrupted him and said I am going to get something to eat at which point he started to get all flustered saying "but we agreed to meet for coffee only".
I really didn't understand what the problem was since this is a place where you go to the counter and pay and they will bring it out for you .... so it's not like I am pumping him for a meal ... anyway, I did go, ordered my sandwich, paid, returned to the table and when the staff brought my sandwich this dude got upset again saying he doesn't do any food when meeting people that it was just a coffee date bla bla bla ... and he collected his stuff and left.
Which was perfectly all right with me because I found him quite boring anyway and at least I could finish my meal at peace. But he acted like I committed a crime by eating instead of having coffee only. Weirdo.

I feel the same way as the OP, perhaps with the exception of "Don't bother messaging me if". For example, if somebody says "Don't bother messaging me if you are a smoker" as I totally get that. However, I agree that there is a more polite way to get the message across.

It hasn't happened to me but if I really liked his profile, I probably would. One never knows. It could lead to a nice email friendship.

After a first date, is it okay to email rather than call?

It would not bother me that much .... especially if I was interested in seeing him again as well.
But calling is more personal; however, it depends on circumstances. What if, for example, each person returns home after the first date, it's quite late, and he sends an email saying he really enjoyed the evening and could we please see other again? Nothing wrong with that but then perhaps an additional call the next day would be nice.
