Should men and women live together?
Posted: 11/22/2009 3:47:08 PM
Personally, for me, I'm liking my single life, with only my own rules, and if and when someone comes into it, it'll be a very long time before we live together. Although I do feel that the two people, whether room mates or a couple, need to have their own space and interests. If a couple, they also need to share interests, and they must try new things to keep the relationship alive.

Why am I always attracted to Scorpios?
Posted: 9/11/2009 9:43:09 PM
I have to say that I also choose Scorpio's a lot when clicking profiles. More than 90% of the time, the guy's profile that I'm attracted to happens to be the same sign as me.

I am a scorpio, proud of being a Scorpio, and I do have a lot of the traits of Scorpio women.

I lived with a fellow Scorpio for 10 yrs... we even shared the same birthdate, although he was older. There was an amazing love life, but there was just as much, if not more, trouble in the relationship. Not really sure if I'd go there again... 2 scorpio's together can be absolutely astounding, but one of you has to stop being so darn stubborn.

Msg 4, your post on page 1.. I had a mug with that saying on it a long time ago..
SCORPIO (Oct22-Nov22)
You are the worst of the lot. You are shrewd in business and cannot be trusted. You shall achieve the pinnacle of success because of your total lack of ethics. You are the perfect son-of-a-b.itch. Most Scorpios end up getting murdered.

Computer Gurus?
Posted: 9/11/2009 9:34:03 PM
There was a BAD windows update last week. It killed my desktop and I'm forced to use my laptop which is dogggggg slow.
I can't even go back a level with the settings either, and until I pull off all my files off the desktop hard drives, I can't even reload the operating system. I am running Vista, but they probably sent out the same bad update with XP.

Good Luck Steno

I will be attending my first Burlesque type of show this Sunday here in Victoria. A local strip joint is doing a fundraiser for someone afflicted with a blood disease. At least then, I'll be able to offer an opinion on this subject.

Unfortunately, only the kids in grades 6 and 9 get it for free, sponsored by MSP, and it wasn't offered when she was in Grade 9.
I will be paying for it for my daughter. She has a couple of older friends who've been diagnosed with cervical cancer, and will be undergoing surgery very soon.

I'm not a gym rat, nor am I a couch slug either.
I have some weight equipment getting dusty, and the kids and I are getting a space ready to put it so that it can get some use.
Honestly though, I'd rather go for a long walk somewhere, preferably with others. The daily walks with the dog count a bit, but there are a lot of stops involved, so that doesn't really up the cardio factor until she's done all her business.
I must say though between walking the dog, and the sassy dance classes I took last fall/winter has helped me shed close to 35 lbs in a year.

okay, okay, with both Debra and Dognstuff hounding me to ride, I'll dust the bike off. I'll be wobbly though, and not from the pops either.. lol

The Monkey Tree also has lots of parking for anyone coming in from out of town. The Motor Vehicle Branch is located there and if we do a Saturday or Sunday, they'll be closed. And B, bring your cell... I'll be needing the assistance of a couple of hot male paramedics before Matticks farm.

Please don't pick the 19th.. I've got my high school reunion that weekend.

What's wrong with looking, thinking, and acting your age?
Posted: 8/3/2009 1:06:24 PM
Does anyone really know how they are supposed to feel at a certain age?

I'm 47, and I don't think I'm doing anything different from what my parents were doing when they were 47. Dad was working alongside the contractors, building our house on the sunshine coast, playing golf, curling and a whole host of other things besides working a full time job.

Me, I'm out in the yard, digging garden plots, doing some landscaping, playing golf, hiking, working on renovations to my house, raising kids and working a full time job.

Each decade has had it's ups and downs. I'd hate to be a teenager again. I live through their angst on a daily basis thanks to my daughter and her friends. I do know this though, as I am getting older, and have more free time now that the kids are older, I am far more active and am willing to try something new. You never know if there is some sport or activity that you'll find enjoyable if you don't try it. Only thing that would be better is to have someone to do some of them with.

And Happy Birthday WWR. Have a great day.

Who Loves Thunder storms?
Posted: 7/26/2009 9:16:25 AM
Last nights storm was awesome. The roar of the thunder, the sound of the rain...the amazing colours in the sky and the way the sunset glowed on the homes in my neigbourhood. I didn't see any lightning, which would be a good thing as everything here is tinder dry, just like the rest of our beautiful province. I can't remember the last time we had a good thunderstorm here on the lower island.

Lulu's yoga pants are not tight, at least mine aren't, and in fact look better on a lot people than jeans do. They are far more comfortable than pretty much anything else out there, and dress up or dress down just as well as jeans do. Just don't wear the granny panties with them.. they do not forgive pantylines. lol

what i got in my mail today
Posted: 7/17/2009 3:47:42 PM
Recently, in large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tanned woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said:

"THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE?"

A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They have an active sex life; they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia. Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don’t exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? They don’t have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them not to mention how could they have sex? Therefore they don’t have kids either. Not to mention who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me; I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver and a coffee with my friends. With time we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren’t heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, "Good gosh, look how smart I am."

On the Events page for BC, plus it should also be in the events section under your inbox, there is a Cowichan rafting and camping party next weekend. It should be a ton of fun. I can't make it, but our camping trip the other weekend was great fun.

The lunacy of lawns
Posted: 6/14/2009 8:22:54 PM
<----- just spent the day starting to dig up one area of lawn to turn into a garden and path.
I share the front lawn with my neighbour and we take turns with the mowing duties, until July/August, when Mother Nature, and lack of rainwater, takes over and has turned it brown. The back is a work in progress and hopefully within the next 2 years I'll have no lawn at all, just gardens, both flower and veggie. No pesticides are ever knowingly used anywhere on the property, but they might get blown over in the wind from others.
And yes, vinegar works great on the dandelions, but they don't work on the buttercups.. anyone know what works on those?

Butt Flicking !! ~~~~ Non-Sexual
Posted: 6/9/2009 8:43:36 PM
I'm a smoker, but don't smoke in my vehicle. My last 3 vehicles haven't had ashtrays anyways.
As for the street.. yes, they are littered with butts. We are not allowed to smoke at restaurants or bars, or in our office spaces, where there would have been an ashtray to use, so we're forced to go to the street. There rarely are any ashtrays left out for us 2nd class citizens to use, nor a garbage can located near to where you are walking when it's time to butt out, and if you think I'm going to step on my cigarette butt and then pick it up off the sidewalk, you've got to be kidding... do you know what is on those sidewalks??? ewwwwwwwwwww... worse than a smelly butt.
And for those who do smoke in their vehicles... hit the dollar store.. for less than a buck you can get an ashtray for your car.

# 3 Camping Trip in Victoria Area for June 26-28th
Posted: 6/9/2009 8:13:31 PM
What about Bamberton...Provincial campground approx. a half hour north of Victoria. I don't think they've got a group campsite, but there are lots of sites. Close to Mill Bay, so when you run out of ice and beer, it's a quick trip in for supplies.

There is also the 2 campsites on the Malahat.. Malahat Mountain??? and the KOA.

Where is the best fishing?
Posted: 6/9/2009 8:08:59 PM
I have to agree with MN. The island is sorely lacking tasty morsels of the sea..

Better fishing on the mainland and the interior, for sure... maybe it's because there is more fresh water... or is it the beer brewed there ???

new friends out west
Posted: 6/7/2009 10:58:16 PM
Get involved with volunteer activities and join some sporting or other activities at the local rec centre. Head to the beach too. There is always a volleyball game or something happening that you can try and get involved with. You're in N. Van, there is tons to do there. Join a hiking club... join the local fishies for one of their grouse grind hikes. Keep an eye on the events page for upcoming activities. Over here in Victoria, most of the activities are geared to the over 40 crowd, but I don't know what the age range is for the Vancouver events. People are so wrapped up in their own lives that it does make it hard to meet new people, but it can be done. Just persevere, chin up, smile on your face, bring out that east coast charm and say hi to people while you're waiting in line at Starbucks.

Do you think people are too picky on pof
Posted: 5/10/2009 1:19:47 PM
I dont' care who you are, but everyone is picky, whether it be here on POF or out in the real world.
Unfortunately, in this medium, it's too easy to judge people by either looking at a lousy blurry picture, or no picture. There is very little to go on by reading someone's profile. Some of us don't really know what to say to try and spark some interest.
How can you actually expect to figure out if he/she is the one for you, if you, the browser of the profile, doesn't in fact initiate contact. Or, when contact has been initiated, the receiver ignores it.
The only way 2 people will ever know they are "right" for each other, and if there really is any chemistry is by seeing each other in person and talking to one another. To do that, you have to meet somewhere, and here is as good a place as any, but don't leave this place as the only option. Even if you haven't found that "spark", you never know, you just might have found yourself a really great friend in the end. Meeting people and even just having a coffee, or going to a movie, beats sitting around on Saturday night.

$ 50 billion wasted of wrong diets
Posted: 2/27/2009 5:41:19 PM
I think we should all pitch in with our various experiences with exercise, diet and weight loss, write our own book, and rake in some of these billions...

It really is just sensible eating, getting enough rest and proper exercise. Shed the pounds slowly, and they will stay off, as long as you keep up with some form of exercise.

Dude, that's your car?
Posted: 1/25/2009 11:02:28 AM
I drive the mini-van.. but I'm sick to death of being called the "soccer mom", even though I am one. I am in the market for another vehicle, as this one is leased and my kid will be driving shortly. I've been test driving cars, SUV's and trucks, and after driving a van for so long, I find it's really hard to get in and out of a car that sits on the ground, so it looks like I'm steering towards the truck with a crew cab or a SUV. Sure, I know those guzzle more gas, but I also am looking towards comfortably getting in and out of the thing, having 4 doors so that passengers can get in and out easier, and room for packing things and lots of kids around.

Do you Swiffer?
Posted: 1/24/2009 10:29:05 PM
Nothing beats the old scrub brush and hot soapy water and a good rinse on the lino, IMO, however I do admit to using the swiffer for the quick cleanup jobs.
For the laminate, I've got a re-usable cloth, made for laminate nd hardwood, that can be stuck onto a swiffer type mop head, that I use to sweep first, then wash the floor with. It cleans up really nicely in the laundry too, so there is nothing going into the landfills.

Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFL) may be a poor choice for lighting
Posted: 1/24/2009 10:13:56 PM
Even LED's have their problems. I had 2 sets of outdoor xmas lights where half the strand died, and they are only a couple of years old. You can't replace the led bulb in these sets of lights. The old outdoor incandescent Christmas strands were so much easier to deal with. A bulb burnt out.. you replaced that one bulb. Then the mini lights started to be manufactured, and if one burnt out, and if you were lucky to have the right type of strand, you could replace the one bulb. If you got the other type.. you had to either use a tester, or test each individual bulb on a working strand of lights.
I know it takes more electrical energy to power incandescents, but they take less human energy to purchase, replace and fix. :)

Vegetables
Posted: 1/24/2009 8:33:05 PM
Getting veggies from the "green grocers", or farmers markets, I find are the best way to buy them, unless of course you have your own garden. They always seem fresher, and are quite a bit less expensive than at the grocery store.
Everyone above is right.. it's how we "had to eat" our veggies which really has probably made a lot of people avoid them now.
Still, I like mostm but there are some that just won't enter my house.. parsnips and eggplant for example. I hated them as a kid, and still won't eat them to this day.
My kids are complete opposites too.. one won't eat most of them cooked, and could live on salads, and the other won't eat any of them raw... and won't even accept a piece of lettuce on a sandwich or a burger.

Gung Hay Fat Choy!
Posted: 1/21/2009 9:48:26 PM
So, as of Monday, it will be the year of the Ox, and as I'm a stubborn Scorpio/Metal Ox, I thought I'd share from WesternRose's website our Chinese horoscope.

The Ox can do well this year through steady progress. There may be a number of experiences that will provide great joy for the Ox. One area in particular is your personal life. You may see an addition to the family. You will be surrounded by those who care. Look for the early summer months to attend many social occasions, providing many new faces in your social circle. Be open to the advice of others, as you tend to keep your issues to yourself. Overall, your own year can be one that you will look back on with pride and a genuine sense of achievement.

Gung Hay Fat Choy everyone.
