What is this Twain 5 you speak of ?

I know of Mark Twain but I don't get the Irish connection..

You're very welcome to insult me if you like

Pronounced tain I think. Cooley's Cattle Raid

Trouble is, I agree with most you say. But believe me, I shall find something.

introduction
Posted: 12/4/2008 4:28:52 PM
Greetings all, I just found the Ireland forum, and am glad I did. Before I post much, I want to introduce myself. I am a 62 y/o male, married, and just looking to make friends, or in some of the forum threads, just piss people off. I can be sarcastic, but do not always pick up on the sarcasm here, same language, usually, but different words sometimes.
My connections with Ireland: a mountain in Ireland bears my surname. An Irish folk song has my surname in the title. Twain 5 mentions my surname, and in the Book of Leinster, a name is very close in spelling to mine.
I hope to gather more knowledge about Ireland, so I will be asking questions in the future. I have enjoyed reading the posts. There are some delightful people on here. If I step on anyone's toes, except for sarcasm of course, please let me know. I can be insulting, but, if this makes any sense, I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Thank you.

I hope anyone is able to post in this Forum...how many can claim Irish roots; virtually everyone
si-denada I believe I can claim Irish roots, and proudly so. There is a mountain in Ireland with my surname. There is a folksong with my surname in the title. My surname is mentioned in twain 5. And in the Book of Leinster, I found a name extremely close in spelling to my own. Very proud.

Which foreign country has most beautiful women/men?
Posted: 12/4/2008 11:09:57 AM
Personally, I am amazed at the beauty of the ladies in the group Celtic Woman. These ladies were personally made beautiful by God. And their voices. Heavenly. And the Isle of Innisfree. WOW
But some of the ladies in the former Republic of South Viet Nam, with their Asian influences, and the French influences, with some others thrown in, beauty beyond belief.

Who wants to live forever?
Posted: 12/1/2008 2:20:25 PM
Things I have witnessed: steam locomotives to magnetically powered trains. Horses to no till farming. Coal burning furnaces to solar power. Propeller driven planes to the space shuttle. Lasers. Computers. Heart and face transplants. I have small ideas of the next hundred years, but I would love to see all the new developments and inventions.

AARP: To join or not to join?
Posted: 11/23/2008 5:40:08 PM
RDtoo. I have my auto and home insurance through Ohio Mutual. I seem to have the hobby of collecting speeding tickets, with the occassional accident. Their rates are lower than anything I can get from AARP. I also do not like their politics. I no longer get mail from AARP. I used to write "REFUSED" and have them pay the return postage. Sometimes I would cram the return envelope full of papers and send it back. Took a while, but I no longer get propaganda from them. The same works for other nuisance companies too. Sorry you are so bitter, but I do understand.

Strange and peculiar true animal stories
Posted: 11/23/2008 1:41:36 PM
My dad always had fox hounds. After running them one night, two of them did not come back. We hunted high and low for a couple of days with no luck. I was six or seven at the time. We drove to a house in Gnadenhutten, but dad would not let me go in with him. He came out, and we drove a while, stopped, and walked a little ways down a trail. There the dogs were. An old lady lived in that house, and she was a fortune teller. I probably wouldn't believe it either, but I was there.

What song would you dedicate to your ex?
Posted: 11/23/2008 10:12:31 AM
THANK GOD AND GREYHOUND
(Larry Kingston / Earl Nix)

Roy Clark

Also recorded by : Ray Pillow.

I've made a small fortune, and you've squandered it all.
You've shamed me till I feel about one inch tall.
But I thought I loved you, and I hoped you would change,
so I gritted my teeth and didn't complain.

Now you've come to me with a simple goodbye.
You tell me you're leaving, but you won't tell me why.
We're here at the station and you're getting on.
And all I can think of is.........

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone!

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone!
I didn't know how much longer I could go on,
watching you take the respect out of me,
watching you make a total wreck out of me.
That big diesel motor is a playing my song.

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone!

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone!
That load on my mind got lighter when you got on.
That shiney old bus is a beautiful sight,
with the black smoke rolling up around the tail lights.
It may sound kinda cruel, but I've been silent too long:

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone!

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone!

Early retirement: curse or blessing?
Posted: 11/22/2008 7:44:58 PM
I was able to, fortunately, retire at 54. Love it. I ride a lot more. Have gotten back to tent camping, sold my camper earlier this year, and have lots of time to study Mother Nature. Luckily, my wife does not mind. She still has six years before she can retire, and that sucks. We have kids in Wyoming and Idaho we love to visit. Our youngest is still in college. OH - IO State. Life is good.

Men over 45 and facial hair
Posted: 11/22/2008 7:14:46 PM
I was the model for the Grizzly Adams character. And the ZZTops. My wife trims my beard every year or two. My braid still goes halfway down my back. I still ride my '81 wing. The wind blows the critters out of my beard. It collects some bugs while riding, but some of them taste pretty good. And I do not care if you ladies like my beard or not. I am not looking to hook up with anyone. Wouldn't matter about my hairy head anyway.

stupid things that scare you
Posted: 11/21/2008 12:05:41 PM
I am terrified of daddy-long-legs . When I was a child I was locked in a shed. I saw what I thought was a wig hanging down and I hit it with a broom. It was hundreds of those long legs hanging from one another. They fell on me. It was horrible. My brain tells me they are harmless but when I see one I tremble

Actually they are very poisonous, enough so they can kill a person. The only thing that saves us is that their mouths are too timy to bite us.

My daughter brought back a coffee cup, a T-shirt, and some vegimite for me. I still drink from the cup, still wear the shirt. As for the vegimite, I threw it out one day, and the next day there were three dead buzzards next to it.

Carrying Concealed Weapons (CCW)
Posted: 5/6/2007 7:02:11 PM
To earn a CCW permit in Ohio, you have to meet certain legal criteria, attend 10 hours of class, and 2 hours on the range. Not real easy, but very doable. I am trying to get Castle Doctrine introduced into the Ohio legislature, but no luck yet.
I feel sorry for the kid, but at least he is alive, and can make a new start. How many months before those two holligans killed someone in a holdup? He did society a favor.

ask a handyman
Posted: 4/1/2007 6:37:45 AM
Sometimes the bottom outlet is controlled by a wall switch. Handy for turning on a lamp before entering the room.

A humorous caution to diyers. I have an over-educated brother-in-law, two masters and I don't know what else. I had been home about five minutes one day and received a call from him, he said he had a water leak. Went over. Geesh. He tried to replace his kitchen fawcet and thought that when the water was turned off at the sink, it was off period. He disconnected the water line beneath the sink. No shutoffs beneath the sink. This had happened some three hours before, and his basement was a mess. I traced the water line and found a nearly frozen shutoff valve.
If you do not know what you are doing, or are not so inclined, seek advice. Remember, electricity loves to go to ground. My first lesson with that was when I was about six y/o and peed on an electric fence. Dad and his friend thought that was hilarious. I still think that is why it is so short.

Tattoos: Is there discrimination?
Posted: 2/18/2007 6:34:33 AM
I am amazed by the stupidity and narrow mindedness exhibited by some of you intelligent, educated people. Are you the same ones who think bikers are terrible? Do you look away when you see someone in a wheel chair? Would you turn away from a leper who needed help? And do not say I am comparing apples and oranges. It all has to do with your mental makeup. Alll of this hate and discontent over a tattoo? Sad.

Thanks for saving me a lot of keystrokes Repo Man. Great post. People who get tattoos should be intelligent enough to know that they may cause adverse reactions. If they get tattoos, don't **** about the repercusions. I enjoy looking at them unless some guy has his****tattoed on his nose, the nose is probaly too big anyway. I do not like obscenity tattoos. I am rather conservative in my political leanings and would hate to see someone have an Al Gore tattoo. I got one last year and it sure was less painful that in '65, and yes, I will get more.

Are you one of those people who think the holocaust never happened? :O
Or are you referring to something else?
Anyway, what would you prefer to be called? "One of those people who hate homosexuals" just takes too long to say.

smith2267: No, I am not a homophobe. I do not hate anyone. There are those peoples and people I do not like, but there is no one I hate. Just not made that way. Without looking at my previous post, I believe I said I do approve of their lifestyle. And I do not care what I am called. I have tolerated posterior orifices all my life, and they do not bother me at all.
