Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud
Posted: 11/20/2005 9:38:36 AM | Now I am beginning to wonder about something. I chatted with a guy from Yahoo for a while. He said he was from New York but was in Africa for his work. He spent alot of time in Africa. Well he sent me flowers for my birthday and then the next day asked me for bank account info so one of his "clients" could pay him. Said he couldn't access the money in his own account from Africa. After I mentioned that I knew about the Nigerian scams, I never heard from him again. I turned him and all info he ever gave me over to the FBI for investigation.
Then I started chatting with a guy that contacted ME through Match. On his profile, it said he was divorced and that he liked a career in helping people with disabilities. He suppposedly made $100,000 to $150,000 a year. But when we started IM'ing each other, he said he was widowed. His career was self-employed in marketing and he was in Africa right at the moment. He wanted to meet me so badly that he asked me to front him some money until he got back to the states and would reimburse me. Of course I said no way. But he was ready to "pack up all his things in Massachusettes" and move close to me to be married to me soon. All this without even meeting me. Maybe this guy took ownership of the account that I saw and liked on Match??? The picture showed a white guy, but in talking to him on the phone (from Africa no less), he sounded like a foreigner. I reported that one to Match.com but only received an automated reply that they had received my complaint and were aware of the allegations.
I am a very distrusting person of dating sites now because of both incidences. I refuse to talk to anyone out of the state of Indiana now that I cannot comfortable drive the distance to meet him.
And yes, I have had people "interested" in me only to have them suddenly quit talking to me after about 2-3 replys. I couldn't figure out what I said to make them change their minds. I guess maybe it wasn't me after all?????!!!!!!!! | | | |
