Good topic. How many of us are really at ease with this? What about telling him that you'd like to get to know him better and wonder if he'd like to meet for coffee or tea after work? I don't know about slipping him your phone number as you really don't seem to know anything about him except that he's 'nice' when you see him, and that's part of his job. Be careful.
