I suggest the 'Viewed Me' feature be made free of charge.

In Australia we recently started seeing POF advertisements on prime time TV. I was surprised to see a 'free' site going to that expense, thinking the outlay would be hard to cover for an ad revenue site.

Now we see the plan in it's entirety. Markus got rich from this site without resorting to subscriptions and now he's shown us rich still isn't good enough. You greedy idiot you forgot how the site got successful in the first place.

Well on the bright side, this does leave a hole open in the internet dating market for a new player to emulate POF's former success.

Your greed may be your down fall. Ask yourself why POF became so popular.

False Advertising [closed - redundant]

Your website header says POF offers "Free Online Dating". This is not entirely correct.

I would suggest "Free Crippled Online Dating" is more appropriate.

Regards...

Thread Deletions - why should it be just up to the community

It's ridiculous letting users do this. Everyone's inner control freak comes out and turns the forums into a battle field.

If they don't how to ignore a thread they should leave the forum.

Can we do this for height as well? I don't want to bother with shallow women who require their man to tower above them. (unless they're really short, then I qualify!)

POF lied to us all.

"...so crippled that it is basically unusable!"

That's a big call. Would you care to detail what it is you can't do that makes the site basically unusable?

Non-main images not showing user at all, OK or not?
Posted: 10/21/2011 7:59:08 PM
I do workout (gym) and might be inclined to include the odd bare torso shot, kind of depends who you want to attract - I know it's kind of wanky!

Isn't that better than a cat??? It's not nudity, it's legal to get around like that in most jurisdictions. Women have bikini and even lingerie shots sometimes and men can't show a bare torso, but they can show their naked cat. What the???

I agree with above that the rules need a good going over, make it clear, and sensible.

And while I'm here another pet hate...

pictures with multiple persons in shot! The profile belongs to one person so we shouldn't be left scratching our heads wondering which one the profile belongs to. I imagine girls do this more than men, those that lack courage might feel dragging friends into shot makes it less personal.

I'm just curious as to what the official policy is, because it seems from reading that images without the user, anywhere, are not permitted.

When I go through the photo review as I do sometimes and find an image of a horse standing there, do I allow it or reject it?

The options ask me to reject it if the user's face isn't in the photo, well the user isn't in the photo anywhere! (presuming the horse isn't looking for a date)

Personally I don't care much for the user's dog, car, holiday snap, ceramic pot etc, but many many users include such pictures in which they personally do not appear at all.

The following is quoted from POF's help section with regard to "What is considered an inappropriate image?"

(Note, this is not particular to Main images,)

Images with nudity, bare torsos, cartoons, celebrities, trademarks, joke pictures or images that do not show your face are not allowed. To learn more about inappropriate images, please click here.

If you upload inappropriate images, your uploading abilities will be disabled.

"or images that do now show your face are not allowed"

So even those images which, say, zoom in on a tattoo are not permitted. Right?

So if I'm reviewing images should I disprove ANY image which does not show the user?

(personally I'm happy for images not showing the face to exist - non main - but they should show the user in some capacity)
