A DUMB EXPERIMENT
Break open your personal self
to taste the story of the nutmeat soul.

These voices come from that
rattling against the outer shell.

The nut and the oil inside
have voices that can only be heard
with another kind of listening.

If it weren't for the sweetness of the nut,
the inner talking, who would ever shake a walnut?

We listen to words
so we can silently
reach into each other.

Let the ear and mouth get quiet,
so this taste can come to the lip.

Too long we've been saying poetry,
talking discourses, explaining the mystery
outloud. Let's try a dumb experiment.

'fighting a thousand fears'
nothing seems ever clear
mind over matter have no doubt
it's time to let mind power out

running life's race failure impedes
makes taste of success sweeter indeed
tears of joy wash away the pain
learning to 'let go' livin' for today

This is love:
to fly toward a secret sky,
to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.
First to let go of life.
Finally, to take a step without feet. ~ Rumi

his hands to my muddied heart...
like finger paint play
rust colored, and mushy
clay formed, reformed, and again. I tell
you I belong to
the trees
and the breeze
that blows, still.
spinning, sleeping, breathing in
the wheel within a wheel

Stand Up

you think I should really care now
you think I should stay
you think I should understand somehow
when you don't want me  anyway

you think I should come around again
you think I should go
you think I should run and hide away
well I don't think you know

I'm never backing down
I'm never givin' in
I'll never give up this fight
I'll be right here in the end

I'll never run and hide
I hope you understand
and I'll always be around
cause I'm never backing down

you think I should forgive you now
you think I should forget
you think I should  stop livin' in
the past with regret

you think I've learned my leasson
you think it's all said and done
you think I'm stronger now
well you're not the only one

and just give me reason to rewind
and I'm never comin' back again
and just give me reason to understand
and I promise I'll forget

and just give me reason to love again
and to let go of the past
and just give me one last goodby cause

I'm never backing down
I'm never givin' in
I'll never give up this fight
I'll be right here in the end

I'll never run and hide
I hope you understand
and I'll alway be around
cause I'm never backing down

The Oldest Thirst There Is
By: Rumi - As translated by Coleman Barks

Give us gladness that connects
with the friend, a taste of the quick,
you that make a cypress strong
and jasmine jasmine.

Give us the inner listening
that is a way in itself
and the oldest thirst there is.

Don't measure it out with a cup.
I am a fish. You are the moon.
You cannot touch me, but your light
can fill the ocean where I live.

"We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust." ~Rumi

we drift, in and out of silence,
we touch, as moon beams lift us,
we're endless vibrations across air waves,
we rise above time and space.

we connect heaven and earth,
an eternal substance transforming sound,
like an acoustic wave dancing inside my ear,
becoming real, each time I hear... you.

I'm powered by,
an undying heart beat,
that pulsates,
my mind.

I believe we are star dust scattered about,
spinning endlessly....~bt

Homeless Man

how did you get here and where are you going?
what's the definition of nowhere?
are we better off not knowing?

I got here through blood, sweat and tears,
and I got lost somewhere in-between,
the shame, pain and fears,
I've found a new home right here next to you.

it was a life that was once blurry,
that now becomes crystal clear,
it's not so much where I've been,
but the lessons I've learned in the end.

I started off slippin and slidin' through life,
never really thinking of what I could become,
the pain just kept whispering inside my ear,
until it finally drew blood.

I cried many tears from the blade of that knife,
and just kept running and harboring the strife,
was it the fear inside that crippled my mind?
or was it the pain inside that gave me the strength to survive?

I just kept running until I was without shelter,
I just kept telling myself life would get better,
I just kept sleeping underneath the stars,
now I burn bright shining down my own light.

the same pain that once made me feel lost and alone,
now gives me the strength to carry on,
the same fear that once made me feel weak inside,
now gives me the strength I need to survive.

and sometimes the questions are better left unanswered,
and sometimes the truth is better left untold,
and sometimes freedom lies in the joy of never knowing,
how somewhere can become nowhere, in a place called home.

knock knock, who's there?
a wooden rock n roll chair
muddy shoes come inside
looking fur a place to hide

sits down to rock with a friend
how's life and the family been?
been awhile, my how time flies
lookin back with diamond eyes

you thank you can fix me a drank
mind went blank starting to think
oh yeah, look at that puppy dawg
barking at that gold necklace frog

late Christmas gift from me to you
hope a virtual green animal will do
doing fine and thank you fur askin
been molding iron fur future castin

got some blueberry muffins want a bite
it's windy outside we could go fly a kite
no summer salt triple back flips fur me
might land upside down town in a tree

like that song please turn it up
go pour a little more in the cup
fill it to the max with extra love
then make it fly off like a dove

now that my cups gone what to do
let's play crayon break me and you
watch some Alf reruns on the tube
tell a funny joke but never git rude

so guess now it's about that time
to head on out of this here rhyme
was gud talking to you old friend
until our words meet here again:)

"There is one thing we must all do in our lives.
If we do everything else but that one thing,
we will be lost. And if we do nothing else
but that one thing,
we would have lived a glorious life."

colors burning, melting
orange sunsets
green oceans
red roses

pink flamingoes
purple beds
yellow butterflies
blue skies

diamond rainbows
black leather jackets
if sound had a color
what would it be

Joining forces
With two wild horses
Pulling a plow
Don't ask me how

Stuck in the now
Lost in time
Coming back around
The other side of town

On the other side of town
Where the wild things are.
You can't swim your way there.
You can't get there by car.

Where the day turns night
And the foot path ends..
I'd like to lie down there
To count the stars again.

to count the stars again
watch the earth spin
bask in its glory
the untold story

comes back alive
on the other side
this lonely town
without a name

never returning to the same place again
where the side walk ends
where dreams begin
I'll meet you there at the bitter end

of stormy weather
somewhere clever
here growing old
waiting for you

Where the Sidewalk Ends
Shel Silverstein's bristly black hair
His gleaming white teeth
Still gnash in glee
Poems so fierce
Poems so free
They fly off the page
And land in a heap

they fly off the page and land in a heap
18 fathoms deep
a Spanish lullaby treasure
silver and gold beyond measure

buried beneath poetic themes
inside imaginary dreams
locked away deep inside
on a magic carpet ride

down on the bayou killing time
the wind whistles an ancient rhyme
lost on the Natchez trace
flashes of a warriors face

disappear back into the wind
carries us to the middle of zen
it powers us that force within
always there through thick and thin

it powers us that force within
still waters outside the wind
ragin' machine wash to dry
giving up for the Last Try

working overtime to make it better
handmaking a 10th grade sweater
stitching colors for a warm fleece
those cold nights without peace

I had my breasts reconstructed today.
I don't know what else to say.
Besides, thank you God for letting me live.
I'll repay you by giving all that I can give.

*naptime*
Peace out (and within)
I'll see you around, my friend

I don't know what else to say
space journey drifting away
get'n the hell out of dodge
trying to move on out from this cold dark garage

working overtime for a new lamp shade
thanking the good Lord for this day he made
in between reality and a dream
there's so many things we haven't seen
