First Landing

In a starscape of fireflies,
on the highest limb of my backyard apple tree,
I perched, eleven years young,
while Apollo waltzed with the Moon
to the music of crickets.

In a late summer field of lost butterflies,
on my patchwork blanket in a crowd of stained-glass children,
I lay, twelve years old,
gazing up at the Moon in Yasgur’s sky,
tracing the dance steps left behind in the dust.

Two souls as one
Tonight take flight

The pinnacle of love
Arranged simply

Gathered and strewn

Across miles of star fed seas
And harvest moons

A sheaf of wheat
Painted in the corner of my eye

To protect what’s left
Of ardent love

And autumn splendour
The beginning

Where lovers go

Spreading their seeds
Of candled inspiration

The flame eternal.

I loved the haiku ommie.

Morning crests the sky
as a bird of prey silently
hunting for breakfast

she lets down her hair
our lady moon
and in the blink of an eye

a bomb will go off on her pole
sending answers off into space
I'm not sure it's a good idea

playing again with mother nature
blowing things up for fun
I prefer her antiquity.

So full
she flies
wild, and big
Like a big
Pumpkin Pie
she absords
all the sky;
It's Amore'
If she knew me
before, I so certain
adore, it's Amore'
So the Moon hits the sky
like a big ole MOONPIe
its AMORE'
Life is silly , its real
laugh and know it is
real ,
It's Amore'

Beautiful, hummingbird...I loved it. (Maybe because you said moonpie... ...I thought it was great.)

glowing and growing
the full moon is glowing
down on me
mother, shine on me
a child I will always be
mother, carry me
back to the sea"

flowing and growing
the river is flowing
back to the sea....

mother earth carry me
a child I will always be
mother earth carry me
back to the sea.....

the river is flowing

the river is flowing
back to the sea.....'

so much like mntnwldflower's post above,
these are the words of a song sung in repetition,
almost as a chant, that I have known and sung for many years....
and like you, mountain wildflower, the author is unknown to me

"There is a woman, who weaves the night sky
see how she spins, watch her fingers fly
she is the beginning, she is the end
she is the weaver, and we are the web
she changes,
everything she touches,
everything she touches, changes"

You are the water after a drought. Thank you...

and on...and on....and on...
autumn, apologies this one also did not have the moon spoken in it,
but offering it as a sort of footnote to mntnflowers's last post above
where I again know a variation of her post, but sung in repetition....
(btw, we're all a refreshing rain on a hot day!)

returning to the moon, here is a last line, 8 line I wrote
(except for the first line:) a couple of days ago...

together we could light up the darkest sky
like the full moon glowing so bright tonight
even with clouds its light prevails
as if floating behind a thousand veils....

imagine us flying on her lunar sails
or we could be equally swimming in sea
so free to be whatever we wish
imagine us underwater now we are fish....

That's ok We I am enjoying all the posts and just sitting back for a while. No sense trying to write a poem it has to be born and want to leap out. Keep writing and welcome to those who I haven't seen before in here.

That last poem Minstral I can really see. There is nothing like a poem that has so few words and yet says it all!

Sanity lives
inside the moons head.
Undaunted by life
as we know it.

No news at 5:00!
He makes stars
come alive!
And he shows it!

Play on dear people from every walk of life
and every star that was born forever child
we opened the windows wide and saw orion
as for the little falling stars
the leonids they had yet to arise
and proclaim this spectacle theirs
turn out the lights, the cities, the towns
and watch the east
life is dancing some where out there
and I will superimpose a stamp
on Orion
close the window
and blow out all light
magic is afoot on the dark side of the moon.

I can't believe that noone has written about the full moon
on new years eve.. Saving it til you're drunk dude?
Everyone swears to be lunarly connected.
I need a Spirit injection.
Oh, god! Bid me one soothsayer!
must be the year of the donkey by the zodiac calendar
the greeks didn't care
That's how Trojan's became formal wear.

I'm tellin' ya..
Full moon on New Year's Eve, darlin
I'm surprised none of the psycho's on your thread wrote it in..
so, I did.

the following is my second attempt at 'a sestina, done in iambic para., 10 syllables' after feeling challenged and inspired two days ago on old soul's to try....
it seems repetitive and unnatural for me to write 'poetry' sooooo structured, (and i'm not happy with the outcome, even slightly edited)....
but basically this one's trying to convey the mystery and love the moon brings to me.....

lunar love

'twas a night the full moon would shine so bright
to gaze upon her filled all with delight
when they entered her lunar paradise
it was as if they'd found sanctuary
kneeling before her she touched each dear soul
as her light sparkled with celestial love

i was among the group gazing on love
in the hope her light would shine on me bright
wishing she'd touch me sweetly in my soul
so i could feel her night of sheer delight
and enter the bliss of sanctuary
witnessing her nocturnal paradise

you were in my vision of paradise
climbing the hill to get closer to love
knowing that this evening's sanctuary
would be dazzling and incredibly bright
filling your heart with ecstatic delight
so love could pour into your vacant soul

an emptiness once buried in your soul
deep suffering had been your paradise
a distortion when pain brought you delight
for your parents had hurt you with their love
as your heart cried with despair clear and bright
alone at home with no sanctuary

then you escaped into sanctuary
being unfeeling by numbing your soul
so your light would be dull and not shine bright
only at night did you sense paradise
when you dreamt of going into real love
like entering a kingdom of delight

now here we were on this night of delight
finally you've found your sanctuary
where the passion and wonder of pure love
could fill you and heal you deep in your soul
to find real peace of mind in paradise
under this large full moon shining so bright

may her bright light tonight bestow delight
glowing sanctuary of paradise
feeling lunar love pulsing through our soul

Special Celestial Question

night sky that beckons
I reckon I'll follow
make me feel small
go on make me feel hollow

make me in awe
of the wonder above
who should I thank
who should I love

gratitude exudes
from my soul to the stars
a tiny voice cheering
bulls, bears and centaurs

shine on me kindly
let my mind find the peace
protect us Orion
with your friend Hercules

burn in aeternum
inferno afar
if your flame is a beacon
let us know who you are

your expanse so vast
even eyes don't see
what the mind can grasp
so thanks for the key

that opens the door
of perception and light
in the shade of the earth
looking out on the night

Eden that was beautiful...thank you for the lovely poem and fishymission it is almost that time of year again where the moon dominates the long nights. It is still too warm where I am for a chilly moon but I have seen a harvest moon already.
