Oh dear.. if the OP is getting turned off by shaved women, does that mean the women that do shave will have to buy some sort of toupee for the area now?

Nawwwwwwww............the only reason I'm turned off of shaved ****s at this point in life is because the last time I was turned "on" by them was when I was playing doctor with neighbourhood girls when we were all 10 years old.......I like to think I've grown up since.......

........I really wonder about men who insist on a hairless ****.........it's very strange in my opinion........

Perhaps you are not aware, but many OB/GYN's advise
patients to remove all pubic hair. Pubic hair traps
moisture and bacteria which can lead to painful
urinary tract infections and vaginal infections.

Sorry to ye nay sayer above (previous page, not the poster of this quote) ~ it may be a load of crap in your mind, but my OB told me exactly the same thing ~ not that it matters what she said, I don't allow chia pets to grow anywhere that doesn't allow proper watering and direct sunlight.

I like it smooth myself, but, it's not mine so I defer to her. I do like variety and if she wants to decorate her playground for Valentine's Day with a heart shape, I think that's cool also.

If I told him my "kitty was completely shaved bare" I would actually not expect him to exclaim "I gotta see", but I would expect him to run for the phone and call the humane society. I am sure shaving cats is considered torturous.

I have an even better idea: Why don't you use your postdoctoral brain to figure out that dispite all the "kitty"talk in this thread it isn't the place for a cat fight? Your "concentration camp" remark is ridiculous and tasteless beyond imagination. Has it ever occured to you that POF members might have lost family in the Holocaust and that any kind of sick or sarcastic jokes about "concentration camps" are utterly disrespectful to anyone whose family was affected by the Holocaust?

That said: I doubt that anybody's pubic hair is a matter of public health. It might be a matter of pubic health, though, but that's an individual matter only.

Besides, every fourth American girl ages 14 - 19 has at least one STD, and from what I am hearing in this thread it seems to be common for 14 and 15 yr olds to shave their vulva. So overall health among those pubic-hair-phobes doesn't seem to be too good...

I prefer a lady with bush or just natural. I don't care for look of it being shaved never have and I love a good bush!

There are no studies that indicate that the growth of pubic hair is more or less a cause of infection or creates hygiene issues. The point is the hair was in place to prevent infections and poses no issues for infection or UTI's. Most OB/GYN's do not advocate the removal of the pubic hair. Complete removal leads to the area being inflamed and the growth of ingrown hairs. More OB/GYN's see women who have "bumps" that think they have an STD but it was caused by shaving than any other problem now.

The USA and some parts of Canada are one of the few places that shaving the pubic region has become more common and yes it really is a fad. Only in the last 15 years has it really become more common place. In European countries its still not uncommon to see women who don't shave at all. But then again until the 1950's showers where a fad also. And in the 1920's bathing more than twice a week was extravagant. Now if you wanted something objectionable I would think a big ol hairy bush that only got washed once a week might do it!...LOL

In the 80's and going back, it was all bush and real men ate hairy ****. As the porn industry moved to VHS tapes and more and more movies were produced for the masses to watch at home more and new areas of porn came to be readily available. A lot of it started out with very young (18 year old) girls who shaved to resemble much younger girls (and yes a few were busted at being only 15, 16,17 years old). It was an segment of the industry that boomed was the pre-teen look in porn. There is a huge market for this (its a shame but true). Thus shaving was born in the porno industry. So if you look back in the late mid 80's you see a handful of adult actors shaved. Buy the 90's it was common and now its pretty much standard. However, there are a lot of movies that cater to hairy bush lovers and those that like it natural. So a good segment of the population is still not shaved. if you watch current adult movies from other countries you will see that most are NOT shaved.
In the general population only a small percentage of people completely remove pubic hair. But really all the same reason you can give to shave off your pubic hair are the same reason to shave your head too. You might as well go completely hairless.

And if you want to try to argue the hygiene issue, any vagina that does not get washed will get the same infections as one that has hair or no hair.

HrH, I think your obGyn has issues of her own and needs to be reported to the AMA. As for 'unhygienic', etc. I call utter bullsh!t. This is a new fad, and it's just a fad. You're not going to try to make a case that every woman since the dawn of time had constant infections and even fatal kidney disease, all because they didn't shave

If you happen to think that looking like you did when you were 8 is great, go for it, but don't make up bogus reasons for doing it.

I did google the topic of pubic hair shaving and OB/GYN recommendations. I ran across several posts on yahoo answers and even the site of an OB/GYN where there are women who's ages ranged from late teens to mid 40's whom at one time had an OB/GYN tell them to shave it off or trim it way down. The women who wrote the questions where offended by the direction of the Dr. and wanted to know if they really had to do it. The answers were all pretty typical and a couple were from people who claimed to be OB/GYN's or nurses that worked in an OB/GYN office. In general they stated that there is no known medical reason for even hirsute women to have to remove the hair in or around the pubic region. It was recommended that any OB/GYN that advises this should not be seen again and you should seek the advice of another OB/GYN. Most seem to agree that only in certain clinical procedures where the need for a sterile environment is required does the need to shave pubic hair have a medical reason. They felt that you should know that the removal of pubic hair is a personal choice and those that engage in shaving of the genital region should understand the risks associated with it like; the risk of infection and other associated problems such as inflammation, ingrown hairs etc. In general OB/GYN's see more women with problems associated with shaving/waxing than women who just trim.

All I am saying is that there is no medical evidence that having pubic hair causes anything!...there is a lot of evidence that shaving your genitals is a lot worse than leaving them alone!!...

Can't speak for me obviously haha, I'm a fan of the bald look, at the very least the nearly bald look for the crotchular area.

I mean lets face it, it's a matter of personal preference.

I hear it's growth is caused by testosterone, a male hormone, so less hair = more feminine to me anyway.

Who cares anyway, if you like it she can always grow it back, if you don't she can always shave it down again.

Actually, testosterone is vital to the sex drive of both men and women. You get a woman with none and that's when you have a problem.

Maybe it's me, but it would seem that a mature, intelligent, individual would realize that the condition of a woman's gentile area is within her right and power to control and choose how it appears, and how it's tended or cared for - without being forced to consider YOUR opinion.

And....

Without being called a psycho **** for her choice.
Or wanting to appear younger.
Emulate beauty.
Or sport a self-centered attitude.

What a crock of egotistical arrogant B.S. you have put out here simply in an effort to control your woman and all women with your narcisstic belief that you should have a say in her labia.

What a insanely close minded topic.

Neanderthals should be seen and not heard.

Wow-again I want to point out...why do men feel the need or right to voice an opinion on a woman's pubic area?

It blows my mind!

You suspect that hygene plays no role? To be more blunt - let's check out the hair in the crack of your jeans and see how daisy fresh it is?

You might think a little more clearly about keeping your nose out of a woman's body and her choices, until such time as you have a week long, monthly flow of blood out your urethra and into your pubes while you're in a business meeting?

Your right it should be a woman choice. Do I have a preference sure and I should be free to state it!! But my preference is for her to keep it trimmed the way that makes her feel sexiest because when a woman feels sexy it carries over and she is sexy!!JMO

Hey when a lady has a hairy bush and finds out you really like a hairy bush it can be just as much of a turn-on as the people that like it smooth. Its just all a matter of preference.

So 15 years ago most if not all women just weren't concerned with their hygiene? Now THAT blows my mind! All I know is I shower regularly and my pubes smell just fine.

Great point!..........which just proves that it's just a recent fad amongst most women and mainly to cater to their dates, boyfriends etc.......

The notion that shaving one's genitals will lower the risk of infection is just insane........Medically speaking, I would say that the pubic hair protects a woman against infection a hell of a lot more than a G-String/Panties rubbing up against them all day do......do women realize how much soap chemicals and bacteria that clothing material hold?.........and they prefer this stuff going straight into and/or in contact with their inner parts?.......

Most women I've been with shower in the morning and before bed with plain old soap and water............their pubic hair is as fresh as the hair on their heads......(which by the way collect far more atmospheric pollution don't ya think?)

I still caution women that the man's saliva he inserts into your vagina probably outweighs the risk to you by a factor of 10.....

Kudos to the women out there and in this thread who don't fall into the trap of "fads".........there are plenty of us men who love you just the way you are........

I concur. You must remember that the medical industry only makes money when people are ill. They will not necessarily offer useful, practical, or accurate advice--they want you to keep coming back to them.

Um. No. That's not it at all. In fact, physicians are overworked everywhere and there's shortages of them. The way people let themselves go and fail to take care of themselves means physicians don't need to try to create a market. Sorry, but your premise is false. It's just plain BS to claim that pubic hair is 'unsanitary'. The person who never washes it may be but that's not the hair's fault.

I've been told by more than one dermatologist and physician that this whole fad of showering every day is also bad for people because it strips skin of its natural defenses. Humans were created long before soap, water, and razors were and our bodies developed their own self-cleansing routines and defenses against illness. We're messing our bodies up by wrecking the systems that already exist with junk from douches to the once-popular crotch deodorants. Thank heavens those are now gone. I bet next there'll be a fad to remove all eyelashes and nose hair HAIR! Up a NOSE! Near a MOUTH! Ewwww - how can you kiss THAT?

do women realize how much soap chemicals and bacteria that clothing material hold?.........and they prefer this stuff going straight into and/or in contact with their inner parts?....

Excellent point. I had trouble with infections. My brilliant gyno suggested it was the detergent I was using. He was right. I switched to Ivory or Purex - stuff made for babies' skin with no harsh detergents in. Never a problem since.

What are all of these men talking about when they say it is nicer not to fight a wad of hair (to quote a recent poster). Hair doesn't grow on the clitoris and the inner part of the labia majora or minora. Those parts are hair free. No fighting hair necessary. Really fellows, use your fingers as a "frame of sorts" on the area you are working on. I do a general trim, not extreme at all, I've never had a man have problems going down on me and believe me we have discussed topic. I am clean and pretty darned liberal sexually speaking and hair just isn't a problem, nada, never.

Women are free to do what pleases them, but it is just inaccurate and sexist on the part of the guy who keeps talking about "fighting a wad of hair". Give me a break, part the frickin hair. We have contended with your bodies in all their concomitant parts and accept it all as part of the male anatomy which makes touching and licking you perfectly desirable. It is a cop-out to keep denigrating women's bodies.

And to the women who are worried about their menstrual cycle....wash up, it's no biggie, If you aren't uptight about your period it helps the guys not be uptight. Really, you folks need to get past the idea that women' s bodies are inherently dirty. That is outdated. The next thing you know they'll be segregating us and sending us to our menstrual huts in the woods. It's 2008 and we shouldn't be having to discuss whether women's cun*ts are inherently dirty. Women...love your selves!

I still maintain, it's between you and your partner, if you partner likes the bald look there you go, if your partner likes serious bush? well there you have it. They're the ones that gotta look at it after all. What's easy for me ain't always what they like to see, just how it rolls.

I think this is an enjoyable thread, lots of great comments.

I found it funny that the "fad" of shaving would come to be unpopular so fast. I can relate this to my personal experience of coloring the hair on my head, which is visible to the world as I dont wear a hat. Long before the "fad" of red hair became popular, I had red hair and I liked the attention this new color provided. I wore a very natural shade that people often asked by people I knew, if red was my real hair color. I always laughed and said no, that I was born a blonde. I only colored it because I wear the badge of mother and everyone knows, you get grey hair from your children - LOL. Then before I knew it, everyone had red hair and the "fad" was in full swing. Well, I immediately re-colored my hair blonde and the attention soon followed. Moral of the story...........be yourself, be unique and you will be someone not easy to forget.
