I think you have it backwards, the bands were there for the experience as well.

If you weren't moved, you either didn't listen, or your heart is not filled with hope for America. . . I'm sorry for your cold heart, it must hurt to be devoid of spirit. 38,000,000 people tuned in, most of them are still feeling inspired today. . .

I could care less who McCain picked. . . It was irrelevant after last night!

I don't think it's that good for McCain to have pundits ignoring Obamas speech and focusing on Palin. An estimated 40 million watched Obama's speech and it was a doozy. The only hope repubs had of dampening that enthusiasm was to cast the speech in a negative light, like they tried to do last night.

Now as for Palin, after the sensationalism of her being a woman and an NRA supporter, former beauty queen clears, you have someone with no substance and an embarrasingly lame record. She left the town of Wasilla, where she was mayor, in economic ruin based mainly on a grudge match court case to seize some land by eminent domain and build a legacy sports center on. Now the town is still paying for that faux pas and existing with cut backs in essential services. She has another abuse of power scandel dogging her recently. She has no economic savvy (a trait shared by McCain) and the economy is in shambles and she has a pitiful education, a BA in Journalism from some crappy school in Idaho 20 years ago.

The fact that she's pro-life is really not going to be enough for her to fall back on when McCain drops dead 4 months into this presidency.

The Constitution is a living document, designed to adapt to the times. To promote the General welfare can be interprested as healthcare by our generation

How does lining the pockets of insurance companies promote the general welfare? The people aren't going to suddenly get free health care. Obama will hide the price increases in higher taxes, nominally on the vaguely defined "rich". But we all know that higher taxes on the rich trickle down to the middle class. Universal Health Care is a shell game that Obama is playing with the middle class.

You cannot disregard that PURE greed kills 18,000 Americans every year.

Sure I can. Greed never killed anybody. Diseases and malnutrition do.

You HAVE to be willing to put your money where your mouth is.

Let's remember this quote, shall we?

I am on the high road on this. I have a great job, with great health insurance. I don't pay a very large premium. So, a national healthcare system would likely cost me far more than I am now paying. However, I am willing to do so to reduce the senseless deaths. I am also willing to have some of my hard earned dollars go to social programs to help a poor woman raise her child, instead of aborting.

Okay, so why not put your money where your mouth is and give more to charity? You should be willing to take all the money you make, beyond what you need for basic necessities, and give it away. Or is it pure greed that prevents you?

You eliminate the insurance companies, 1/3 of the cost of healthcare is insurance.

I am a liberal, I would bet anything that I do FAR more than you do to make a difference! I am willing to, and DO put my money where my mouth is! Nice try for a red herring though, bread and butter of hypocrites the world around!

As a side note about the rally to roll out Palin, the McCain campaign again showed they'll take what they want without asking. Before they went onstage, the sound guy played the Van Halen song, "Right Now." Problem is, they didn't have Van Halen's permission. A spokesman for the group says if McCain had asked to use it, they wouldn't have given him permission.

Jackson Browne is already suing McCain for using his song "Running on Empty" in a campaign ad without permission.

I wonder if this is indicative of the kind of "leadership" McCain would use as president--take what you want even if it isn't right. I do question his judgment about things.

http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/08/mccain-sucks-at.html

That is so lame. He had the same problem using Franki Valli tunes for a snarky Obama youtube vid. (Can't take my eyes off of you) and John Cougar Mellencamp Pink Houses. Then he switched his theme song to "Johnny B Goode" and Chuck Berry told him to quit it and came out and endorsed Obama.

It's like, the guy will criticize "celebrities" and play down the importance of artists, but he thinks these songs just spontaneously spring from the ground and he's heard them so long, so he's entitled to use them to express his own feelings or set a mood.

Exi,
Looks like the State of Alaska is already ahead of most in this......wonder what else Sarah is ahead of most of the rest the country on too?

http://www.hss.state.ak.us/hspc/files/200710_gilbertsonpp.pdf

After the powerpoint presentation is more detailed information. It looks like they are looking at a cooperative effort between providers, patient advocacy groups, funding groups, and the state government to participate in finding better solutions.

I have no arguement that a better solution is needed! But, our differing point of view is that I don't think we can just simply look to 'government alone' (ie: through a government run UHC program) to do it.

Collaboratively to better solutions on complex issues is the only way to go.
Looks like Sarah's group already might have some experience to bring on your subject!!!

John McCain and working mom as VP.........Stroke of pure genius.........................
Consider the working moms in this country who feel left out and under appreciated.
Do you think this will resonate with them regardless of all the other aspects to his choice? Think about the significance of McCain`s choice!!!!!! Who in the hell in this country is less appreciated than working mom`s.............................
They work all day to help bring home the bacon, return home tired to the bone, the next thing she knows, she is thrust in the position of short order cook, bottle washer, house cleaner, toilet lid lowerer,{hell,I dont even know if lowerer is a word, but I`m sure you get the point}and not to mention two dozen other wifely and motherly roles that I`m sure that I must have left out. Then when the lights are out,she must perform some of the most delicate ego-boosting known on the planet.
So,the question is................do you think she has the ability to soothe relations with world leaders in time of crisis in the event that she becomes the Commander in Chief of the greatest nation on earth?
Bottom line.If I was a horse bettor,I would bet on this filly........................

17 pages already on Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin took on a corrupt gov. in Alaska and cleaned it up. She stood up against corrupt people while Obama played in the same sandbox happily with them in Chicago. She has more executive experience than Obama or Biden. She's run a state economics and everything connected with the highest office in a state. Her duties are more related to a President's ... just on a smaller scale.. than being in Congress.

Palin gave back money collected from big oil to the People of Alaska.

Palin took her own personal stand on abortion and followed her convictions. Doesn't mean she would try to overturn Roe vs. Wade.. even though the person repre08!sented in Roe is now pro life herself. .. but, Palin would do her best to keep the ban on late term abortions. She doesn't hide that fact.

Palin is a maverick... so, this ticket is a Maverick/Maverick ticket.

Oh.. and, btw... MSNBC is making news.. but, not good news. They are getting slammed for being on the DNC floor, worshiping Obama...rather than doing unbiased news coverage. Pathetic.

Suth'n Boy, it had to be you, didn't it. I wondered on another thread how soon it would be before people started saying Obama pulled Eighty-four thousand people to hear Stevie Wonder. Since CNN reported this morning that they were charging $80 and $90 dollars for semi-close parking spots, I'm guessing they REALLY love Stevie!

Oh there is just so much beauty about this choice....it is just...so...ripe.....perhaps the whole Viagra thing all comes together now, doesn't it?

They're all laughing at him. How sad.

Can't you just see her in a prom dress at the podium of the VP debate when Biden wipes the floors with her and in her mind all she can hear is...."they're all gonna LAUGH at you!" "They're all gonna LAUGH at you!" She sets the place on fire just after a large bucket of Alaskan oil spills over her banana clipped hairdo.....omg the comedians are going to have a field day with this one.

I think it is hilarious. McCain just proved my theory that he didn't really want the job in the first place. Obama will hit the oval office on skates. This is the best day of the whole campaign.

That's all very nice to discuss whether she's a feminist or not, but one thing's for sure, she has a totally INADEQUATE EDUCATION.

That's nice that she was Mayor of a little town, but does she have even the slightest grasp of the macroeconomic issues involved in running the whole country? I'm interested to hear her answer questions about the money supply, trade imbalances, the mortgage crisis, just to name a few.

She's a heartbeat from the president, and all she's got is her "plucky" attitude and a BA from Idaho?

I have complete confidence Obama will handle himself well in debates against McCain. I don't with Palin. Unless she has some sort of Vulcan mind-meld to help absorb information, Biden will slaughter her.

Biden doesn't need to slaughter her, just to step aside and let her show how uninformed she is.

The media never let it die when McCain mispoke and said that Iran shared a border with Pakistan. But, having been there so many times, every one knew it was a slip of the tongue, not really a mistake in geography.

This Palin chick doesn't even know what the Vice President does.

One or two more comments like that, no matter what the "true" intention of the statement and independents are going to run for the hills and, even if they don't go Obama, they'll vote for Barr or Nader.

McCain cannot pick up the votes he needs with her a heartbeat away on the ticket, unless she comes out of the first and only debate looking like Mme. Curie. She practically has to invent or discover something right there on the debate floor to prove herself and assuage independents in 2 short months.

He should have picked Hillary if he wanted a woman. We all know people have a way of "disappearing" when the Clinton's are around, she could have had the #1 job after all. lol This is not going to pick up the evangelicals like he thinks it will IMO. She's not old enough, gray enough, and hateful enough to pick them up. She won't pick up the NRA vote, that didn't even really need to be picked up, they're pretty loyal. And it's not going to pick up the Hillary supporters, because #1 she said Hillary is perceived as whining, #2 she hasn't given the war in Iraq "much thought", and #3 she is strongly anti-gay marriage and same sex benefits, anti abortion. True Hillary supporters will not go for that, especially identifying with her as a woman more than they did with McCain. Nope, not happenin'.

She might....might--pick up the votes of the WNBA and the Polar Bear Club. So, ok....go Palin!

McCain made a good solid choice with Sarah Palin.

It's funny to see the Liberals trash Palin ... just like they have McCain and Bush, etc. etc. while holding in the highest regard for Obama. ... who ran with criminals, has less experience than Palin and is running for President. AND.. to see the alphabet soup media on the floor bowing to Obama... and, now, running scenes from the DNC over and over and over. to try to distract from the Palin news. While FOX is running 'Breaking' stories on the Hurricane, the updates on missing little girl Caylee, etc.

It's no wonder.. absolutely no wonder that MSNBC is losing it's viewers rapidly.
Amazing. But, sometimes common sense does not prevail. It didn't when the Dems. elected Obama for their nominee.

But... sometimes it does prevail...

i.e. a McCain/Palin ticket.

In 1988 A Son of Texas, Senator Lloyd Bentson spoke this famous line to Dan Quayle.
"Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy."

I'd like to borrow his words now and say,
Governor, you're no Hillary Clinton.

You failed to mention she is under ethics investigation in Alaska. By picking such an inexperience Vice President the Republicans lost the issue of experience in regards to Obama. And how is she going to stand up against Biden in a debate? Biden has forgot more about foriegn policy than most people will ever know.
