Mr. steelcity, just for your information, Mr. Osama Al-fazzad Bin-Laden, BELONGS to the saudi royal house.. He is part of the SAUDI ROYAL FAMILY (or was, just in case he is already death). And he, at one time, was considered one OF THE RICHEST MEN ON EARTH... according to forbes magazine... ..

Yeah but if you recall the Saudi Royal family kicked Bin Laden out. He was part of The Royal family at one time, but now they want nothing to do with him, because he was getting too greedy even for them. A matter a fact just before he left for Sudan in the mid 90's the Royal family had a bounty on his head, because he started to threaten the Royal Family. So he had no choice but to flee the country or end up dead.

That is somewhat correct. What is not said is that he disagree with them on certain policies that were implemented on Saudi Arabia at the time. Even after he asked them not to. Specially when he made gazillions of dollars with his construction company in places like Libya. And he tried to invest it in the saudi infraestructure, specially oil. Actually, he was the first to START investements here, in the U.S.....

In the end it all boiled down to power and control like with most radicals. He wanted to be the head guy in the Royal family and they weren't going to give it to him. He felt that it was his rightful place while the rest of the Royal Family wanted to have none of it. So now he hates western and european interest because he believes that they had too much of an western, european influence on the rest of the Royal Family.

if you are no different then now i'm starting to look at you with questions. radical muslims want to kill us all. christians don't, zionists don't, jews don't, buddists don't but radical muslims DO want to kill us. they have professed it publicly on many occasions. that's why we're in a jihad (their word).

I suppose you never heard of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols?

The biggest terrorist to me are the pedophiles lurking around our schools targeting our children, the robbers, rapist and murderers with in the US.

People need to stop living in fear and being afraid of the unknown, Islam for example. We know we have terrorist who are our nations citizens, but we haven't gone to war with them.

Edisto, you have the formula right there. Heck, we wouldn't even have to go so far as to extend a compassionate hand as you outline.

All we'd have to do is...

Stop taking the clothes from the poor
Stop making the hungry hungrier
Stop making the sick sicker
Stop wounding
And to stop helping the leaders of other nations to do those to others

We don't have to step forward, we just need to stop.

For all of those who believe the propaganda that "they hate our freedom" or they "want to kill us because we're not Muslim", do those puppet strings attached to you hurt? It seems it would be painful. They don't hate our freedom, they hate that we keep freedom from them. If they killed "infidels" just because, why didn't Muslims do that before Israel was formed or before Iran's elected ruler was ousted by us with our favorite guy supplanting him that happened to be a cruel and ruthless dictator?

To defeat terrorism, we have to change what looks back at us from the mirror.

So, what are some tangible, practical ways to combat Global Terrorism?

A particularly appropriate question, given today's date.

Here's what I would do, where I the US President, and it's the same thing I would have done on 9/12/01.

Call a world conference (U.N. or outside of it) of all European nations, Canada, Israel and a few select others, on terrorism - behind closed doors.

Get an agreement to gather together money, based on a per capita basis, from each country based on it's total population annually. Let's call it "terrorism insurance".

Work together to form an independent counter-terrorist group, under mutual control (think mini secret NATO type arrangement). This would be totally independent from any one nations control, and under it's own separate group control by a handpicked panel of people from each involved nation.

A second group, also independent, would be formed of judicial specialists from each nation, and it would also be top secret. It's job would be to vet any possible suspects judicially before any other action would be taken. It would be a mini-court of experts, including a defense team that would in effect be the approval panel for all actions of the group. Nothing could be done to proceed, unless these people had given the green light legally as to validity. This is done to prevent abuse by any one government.

Each country would be able to provide a list of suspect terrorists, in order of priority, and with all information they could release to such a top secret group of experts - who would have top security clearances. This information would be studied, and would be the basis for deciding priorities and actions. As I mentioned, there would also be a "defense" group , who would act as advocates for any suspect - just in case someone was being railroaded politically.

If a standard of complicity or guilt was met, and judged worthy, then the target would be passed on to a group similar to Mossad's post Munich anti-terrorist program.

The overall operation would be planned out by an operations team, with the prime objective of terminating said individual with extreme prejudice - without innocent loss of life as a prime base of action (similar to Mossad's "Operation Wrath of God") .

These would be done by select teams of highly trained ex-intelligence/special forces/anti-terrorist squads acting under complete autonomy - except for the one rule that they must limit their actions only to the targets involved, and if that could not be done....then the operation would not proceed.

In effect, they would bring terror to terrorists.

They would be supplied with anything they needed, and supported by all nations.

If successful, nothing would be claimed - except a release of false news leaks of other terrorist/other groups claiming responsibility for said actions. This would throw confusion into the ranks of the terrorists, as they were skillfully lead to believe that each target was being taken out by third parties.

The goal would be to ensure that there was no traceable connection back to the original source, and each squad would act totally independently of one another. Even if caught, operatives would have almost nothing to confess. I'd also offer each some sort of "suicide option" , in case of capture.

The best possible way, if it could be arranged, is to ensure that even those operatives would have no direct knowledge of the origins of their targets. They could be told that they were a renegade band of agents who had decided that this was the only way to solve the problem - without any limits by any conventional governments.

Done properly like this, they could provide an almost ideal way to target these suspects using their own methods.

I'd even throw in a few special treats, by assembling some of the best special effects people possible to provide just a few "religious signs" to the Islamic population worldwide. With the help of Islamic experts, ones who know the religion in it's proper depth, special "activities" could be set up at the best time and place.

Perhaps some "vision" revealed to some pilgrims on the Haj, expressing Allah's anger at how his name had been misused to murder the innocent. I think that a small team of people could perform literal magic, and create doubts about the "religious" validity of terrorism.

Since religion is being used as a weapon, why not use it back - but while honoring it's basic tenets ? This would not be used to corrupt the base of Islam in any way, but only to return it to a "non-justification" of terrorism.....as a counterweight to it's misuse by those who really corrupt it's message in the pursuit of recruiting people to do their dirty work.

At the same time, a public panel could work on the root causes of terrorism, and start to address the "valid" reasons why such things exist. These could be addressed with programs for better education, and other aide projects that would aim to dry out the roots of terrorists as a longer term solution.

So, with one full spectrum program, you start to eradicate the bases of terrorism : existing terrorists and their support teams, reducing the bases contributing factors of terrorism like poverty and lack of education, and "purifying Islam" back to it's true roots.

It might not work, but at least it's a plan.

Exodus [22:20] "He that sacrificeth unto any god save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed."

[22:18, KJV] "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."

Numbers 31:17, 40

[Verse 17, Moses says:] "Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."

[Verse 40:] The persons [women who had not known man by lying with him] were sixteen thousand, of which the Lord's tribute was thirty-two persons.

Don't give me any of that old testament, new testament crap either. It's in your bible, and the reality is it's been used as an excuse for mistreatment. Unless you're going to tell me the Crusades never happened?

Seven years ago today, Al Qaeda was pretty much finished.

Every nation and virtually every muslim in the world was against them. Bush asked for help in rooting them out of Afghanistan and every nation he asked stepped up.

Then he invaded Iraq. He made bin Laden credible. He ridiculed other nations that joined him in Afghanistan. He used rhetoric that Al Qaeda would have put into their mouths if they wanted to discredit the US in the Islamic world.

Now the hated enemy of Al Qaeda is deposed in Iraq; a secular regime will be replaced by a theocracy; Sunni muslims will be persecuted and that plays right into bin Laden's propoganda machine.

The only way to defeat Islamic terrorism now is to invent a time machine, go back and somehow ensure that the Florida votes in 2000 are counted.

"Terrorism" can't be defeated, anymore than alcoholism or drug addiction, domestic or animal abuse, toilets getting stopped up, foundations or roofs needing to be rebuilt, wrestling matches being fixed or obesity.

When people who don't have an army and/or uniforms try to fight people who've cut them out of the political process, they resort to this. It happened in the days of Jesus. It happened in the days of Moses.

Cain slew Abel...

"War on terror" is something Bush started so he could declare as many wars as he wanted, because his family made it's fortune off war and the defense industry... going all the way back to Samuel Bush and Woodrow Wilson. Their family sells oil, ammo and weapons to the Kaiser, allies of the US, Russians, Nazis, Japanese during WWII... even when their sons are in the US military getting shot at with it. It's just the way the family is.

Terrorism is like the poor.. it will always be with us. This is why we have wars... between nations, social classes, whatever...

The only way to "stop terrorism" would be to kill everybody

We can not defeat it Mr Sidney. Not as long as WE suport them also..?? WEIRD.. isn't it..?? Let's not forget that Al-queda were OUR allies in the Russian ocupation of Afghanistan in the 80's. WE were the ones that put Sadam Hussein in power. I mean, TRULY, WE HAVE BEEN SPONSORED TERRORISM without even know it..!! Of course thing got out of hand because of bad decisions and VERY POOR EXECUTIVE management. I do not know if the reason for that is arrogance or else. Europe has been TERRORIZED FOR DECADES...!! And their INTEL is just as good as ours.. But we never had something as big until 7 years ago. With the only exception, probably, of OKLAHOMA!!.. So, if we have such a good intel, I don't know what to think, either they knew it and let it happen deliverately. Or someone with the EXECUTIVE power stopped our law enforcers from doing something. I have my reasons to say this., and actually, in the 9-11 report, there is a small paragraph about it. All I can say right now is that is has to do with the SCANDALS and other issues that were going on at the time. And if I am right, as well as other people who thinks likewise, we would hung old fashion way the REAL RESPONSIBLES...

Homeland Security is one of the major elections issues this year. Germany Nazism and Soviet Communism has been defeated but how will we defeat Islamic Terrorism?

- No such thing exists as "Islamic terrorism" since there is nothing in the Koran that directly states or asks its adherents to do such things. Therefore, labelling it as "Islamic terrorism" doesn't make any sense at all unless you are going to specifically bring us evidence from the Koran as the primary source of Islam where such things exist and will be able to explain us the verse in context.

- Islamic terrorism is a term that the US government has invented in order to manipulate the American population and persuade them to think that everything bad is done by the Muslims and that we need to attack them.

- The whole point is to crash their culture and civilization and create more problems in their society as well as loot and plunder their wealth, such as oil and control their governments and territories.

- If you would like to defeat terrorism, stop the US government from attacking other countries and create more terrorists from ordinary citizens just because we killed their entire family, children, wife, mother and father and they get up to revenge. And then we call them "terrorists" and the media says that the terrorists are trained and brought in these countries.

I still think one must include a certain aspect of termination of high level terrorists with "extreme prejudice" in any war against terrorism. Capturing them does little, except increase the risk of people trying to free them by performing other terrorist acts.

Killing them and claiming victory turns them into martyrs for their cause.

Once one has reached a certain level as a terrorist leader with a verifiable history of committing violent horrific acts that create mass innocent civilian victims, the only lasting true solution seems to be a one where they cease breathing.

One cannot validate their cause by dealing with them, or letting them live to die of old age. There's too much risk that they will continue to inspire and contaminate new minds.

"one in one hundred of the 180 million young fundamentalist Muslim men prepared mentally, morally, and spiritually to be terrorists. "

The deeper problem is not the one in one hundred of any religious group that will follow their religious leaderships call to kill other human beings. The problem is when religious leaders - in the name of whatever they called god in their religion - call their membership to kill other human beings.

To go to the root of the problem is to come to understand and resolve the relationship issues amongst human beings all over the globe that would cause a religious leader .... the evangelicals calling for the killing of Iraqi women and children or the Islamics calling for Christians and Jews in many countries or the Rabbis for the Palestinians or the Anglicans for the Irish Catholics or ... and... and...

Why do I want separation of religious leaders and government leaders? Because it is bad enough when a religious leader calls for killings. When they do so with the power of government to take those killing actions it imposes their hate filled behavior on the entire country.

Sow killing... reap killing
sow hate ... reap hate

sow love .. reap love
sow peace... reap peace.

The Prince of Peace does not approve of attacks by anyone against anyone.

And when the so-called good guys start assassinating people on the hit list for no good reasons, dont they become a big, bad shadow terrorism network, too?

That's why one needs a means of vetting suspects, before they are marked as targets, and that should be a decision made by a cooperative legal team with an international base exactly to avoid abuse - and including a team to "defend" them against such abuse.

Again, any innocent loss of life must be avoided at all costs - even if it means some guilty men walk away.

The bar must be set high, and not used to target political enemies, people who target only property without loss of civilian life, or people involved in insurgent forces -which are a legitimate means of revolt against an occupying army (in the minds of those doing it).

These must be dealt with outside the bounds of such a program.

What I define as a terrorist, specifically, is someone who has willingly and deliberately aided, abetted, planned, financed, or participated directly or indirectly in a act of mass violence against innocent civilian targets.

That's my bar, and it's a pretty high one.

Those people I will offer no quarter to.

Again I'm going to promote this movie "Paradise Now" which shows how two young Palestinians are recruited to be suicide bombers.
They are young, and have no direction, don't think they have much to live for anyways...much like the gangs in the US recruit. The radicals give them a sense of family, belonging, and purpose.
And I'm so glad people mentioned the home grown terrorists we've had here. There have been plenty. And speaking of those gangs. They terrorize inner city neighborhoods everyday. RIGHT HERE.

As for Muslims wanting to kill me Mr. Bomb...haven't met one yet. All are warm and welcoming to me. My greatest desire is to travel the Middle East and North Africa (oh I need to save money). I have no fear at all. I understand the culture and respect it. I won't go over there dressing like a hooch (although I hear in Damascus I can nude sunbathe) My Muslim friend who is AMERICAN and from Kansas now teaches in Kuwait. He teaches with many others who are non muslim. I had a Christian friend from Dance class who did a mission in Lebanon and loved the country. Most of my dance friends have visited the Middle East. My teacher went on a desert trek through Morocco. All of these ''Christians'' came home in one piece.

Dubai would be the ultimate. I hear it is amazing. Any of you ''haters'' who would like to get rid of me...send me several thousand dollars and I will be happy to disappear into the Muslim world for a couple of months. Well except for Indonesia, have no desire to go there...but Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, syria, Turkey, UAE, Kuwait...

The conflict between Israel and Palestine and the unconditional support from American government to the Israel at the expense of so many innocent Palestinians is what has been stemming terrorism.
People throughout the Middle East view American’s government as a hypocrite and far from just when it comes to the Israel and Palestine’s issue. This according to a survey taken by Time Magazine.

If you visit Palestine you wouldn’t help it but to feel discomfort toward American government, even if you were an American. Their situation in there is like hell on earth.

So to defeat terrorism the world has to address this conflict fairly and solved it once and for all.

Furthermore, we have to ask the hard question for example why on earth a human being would resort to such an act of terror against another.

I was working in the Middle East when 9/11 happened, and I remember watching the footages with my colleagues whom most of them were Muslim, and boy, did I ever seen sad faces before. They all said “this is wrong”, their compassion and disgust toward what happened filled up the room with a human feeling that I’ll never forget.

So don’t tell me most of Middle Eastern people hate American people,
Or hate Christian people,
Or hate freedom and democracy – because it is absolutely untrue. They only hate the fact that American government has been a major supportive of Israeli’s injustice toward the Palestinian people whom have a large number of Christian people by the way.

Once there is no conflict, those callous fundamentalist individuals will run out of reasons to base their self-served ideology on. Thus, people will discard their ideas in no time.

Wow... some wild conclusions here...
Terrorism is an ideology
What ideology did the Boston Tea Partiers have with John Brown's anti-slavery movement or the Israel nationalist movement or the French underground during WWII?

That's one brainwashed idea... I can't swallow that "war on terror" line, hook and sinker like you have. No way.

"Terrorism" is a label that a nation which is occupying another puts on clandestine acts committed by the occupied nation in order to drive the occupiers out, in an attempt to make the resisitors of their authority appear to be morally wrong.

We called the insurgents who fought against the Russian occupiers of Afghanistan "freedom fighters"...

What do you think the Russians or the government in Kabul called them?

NEGOTIATION, DIPLOMACY, & APPEASEMENT
Negotiation is a craft. Diplomacy is a skill about that craft and appeasement is a conclusion someone makes about the negotiations after they're done.

We've got an apple and orange and a pear.
I hope you don't think they're the same... because they're not.
A person who doesn't negotiate with their enemies under any circumstances, to try to avoid war is either a fool or someone who makes huge amounts of profit from war.
Why would a person not try to avoid war?
Why would a person refuse to negotiate?
If it's to avoid making vital concessions, I could understand that, but one has to at least negotiate to start off in order to see what those concessions would be.
Bush has never done that.
Need I say more?

"terrorism" is only seperated from other acts of war by usually being done as a surprise.
If someone attacked YOUR country, would YOU not be a "terrorist" to drive them out?
If let's say, Russia... came rolling in here.. overwhelmed our military and started trying to make us live by their laws, wouldn't you do whatever you could to fight?
I should at least hope I would.
.. and then of course, they'd say "We murdered your children fair and square... there were soldiers standing behind them...".
Uh huh....

First elect Obama
Then he'll draw the troops out of Iraq
Then he'll send the to where Osama and Al Quida is: Afghanastan/Pakistan
Major source of terrorism rooted out and KILLED....

Or you could vote McCain in and since the actuary tables give in a 2 out of 3 chance of not making it through a first term, he can chase Osama to the gates of hell which will be right on McCains way...

I suggest anyone who is really interested in this topic watch "The Power Of Nightmares" , which is a three part BBC documentary you can find online at places like Google video.

It's an exceptionally good look at the reasons why the "war on terror" came into existence, in it's present form, and what it's roots were.

this is a news flash to all Americas, there is no such thing, as a war on terror. its your governments way of keep you Americans in line.

beltongary: We're way past that. It's a way Bush and the republicans are keeping the world in line and an excuse to invade weaker nations who have resources the multinational corporations want to control.
It's been accepted as an excuse for a neverending war.
I hope we can stop it someday.

How to react to terror? my brothers in israel know this and so do I...

but didn't the Israelis drive the Brits out by acts of what the Brits called "terror" back in the 1940s?

Zionits do have a history of terrorism, they would view it as freedom fighting as probably most other terrorists do.

Pre andPost world war two period,Zionists working towards the formation of the state of Isreal and attacked British interests who were the administrators of Palistine:

1937-1939 The Irgun conducted a campaign of violence against civilians resulting in the deaths of at least 250.
Nov 6, 1944 Lehi assassinated British minister Lord Moyne in Cairo. The action is condemned by the Yishuv, but the bodies of the assassins are brought home in 1975 to a state funeral and burial on Mount Herzl.
1944-1945 The killings of several suspected collaborators with the Haganah and the British mandate government during the Hunting Season.
July 26, 1946 The bombing of British headquarters at the King David Hotel, killing 91 people — 28 British, 41 Arab, 17 Jewish, and 5 others. Around 45 people were injured. A warning was sent before the explosion, but the British authorities claimed they received it too late to act on it.
1946 Railways and British military airfields were attacked several times.
Oct 31, 1946 The bombing by the Irgun of the British Embassy in Rome.
Jul 25, 1947 The reprisal killing of two British sergeants who had been taken prisoner in response to British execution of two Irgun members in Akko prison.
Sept 17, 1948, Lehi assassination of the UN mediator Count Bernadotte, whom Lehi accused of a pro-Arab stance during the cease-fire negotiations.

Not trying to pick sides here ,but terrorism is terrorism.........
