Madonna is the thing of the past. She used to be good when she first came out, but she is washed up and always trying to make a comeback with new tracks but they go nowhere.

Never worshiped at the shrine of Madonna...Pop icons of her ilk tend to lose me after the first big hit...sensationalistic, attention grabbing antics aside...(which I will admit gave my rebellious nature a momentary ping ) her music holds no real substance for me...I never trusted her artistry...
In her first beginnings there was a hint of a punk sensibility but that was quickly swallowed up by the Big Corporate Music Machine...Consider her one and only acting high five came in her early days with Desperately Seeking Susan...
After that her image was set by the PR's on high...Sexy iconoclast.... oh boy... a woman willing to ruffle a few feathers and show her titties... Hmmm....she'll sell us a s**t load of albums...Hey boys we got a live one...Ka ching Ka ching...
Sadly, Madonna is morphing like many others before her into a lame parody of Madonna... Can you say Elvis...I, for one find her schtick wearing thin... can anybody tell me where sexy aging pop iconoclasts go...maybe I should ask Debra Harry?

"and maybe you think that when you pass 25 life is over but I think Madonna (and contemporaries her age) have pretty much proven that women can stay sexy and innovative far beyond the Hannah Montana years."

Tina Turner is nearing 70 and showing more class and grace than Madonna. She is on tour now too, but not wearing get-ups from 1994. Madonna can't say the same.

Sorry, I do not buy Madonna being so original. Maybe, because I saw Prince do it all first. Prince had his women wearing their underwear out first. Prince was discussing sex and God in his music before anyone heard of Madonna.

I think Madonna had a great platform to get beyond the sex symbol ideology pushed on women, but instead decided to pander to it. That to me is quite sad and a horrible message for younger women. Is staying 25 forever the only way?

Madonna is no Prince Rogers Nelson.

Oscarz post #57

Hmmm...superlative manipulators of the media...to sell what?...art or artifice...content or conduct...I stand by my first impressions of Madonna...All flash...no substance...

Oscarz..dear Oscarz...I hardly believe life is over at 25 ...as a matter of fact I'm from the school of thought that believes it doesn't really get revving till your forty and up...

My statement pertains specifically to the limitations inherent in identifying one's self as "sexy" in the entertainment world. We are all familiar with the old adage "sex sells" and it is a winning formula...up to a point.

I believe we have all witnessed enough plastic surgery disasters of otherwise attractive but dare I say.... aging, sexy stars to warrant a second glance at how the media defines "sexy".

When one is driven to manipulate the natural aging process to continue ones viability as a "pop" star in order to maintain an image of youth beyond the reality..one stands on a slippery slope.

I suppose it depends on your standard of sexy...Oscarz
I'm not personally turned on by plastic...

Madonna's face is morphing as we speak...what price fame?

51 and plastic free...I'm bringing sexy back...LOL

Call me frugal...but if I was paying $500.00 !!! for a ticket to any concert I would expect more than a little originality...

Madonna's "innovative talents" rely more on her ability to manipulate the media (and through a very narrow window, I might add..) than through her skills as a singer/dancer.

Expensive production can never equal authentic vocal talents... although it can mask poor ones...and wooden, repetitive body contortions do not a dancer make...

Madonna concerts sell because she's still riding the wave of hype she created lo, those many years ago...

I'll save my money for a Bjork concert...I'm confident I'll get more bang for my buck...

As for Ms. Turner...ah...now there's veteran talent...and a whole other kettle of fish.

I like that Madonna is playing more electric guitar these last few years. I kind of wish she's been doing this all along. Truth be told, she CAN play, acoustically and of course, electric. I think she would have picked up more respect from other musicians, fans & guitar mags if she'd gone that route, than to concentrate on controversy, cone-shaped bras and all of the other insanity that made her famous.

Plus, her recent Rock Hall of Fame induction would have had much more credibility if she's been more of a musician than a dancing performer. It would be nice to hear a CD of her own work with guitars, rather than listening to the same old dance beats, samples, duets and other non-original music.

The only CD that she's ever put out that I respect is Ray Of Light. That is her only mature CD to date, as far as original material that actually sounds decent.

"interesting that you brought up prince though. they are almost the same age and their debut albums were released at almost the same time. hard to see how you can say he had such a jump on her. tell the truth I think they have a great deal in common."

You are joking right?

Prince Rogers Nelson was born June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, MN and Madonna Louise Ciccone was born August 16, 1958 in Bay City, MI. That makes them the same age with Prince being two months older than Vadge. Besides Vadge ripping Prince off and being born the same year, even though Vadge lied about her year of birth for years, that is all they have in common. Michael Jackson was also born in August of 1958.

Prince's debut album, "For You," came out in April 1978 from Warner Brothers. He composed all his own music, played all his own instruments, and wrote all his own songs. Madonna's debut album, Madonna, came out July 1983 from Sire Records. She might have written a few lyrics, but it was the brainchild of John "Jellybean" Benitez. Remember him? 1978 and 1983 are not close in my idea of time.

Please don't insult Prince by comparing him to Madonna.

"I didnt say that they were the same person, I said I thought that they had a great deal in common and I am not kidding."

They have one thing in common, they are born in the same year. I do not find anything original about Madonna except her business sense. Whenever I hear Madonna, all I think is "who is she ripping off now?" Whenever I hear Prince, it is always something to think about and new. Even the stuff that was odd was still good. Prince at his worse is still ten times better than Madonna at her best studio production.

I think you are just a Madonna fan and there is nothing wrong with that, but Madonna has always been big on media manipulation and slim on musical ability. The one song that described her best was "Material Girl" and she lived up to it in spades.

Prince is a genius and is up there with Mozart and Beethoven.

Hey, guys how did we end up with Prince again?...good point James, all the same...and ya know that was a hard symbol to pronounce...I always had trouble saying," hey guys have you heard the latest from anrhkrr....oh ya know the purple guy"... sheesh.
And to Oscarz;
I'm not sure if crediting Madonna with influencing later pop stars is such a great accolade. Personally, I'm getting a little bored watching young women posing in semi-naked crotch shots in lieu of actual talent.
See Britney's latest contribution... oy vey...
That girl tries to cover so much soft porn territory it made my head spin. Let's see dom chauffeur...sexatary...sweaty buff babe...innocent kitten.
Then again I'm not a man so perhaps I'm missing the vital info here...

He changed his name to an unpronouncable symbol, to make it shorter, and what happened? His name becames six times LONGER: The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. That's hardly the mark of a genius.

But even that became shortened to TAFKAP.

I am not the only one who has compared Prince to Beethoven and Mozart. Many musicians and music scholars put him in the same league as past composers. Prince was a child musical progeny too and many consider him a musical genius.

Madonna and Prince do share some similarities. It does seem to be a fine line between genius and madness, and both have displayed moments of musical clarity that have inspired the masses.

The flip side, both should stay away from any future cinematic ventures. We don't need any more "Under the Cherry Moon" or "Shanghi Suprises".

Madonna has pretty much gone off the deep end with the Kabbala gig. The director Kevin Smith reveals some bizarre tales of the Jehvoah side of Prince in one of his Q & A videos.

Careful musical icons... your madness is showing!

Granted, you do have to have a huge ego to get up in front of millions and do what they do. But I am puzzled as to why Prince records sooooo much material and just simply stores it away?..... much like the recluse Howard Hughes and his storing of his body fluids in the 1970's?

I guess we can overlook the strange for those moments of entertainment magic where everything comes together. We love to be entertained and there is no doubt they both worked hard to entertain us. But whoa, that Michael Jackson Zone isn't too far off and it isn't inconcievable that either artist would end up in tawdry headlines....

Prince starts own cult.... Madonna wants to be the VP with Palin in 2012....

What is startling is that ANYTHING can happen with these celebrities. I'd like to see both Prince AND Madonna up there on the stage together. I'd pay good money to see that! The Purple Bling Tour

I agree with Britney Spears comment, and also the plastic surgery thing, but seriously, she doesn't even play the guitar??? hehe, too funny, and more reason why she ripped us off..

I wanted to gouge my eyes out when I saw pictures of that hack playing a guitar, it should be a crime for Madonna or any two bit pop singer to touch a guitar.

And don't get me started on her put on British accent, thats a complete joke and I find it insulting since I have English heritage. Don't try to speak like a Brit if you aren't one.

I mentioned earlier that Madonna is very well-skilled in acoustic and electric guitar. I am quite suprised that she didn't really start using one live until 2001/2002. She CAN actually play. I don't know why she hasn't considered using a guitar all these years up until recent. I have not been able to confirm it, but I was told awhile back there is some bootleg video out there of Madonna jamming with some of the people in her band around the studio one day and she wailed ass! I'd love to see that. There are some videos of her playing that Gibson Les Paul on You Tube.

More recently in Las Vegas, November 9, 2008…

If she’s playing something in the Las Vegas video, I can’t tell what it is. I guess I hear some kind of noise. And what the h3ll is she doing to that amplifier?!

I agree that Prince is a musical genius, but as for Madonna...funk no! Just as with her style, all the media shows all kiss her ass when all she does is take whatever is hot in the indie scene, and steals it for herself. I remember seeing her on one of the music awards in late '98, and I thought I was seeing Massive Attack, and it turned out it was that hack doing one of her songs from Ray of Light.

Oh, and she needs to stop doing this rap shit too! It's even worse than Pet Shop Boys rapping (and this is coming from a huge Shoppies fan).

While I am primarily a classic rock fan, Madonna is a favourite of mine and has been for many years and she always will be.

Why? Because she has paved the way for women postively in society and she's an excellent role model for girls and women. She's a smart businesswoman and has proven that women can be mothers and have a career too. She's not only a singer, but a brillant songwriter, author, director, producer, and she has lent her name to various charities over the years and won many awards not only for her music, but for her charitable contributions as well.

Why don't some men like her? That's easy.....because some men are threatened by a powerful, strong woman like Madonna is. Some men cannot stand to see a woman be successful in life.

She's empowering to women and girls.

thatguy, Guy Ritchie was a nothing before Madonna and he's still a nothing. He used her. Good for her for leaving him. I'd leave a guy too that told me to give up my career and attempted to control me.

Qamila, I agree with your comment about Twitney Spears. She's proven to be an unfit mother and she's an irresponsible, talentless individual. She doesn't even write or produce her own material. She will never be around as long as Madonna has been.

Okay, where do I start....

Oscar. You won't meet women on here by attempting to be a feminist.

I used to like Madonna in the 80's when she sang good songs. That's it. She keeps "reinventing" herself to try and still make a buck.

I don't like wannabe musicians going overboard to "make a statement against the establishment" for no other reason than to stay in the spotlight.

And of course, I have to do this...

Cyndi Lauper can still sing circles around her, she still looks like a woman, and doesn't portray herself as anything but what she is, just a normal woman who can sing her ass off.

To Honey...

You stated "Why? Because she has paved the way for women postively in society and she's an excellent role model for girls".

Could you enlighten me on how she has done this?

I don't think that Madonna would be an appropriate role model for a "girl".

I have no problem listening to her, she's okay, but if we're talking "woman power", then I'm assuming that you'd have no problem if your daughter wanted to be the next Jenna Jameson, correct? She is successful and powerful, so you would approve of that?
