Just as 08 slipped into 09
my life shifted in every way imaginable
the carpet came out from under a few dreams
and though i was shaken
by all of it
i did the only thing i know to do
to wrap myself up like a caterpillar
find a safe place
( alabama was my tree)
let myself heal into the wings

i left it all so quickly it took a moment to adjust
where am i
i thought
where did he go...
though i still think that thought sometimes...
i no longer need an answer
my wings are fine now
and a few months ago i started flying again
all around the country it seems
site seeing
riding trains

if you knew me you would know it is quite normal for me to be brave.
it is quite normal for me to travel the world.
it is quite normal for me to take on anything..any time..
but the end of 08 left me a little...unsteady
so i a m just thankful thankful thankful
to have my smile where it should be
to have my wings extended once again
ready for something and anything
maybe even love

where is my boat
sleek with teak
landlocked and lost
now as we speak
plying the waves
on a windward tack
nearing the point
where wind's at my back
where is my vessel
all rigged and ready
with me at the helm
out beyond the jetty
windworn and happy
and salty and free
one if by land
but won with the sea
where is my sloop
with her decks bedecked
with provisions and visions
of a life unchecked
by landlubber burdens
and rubberband knots
a life busted free
where I call the shots
I'm ready to rumble
I'm ready to float
to the sea I succumb but
where is my boat

Precluding the possibility of
Cross contamination
Sterile impervious dividers are believed to
Separate the exhaustively dissected
Arts and sciences

Consequently it’s possible to forward
The ludicrous notion that
Economic and environmental concerns
Can be independently weighted
In favour of the former

Yet the belief that we can’t afford
To stop poisoning the planet
Confirms that, “When sufficiently vast
Economic power becomes by its very nature
Political power”

new moon

there it is
on jagged horizon
sliver of white
reflecting the sun

symbol of new beginning
monthly cycle
new moon in western sky
slips behind coastal hills

november coolness
red leaves
early sunset
spectacular colors

round about midnight
i lie on my couch
listening to jazz
from James Moody & Kenny Barron

no worries now
oh man oh woman
such sweet sounds
my ears smile

slower slower
warm blanket
rich history

I have to give thanks
for all of you
in this place of wonder
where dreams come true
so special so comforting
so non-judgmental
funny, inspiring
never too sentimental
that is until now
as I relate my feelings
let there be no ceilings
on the expression of love
I feel for your kindness
it truly leaves me
feeling sometimes lineless
I know not your touch
but I'm touched by you all
when I needed friends
you all answered the call
when life felt like death
I came here to do my living
so thanks to all
and Happy Thanksgiving

I know the stars can be employed to navigate oceans
But not how
I know the sky appears blue
But not why
I often wonder where her heart is
But not tonight

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends

what a year indeed....
last night it came to me
this past decade has filled with change
even more than the one previously for me
thinking 40's to 50's deepen sensitivity....

today feeling love gratefully
along with a touch of melancholy
for my family is not all in this country
so these holidays can be a little lonely
missing those almost putting hearts on hold
yet blessing the day as it will unfold....

to rosie and all here....
sending thanks for such wonderful company
with all the writing we've shared this year....
you inspire me daily with your creativity.

mighty hawk

high high above
red tail hawk
moves north
perfect blue sky

mighty hawk sees
well developed eyes
natural landscape below
choosing best route

destination ahead
pastures of plenty

nestled in your embrace
i like being with you
beso profundo
los labios

high high above
sunset colors feel good
soaking in lovely evening
not a sound among infinite stars

a round white form
our companion
presence with illumination
full moon rising in eastern sky

only this moment
never ending
heart beating
grace of dog

collect around story poles,
what us whites call totem poles.
communities collect
and around stories
stories that feel right.
pof has collected
a community
around stories.
and comfort
around pof story poles.
words are illusions
only when they are.
words are ocean waves
only when they are.
our minds
create their reality.
our words
express our realities.
make love.
good bye .....

The rainbow will shine again if we wish on the wishmaker
Ride a saddle into the moon
And if we ever reach Pluto or the maker
It won't be a minute to soon

When in colance and a chalice has been filled with peace
Let me know if I can take away your wounds of heart
So that all may cease
Before it rips you apart

This year to the next I'll be your friend
Throughout all your faults and tears
Till the end
Eternity of years

Sorry to despoil your always-uplifting thread Rosie…couldn’t help myself…goes to balance.

Slaves to platitude
Between hymn and carol
The alleged desire for peace on earth
Is dutifully repeated at Christmas
And indeed this revered dream
May soon come to pass

Should our records endure
Millennia from now
Future archaeologists might note that
Toward the end
As glaciers turned to memory
The great leaders gathered in Copenhagen

And in a favourite forgery of justice
The powerful insisted on
A level playing field
One that puts developed
And developing nations
On equal footing

Conversely that the handful of players responsible for
The overwhelming majority of historical emissions
Ought to contribute the lion’s share of monies toward a global imperative
Offended the sense of equity and fairness
Of the five percent of humanity
That controlled eighty percent of its wealth

***Dear Rosie, I hope you don't mind my bleak commentary...dime***

the handful of players responsible for
The overwhelming majority of historical emissions
Ought to contribute the lion’s share of monies toward a global imperative...

***"...the handful of players..."
absolutely the multi-national corporations' responsibility is overwhelmingly obvious, but it also belong to this here sheep

Can’t You Try To Be Serious For Even Just One Minute?

well i can but it isn’t pleasant

turn down the tv a minute
it’s just a commercial,
you won’t miss a meaningful thing

pass me that apple pie
let me cut me a serious slice

it sorta tastes like this

When daily I rise
and feel my first footfall to
the floor in my

part of the world

I recognize that
I make the admission that

my ease in life
my standard of living

is ultimately connected

to the loss of a life

in an

part of the world.

now for me
that’s some serious pie...

care for a slice?

no more apple pie for me
thank you
i think i have had enough

a few bad apples
stole the pie for themselves and
only left the crumbs

***I apologize for the apple pie Rosie, it's store boughten and it's kinda gone bad...
got some home made cookies baked in an off-the-grid oven, made from local wheat, cow's milk, (and goat's milk if you like), maple butter, eggs, beet sugar, honey, molasses, dried berries...***

Wonderful poetry Rose! I just love your earth mother take on the season and see you are still as in love with your beautiful grandchildren as I am. Here's hoping you all have a most blessed time together.

I wanted to drop in with one of mine if I may dear poet

Heart of Christmas

I'm going down to Upland for Christmas
where two tiny elves, Lilly and Rose,
wait for Santa in the blue-collar town
of California's orange-grove history.

Cherubic, beguiling, flower faces
with sky-blue orbs twinkling, see me
as if I'm really something special
and I am special--their own
silver crowned Christmas angel--

As the resident grandmother;
I help mom and dad make a tradition,
a strong foundation the children remember;
connecting our history with hopeful future.

Lilly shines belief, the same one I left behind
when I grew from child to woman. She shares
that shine with me and once again I fall in love.
Baby Rose follows Lilly in everything, taking
her cue on what we do from her older sister.

Mom and I help the children leave milk
and cookies for Mr. Claus and a carrot
for Rudolph. When the children go to bed
and are fast asleep we nibble and drink...
pile presents under tinseled boughs.

Our celebration is for the children,
if you're good and very lucky, you'll have
some joyful sprites of your own to help
you recall the golden shine of Christmas.

life is a slow walk
through hours and years.
the river of my breath
is warm on my chest
so i keep returning home.
i look around the room
and see you. my senses
connect the surrounding world
to my mind to see, to remember,
to sing poems of love and joy
and sadness for this year,
and last year and next year.
so my senses and my mind
create the river as they see it.
what else is there?
touching her neck,
watching the fog slip
wordlessly through the forest,
feeling my pain, physical
and emotional, and then
nodding, agreeing with her
about being without words
shaped by her neck
under my fingertips.
ursula le guin wrote, years ago,
that "in poetry beauty is no ornament.
it is the meaning. it is the truth."
this breath of mine, warm on
the palm of my hand,
is no ornament. it is the meaing.
it is the truth. your breath and mine.
even poetry is a step away.

water of our life

love flows like water between us
powerful blue waves rise then crash
white sands of la playa
calm peaceful reflections

breathing as the tide rises then falls
kissing while the sea otter plays
embracing gentle golden monarch butterflies
satisfying our thirst with cool clear water

deep feelings attach with sparkles
rich colorful images delight natural senses
soft moments never end
tender pink lips kissing like drops of rain

tiny seahorse you are loved
spirit of doc ricketts
history of cooper cabin
pacific grove lighthouse

taj mahal calls as we dance
sonny stitt alto smooth as butter
gentleman leonard and divine webb sisters
laughter of our own sea lions echos along green hills
