she asked me if I knew how to
make love
I picked a small flower from the
lawn, twirled it with my
fingers, smiled...

Ya know Keith I'm really glad you showed up with your lovely write because you have perfectly illustrated what it is to write a poem about your relationship with God
that is artistic, celebratory, and completely inoffensive. I tend to get in trouble around here for my lack of tolerance for those who come on a poetry thread and tell me I'm gonna burn for eternity in the fiery pit if I don't think like them. It's made me a little over-sensitive to "pulpit speak" and I have to be careful to not offend when I point out what offends me, 'cause I really hate hypocrisy!

Sorry for the interruption of flow.
And welcome my friend.

In tea plantations brown
girls pull the very tips from the
life-giving plant, fingers stained
up and down the mountainside
sweaty- browed and tired now as the
afternoon recedes like a
tide over the rim of
mountains holding back the
full moon

after midnight
women
in the quivering light
from simple oil lamps
dress in
rustic cotton
blouses and skirts
slip woven sandles
onto their feet
and leave their homes
to climb the hill
above the village
into fields
of pu ehr
they gently pick
the leaves
and fill
their coarse cotton sacks
for the morning buyer.
they glance at the stars
and laugh with one another
with sounds
like night birds
in nearby trees.
this morning
in a small, hand built cup
i sip
hot pu ehr
thinking of the women
earning pennies
for harvesting tea
and i wish for a simpler life.

words can kill and
I'm honing mine with steel and stone.
the well placed verb
can do the job alone.
verbiage is so much fluff,
one razor word should
be enough.

this morning
i'll ride the bus
from gooseberry point
into town
reading stories
of the coast salish people
and watching
forests of alder
on slopes falling
toward the sea.
in town
at the bus terminal
i'll cross railroad ave
and go to
one of my homes
the adagio cafe
and, as usual,
sip chinese breakfast tea,
reading stories
about the coast salish people
and watching
through great windows
the pulse
of the city, and of my life.

Ahh the power of the mighty leaf, tuning us in to higher frequencies, allowing time to unfold more smoothly, evening out the illusion to a more palatable form, more easily digestable to we fragile human creatures.

My valentine's tea is steamy
and lush, with notes of wild things
from the high Hindu Kush, there's promises
there and clear heady air
all collected at last in my
lascivious cup

Will you have a sip? This tea must be
shared to get the full benefit of
insight and folly, to deliciously slip into
warm moonlit pools enchanting the
flesh, this leaf allows you to undress
to become, to redress all the wrongs of
the illusory world, a silky sarong to
wrap around your sinuous curves,
my strong hands on your
light body, electric
and sure

My tea is love and
long nights of sweat and
tongues tasting the soul released, of tortured moans and
slippery lips, embrace the hairy beast
that we've become again, returned to our own
skin at last at peace, I gather your soft brown hair in my
fist, I gently twist, low sounds escaping now and
rhythmic bliss, we move as one, joined at the
lips and hips, reaching heaven now, it's not so
high, and it took
just one sip

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!!!!

Want some tea to soothe your soul...
to lift your spirit...
to warm your heart?...
Imbibe me!
Sip me sweetly...
tenderly...
slowly...
inhale my gentle fragrance...
receive my warmth into your very veins
and
as you feel the warmth of my breath on your skin
and the warmth of my esteem rising within you...
know that you are loved.

Happy Valentine's Day, all!...Kori

seeing you
standing there
i put this cup aside
i choose, instead,
to drink
your deep beauty
tenderly
i savor
your gentle fragrance
your aromas
and warmth
rising
from the cup of your life
i feel your breath
on my face
like the warmth
of brewed tea.
we drink tea
in the hours
between love.

playing with the ancient japanese colection of love poetry, "kasginshu:"
young tea leaves
blossoms of new life
are pinched away
from the future
to make my tea.
in that way
i, too, am pulled
from the branch.
a few leaves
dropped in water
rising to boil
are stirred to and fro.
such is the blossom
of youth
the fire has value
for only a short time.

my young heart you are a vessel
full of fresh young leaves
and once i take your warm juices
into my mouth i forget
other tea i've sipped.

yes, i forget
all other older tea
i relax, and enjoy you

Brought home from BearWoman's thread:

Valentine's has come and gone
My love for you though
Is still as strong as
Paul Bunyan's ox
And just as blue
Your moving words will
See me through
The vale of tears
We call this life
And Paul Bunyan never could
Find a wife to wrap soft arms around his
Prodigious frame, to murmur words to
Keep him sane, and so he died alone but
Free, his blue ox beside him and his
Axe handle on his knee

basho, and the journey, 1689 ce (translated by sam hamill:

"the moon and the sun
are eternal travelers.
even the years
wander on.
a lifetime
adrift in a boat
or, in old age,
leading a tired horse
into the years
every day is a journey
and the journey, itself,
is home."

in kyoto journal
there was a two page dream
about falling
through space? emptiness?
that falling is what life is about.
sometimes we fall alone.
sometimes we make love, falling
sometimes we link arms
with circles of other people falling.
sometimes we wonder
if the falling will stop, softly
or kersplat or if the falling
goes for all eternity
and only our consciousness changes,
today i'm don, yesterday i was li po,
tomorrow i'll be marybeth
and we keep falling

Die while you're alive
and be absolutely dead.

WHY MIRA CAN'T GO BACK TO HER OLD HOUSE

The colors of the Dark One have penetrated Mira's body; all the
other colors washed out.
Making love with the Dark One and eating little, those are my
pearls and my carnelians.
Meditation beads and the forehead streak, those are my scarves
and my rings.
That's enough feminine wiles for me. My teacher taught me this.
Approve me or disapprove me: I praise the Mountain Energy
night and day.
I take the path that ecstatic human beings have taken for
centuries.
I don't steal money, I don't hit anyone. What will you charge me
with?
I have felt the swaying of the elephant's shoulders; and now you
want me to climb on a jackass? Try to be serious.

one of my favorite books of translated contemporary haiku is by mitsu suzuki, the widow of the great zen master in the u.s. shunryu suzuki, first abbot of the s.f. zen center, the tassajara center south of s.f., and green gulch farm, on mount muir. she captures the traditions of taoism and zen so beautifully. the images are microscopic and radiate forever, black ink on rice paper. from her only book in english, "temple dusk":

along the creek
we look for tea-room flowers
dew-moistened trail

on the night before his funeral, at green gulch:

autumn valley
funeral eve chanting rises
drifts away

and then:

faint sound
funeral ashes fall
spring bellflower

life continues:

roasting sesame seeds
one pops out
warm winter

shadows of teaware
serene on the shelf
memorial tea for rikyu

kiln fire
tea bowl blazes
great frost night

spring melancholy
left to the rain
tea room kettle boiling

tea whisk shaped with flame
ash on his dharma robes
iris blossoms

giant gum tree
under its long sleeve
spring's full moon

Isn't who one of which, my dear?

The sound of one hand
Clapping captures in cliche
The whole of creation, an
Oversimplification of the
Perfectly simple source of
All wisdom and uderstanding.
Wisdom and understanding,
Words meaning nothing, animal grunts
Really, all our words, Victorian mansions of
Pretense and seperation, sheltering prideful monkeys with
Great ego's and frilly sounding vocalizations, from the love
Of God, from such simpleness not oversimplified, from the
Healing nature of raindrops, the reconcilliation of moonbeams,
From all the hunting and gathering, the sweat, blood and promise of
Death inherent in our mammalian representation of time.
