grace

there's something in the waves
to grapple with
forces from the realm of gods
never to be taken on
lightly

I have rubber fins on my feet
mimicking the natives
perhaps hoping to blend in or
pretend
but I will always breathe air

yet I am drawn as a tide to the moon
as a tiny leatherback to the promise of life
as a seagull to a french fry
always back to the surf

and my heart will pound as it
always does
like an expectant lover
checking his watch

I will raise my hand to shade my eyes
like Magellan or Ericson
with love and concern

and then I leave the world of air
again a small sea turtle
at once at home and afraid

kicking and panting out past the breakers

Liquid Death

I drank death down and laughed,
I imagined myself a prince among men,
I loved and loved my quaff,
I never wanted it to end.

I paid hard money for a little death
The cheapest quickest kind
In order to forget myself,
For a way to suddenly be blind.

But it never fukking worked,
I feel I've been miserably duped -
I'm still here and life hasn't changed
After all that death I puked.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy.
I got love in my tummy,
And I feel like a-lovin you:
Love, you're such a sweet thing,
Good enough to eat thing
And that's just a-what I'm gonna do.
Ooh love, to hold ya,
Ooh love, to kiss ya,
Ooh love, I love it so.
Ooh love, you're sweeter,
Sweeter than sugar.
Ooh love, I wont let you go.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy,
I got love in my tummy,
And as silly as it may seem;
The lovin' that you re giving,
is what keeps me livin'
And your love is like
Peaches and cream.
Kind-a like sugar,
Kind-a like spices,
Kind-a like, like what you do.
Kind-a sounds funny.
But love,honey
Honey. I love you.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy,
I. got love in my tummy,
That your love can satisfy;
Love, you're such a sweet thing,
Good enough to eat thing
And sweet thing, that ain't no lie.
I love to hold ya,
Oh love, to kiss ya,
Ooh love, I love it so.
Ooh love, you're sweeter,
Sweeter than sugar.
Ooh love, I wont let you go.

Tea for One

How come twenty four hours, Baby sometimes seem to slip into days?
Oh twenty-four hours, Baby sometimes seem to slip into days
A minute seems like a lifetime, baby when I feel this way
Sittin, lookin at the clock, time moves so slow
I've been watchin for the hands to move
Until I just can't look no more
How come twenty four hours, Baby sometimes seems to slip into days?
A minute seems like a lifetime, Baby when I feel this way.

To sing a song for you, I recall you used to say
"Oh baby this one's for we two", Which in the end is you anyway

How come twenty four hours, Baby sometimes slip into days?
A minute seems like a lifetime, baby when I feel this way.

There was a time that I stood tall, In the eyes of other men
But by my own choice I left you woman, And now I can't get back again

How come twenty-four hours, sometimes slip into days?
A minute seems like a lifetime, Baby when I feel this way
A minute seems like a lifetime
When I feel this way...I feel this way

Pearls

My ears are still ringing with the Kings of Leon
My c o c k is still throbbing too;
The primal nature of the night reverberates like too much acid in my flesh.

There is a rancid shyness about growing old that can't be overwhelmed
By loud music, or a slow grinding coming together.

But God your f u c k ing skin, wet
With the moment
Leaking all the things I want you to say.

You rolled up your shirt,
lost...

I ran my hands up your body,

I took it into me in shallow grasps, because I can't have your p u s s y, because
That's the property of losers and junkies.

But I know you felt me.

outside

like Moses incensed
I will scatter tablet shards at the
feet of golden calves mooing away the
morning of the world, my righteous anger
separating me for all time from the
wisdom of the east; then,

wildernesses of distance grown up around me
separating me from myself
self- imposed
exile

ginger man
on the road
fountainheads
loom like
the duino elegies

donleavy on the
road to ixtlan,
I just can't remember how the
story began...

I know I lost my shit over
some stupid idol worship but
I'm better now

separated.

nearby,
Abraham cries out
I too feel the weight of too many
mornings without you...

I LOVE THE FUK OUT OF U

Every time I laugh away the night I pay
With scarlet epiphanies and vomit
But you love me anyway until the dawn
And I try again, behind the shadow of a statue
Or the leanings of a metronome
To impose my frail will upon you
And you always laugh and
Tell me how sadly I've
Failed.

there is a world where
everyone talks like a blabbering poet at two in the morning
all the time; I went there last tuesday and I called you first,
but you were totally engulfed by a dark entity of the too real and
never got back to me. it doesn't really matter though, because I had to leave by
wednesday night, totally exhausted and hoarse like too many sonnets yelled into a
rainy night after a swallow of whiskey, like basically too much of a good thing, or not
enough of a bad.

When they said we fell from Eden,
they were wrong.
We forgot, that’s all.
We forgot how rare and precious is life on Earth.
We forgot that a millisecond’s difference is all it takes,
to miss a collision.
We forgot that one atom's change in position
creates a whole new molecular structure.
One Adam, and one Eve.
We forgot to believe.

We forgot that air is the breath of the planet,
and her breath is our breath,
though it is choking us,
our forests, our lungs
destroyed by greed.

We forgot that the rivers and oceans are her blood,
the fish her platelets,
as we poison and kill in great drag-nets,
of hunger for more.

We forgot that the earth is her body,
and each mineral deposit and lake of oil, her organs,
her crystal mountain receptors,
mined to depletion,
extinction...

We forgot that we are her spirit,
manifest in every thought of life,
and that we are the dreamers of this dream.

Lucid dreamers.

We forgot who we are,
that’s all.

why am I always in a forest
these dreams of you
take me to
some green majesty
waayy off in my mind
You don't look brown either
not really
creamy light
I suppose it is a fantasy
and none of it makes any sense to me
yet you continue to torture
slowly decapitating
please suture
these wounds
i've no need to hurt anymore from you
I just want to rest in peace
to live and breathe
one ****ing moment
without you in my mind...
and you can't give that to me...
or can you?

Buried

I crawled gaping and wet from
The womb of my youth and there
Were fountains, and ordered lawns tread upon by
White linen suits, and I was a child again, out of place
Uncomfortable.

I stuck my head in life's ponderous sand
Ostrich-like and prayed for it to all just
Go away, but it didn't.

Now I have learned to breathe the sand
Fish-like, In through my mouth and out through my
Nose. I have lost my sense of sight, long ago scratched out,
Now I make due by sensing the earth's vibrations.

It's not so bad this living with my head in the sand.
At least it's better than living with my head up my ass!

Oh, I don't know... I do quite enjoy the view of my head being stuck up my own ass
on occasion.

Pied Piper

Christiania smells like
Freedom and hashish
Hamp beer from Amsterdam
Patchouli and anarchy
Located in Copenhagen but
Not really

Wandering the streets
Of Denmark's capital, so
Proper
Homogenous
So many lily-white folk
Walking so upright
Uptight

Suddenly
He appeared
His electric tye dye
Shimmered
He walked with a
Swagger
A bounce
That tossed his waist-length
Dreadlocks at every step
And he wasn't
Lily-white

He was my
Pied piper
I
His only rat

I followed
Him mesmerized
Through an old stone
Gate, aware immediately of
A change in the air
Trees and shrubs left unmanicured
Ebullient
People laughing and
So high

A homecoming for
Certain
A reminder of
Synchronicity
In the most proper
City
Left behind
My pretension
Embraced
The sunshine
Pushers row
I sat down at a table
In an open-air cafe
And smoked a joint
Al fresco
With my new
Rasta
Friend

I also can't fathom that i cant even seem to find a way to privately email a moderator besides this ridiculous public embarrassment. When i started contributing to these great poetry forums several years ago I never had these problems. No matter what time of day or night if i felt the urge i could write some poems. what happened? now nothing is the same and it feels incredibly impersonal. Could you trouble yourself with an explanation please?:modhammer:

SHISHKABAB

There is no doubt but that things are getting strange
When one cannot help but not rearrange
On a daily basis.
I only want to love what is right in front of me.
Sometimes I am under the relentless scrubbing of an implacable eraser
But that thankfully passes, after a while.

At least while the paper that is my soul is intact, scarcely.

I met a Welsh girl
she became my sister-in-law
she taught me about tea
the calm of it

to sit and visit
over a cup of tea
and if you left your teabag in too long
she'd scream it was gonna turn to stew
