Of course my forearms put Popeyes to shame.

I'm with the 'junk food' theory; I won't go out and get it; rather, I'll make my own version of 'fast food' at home, if ya get my drift I'm holding out for gourmet quality.

Has anyone practiced COMPLETE abstinence for sometime?

Did five years sometime back. Was by choice after I got sober. Decided to do a year and enjoyed it so much it lasted five years. Was working all day and going to grad school at night so was busy busy busy. It ended when a lovely lady threw her self on me...just couldn't say no and didn't want to say no.

Used to work with a married woman who went 8 years without before she asked me to help her end her dry run. Once met a lady on line who had decided it was time to end her 16 years without and was kind enough to select me to help her.

I think there's a lot more celibacy out there than most folks realize - and many varied reasons for it.

OK...I have a realllly hard time believing that anyone went more than a month with TOTAL AND COMPLETE ABSTINENCE.

Can we clarify? Are you asking sex with another person, thing, or self?

Sheesh...if I skip two days in a row of rubbin' one out...I have then practiced abstinence...for a day! LOL When I was dealing with cancer and felt like my innards would fall out....we still had sex!

But I have gone 1.5 years without having a sexual partner...and it was awful!

I have never practiced abstinence due to too much drams or heartbreak from a relationship. Life goes on drama or not. We eat, we sleep, we have sex even with drama. The concept makes no sense to me at all.

OK..leaving aside the 'self-love' thingy!!! (Do people really NOT masturbate for years at a time??? ) I think im up there with the best... from 5 months preggers to when my kid was 15 years 3 months old... Sooooooooo... 15 years 7 months!! I can truly say that I missed it like heck the whole time!!!

Wow...I am truly amazed...not being a smart ass, here. I mean...I can COMPLETELY empathize with those who have morals and values that do not allow them to have casual sex...but to include masturbation?!

Sheesh...I have a toy collection that I could start a small porn shop with! LOL It's just something I do....not as if it were a daily chore like laundry or cleaning the toilet...but as if it were (it is!!) part of my healthy living...better health! Kinda like exercise, taking vitamins, or...showering! LOL And it is a GREAT stress buster! All this talk of raising kids and careers getting in the way...hella! I would not have gotten through all those things (mine are grown and gone) had I not been able to rub one out!

I think abstinence is more about chosing for yourself not to do something you'd really like to do in order to achieve something else.

The gain is "who am I without a man/woman." A sense of self. A time for centering.

A break from the give and take of a relationship.

Hmmm.....well that depends, Russell....how much would you be willing to pay for such??

I think you know it works, sweetums!

River and Kilt...

I get what you are saying....but not sure I get what masturbation has to do with such, or how it would deter one from reaching these self improvements? It is almost like you have the mentalities that masturbation is unhealthy...or leads to casual sex...or is the cause of other bad. When it is not.

yes unfortunately not by my choosing. i feel sexxx is the best way of expressing yourself to your partner, and a very important part of any good relationship. it would be tough to have a complete relationship without it. when i go a period without dating besides the closeness and intimacy of a lady i do miss the sexxx as well.
hope this doesn't last much longer.

have u went into a long episode of abstinence, and how did it go?

Chronically ~ sad to say. For me it's easier to resign to none than to mess around with casual stuff. I think the longest time span was just over three years. It felt like 33 years.

Yes. It was amazingly and happily drama-free. Also, my I did not at all feel that my sex life was lacking. In fact, it was better than usual. (smirk.)

But, I tell ya, the crappy economy and lack of money is affecting my desire for sex...

Most people don't realize it, but the birthrate went way down during the Great Depression. And you didn't even have modern birth control, much less abortion. Just condoms and precious little else.

People must have been a little more responsible then. If they couldn't afford to take care of a kid, they didn't do anything that would make a kid. Duhhhhhh

People, you gotta remember.....
USE IT OR LOSE IT
especially the guys, and I mean this, when the time comes, the ability may not be there.

As one poster said, "I don't understand the concept."

Guys who like sports.....do you stop watching for five years because your team lost a big game or you have other goals?
Women who like to shop....do you just stop, to renew yourself?
People who like museums, beaches, music.....do you avoid it to punish yourselves?

I really don't get the concept.

And regarding the woman who mentioned the third hymen, I actually know someone
who had that problem that was surgically reopened, the vagina actually sealed itself.

complete abstinance isnt likely unless a coma is involved but I have voluntarily spent over a year without partially for the same reason as others have touched on.. to get back to myself but equally important to me is to both honor your past and whatever commitment you felt to the person you were with.. its a character issue
we determine what we are worth by our actions , the possibilities two people can explore are endless and the potential of combining the physical ,mental and emotional/spiritual energies is limited only by the time you both invest.
I want to bring the best of me and inspire the same..unless i am comfortable that only my partner is in front of me..how can the division of concentration not be a deterrent?

how long does it take to regain your ability to totally focus?

as far as losing anything from a male perspective..absolute confidence in yourself can only be performance related.. its up to you to resolve that issue

If you know you are doing everything possible to share your best , if that isnt enough what more could you have done? doing your best outfront means you don't have to divide your attention into doer and watcher .. thats really bad math

Distracting rather than delivering

Hmmm...I would love to see a medical article on such, because it is my believe that there is NO WAY for a hymen to regenerate or reproduce itself. In fact, there IS a surgery to recreate the hymen...commonly performed on women in certain religions where they are "unmarriageable" if not virgins.

I am thinking your friend had some surgery to tighten her vagina and simply told others, differently? (nothing wrong with such, but still!)

I would still prefer to see a legit medical document on this whole second, third, etc hymen! LOL

Sorry...but there is regeneration surgery...there is "rejuventation" processes...and there is even the possibility of the hymen being so elastic in some (few) that it is not actually broken, but stretched with sexual penetration.

But in reality...and with allll the searches I have done out of curiousity LOL...they pretty much compare it to male circumcision, and the foreskin "growing back." LOL

Well yes,I think that scar tissue grows across and seals the area, I don't think it is a
functioning original hymen! Not like growing a new organ or anything!

I guess it is a little easier to love something that is not in your face and around all the time, no?

Yeah, sure....I love my ex husband and I would cry if he...died. LOL We have been divorced for 19 years TODAY of course....

I did, for nearly 6 years. It went fine and was entirely worth it. I have no regrets for having done it other than now, I do feel somewhat that I made a life choice to lose much of my sexuality during that time - but my desire was to focus on raising my children and being an excellent Mom. Not a woman. My time for that is now, and I'm fine with having made the choices I made.
