But.... but... what if they're HUGE shelves?
(alright, they're not)

Would you believe that someone broke in and stole, like, half of my horror movies just before I posted this?

*shifty eyes*

*eyes rolling slightly, slowly glazing over with lips in a tight smirk*

Yeah i totally can believe it, lol.

As a woman who loves horror movies, i've actually encountered a LOT of men who DON'T like them. It's so weird.

^^^ Same here! Even the "mildly scary, fun" category of horror films, my favorite (The Thing, Poltergeist, Shaun, etc.). I get guys who initiate contact only to advise me that they dislike scary movies, dislike movies in general, or "havn't seen a movie in years". Then they can't understand why I won't meet them. Oh, brother!

Yes, definitely.
I could never be with a man who considers this entertainment.

Watching the gruesome dismembering of a human or sadistic torture of another is not entertainment. I can see some teenagers liking this tripe but adults? No way.

Typical ignorant comment from non-horror film watcher. Be careful when you're coming down off of your high horse and don't step in your own crap.

Yeah, if watching (usually) beautiful young girls being made to suffer, raped, tortured, and murdered is what you enjoy; I just don't think we're gonna have much in common...at all, ever... Horrifying...

It's amazing how people that don't watch horror films think they know what all horror films contain.

I don't like torture porn. Didn't realize there was a name for it. I even have trouble with Seven, a great movie. I suppose my discomfort is in knowing that deranged psycho killers are really out there, vs. purely fictional zombies, ghosts, aliens, and swamp monsters. At Universal Studios (here near Hollyweird), every year the theme park does detailed mazes for Halloween Horror Nights based, most often, on popular films. I love, LOVE certain ones (La Llorona, The Thing, classic monsters) but Saw and certain others are just stressful: human butchering and torture, with pumped in "blood" aroma. Ugh. I usually suffer through them but they aren't fun for me. I'd rather do The Mummy again, or the backlot.

On the other hand, I have friends who enjoy torture porn. They are nice people!

I dont watch horror movies. Stuff like that SAW...omg.. I dont get it. Why would I want to watch that??

Horror movies give me nightmares. I dont even watch the commercials for them and I dont like to listen to them so if I were at home with you Id have to leave the house. But, that's just me. I turn the channel on the tv even for the Horror Night at Universal Studios commercials.. lol

I do however enjoy suspense movies. I did watch the Sixth Sense and Perfect Stranger.. Loved both of them. Loved the plot etc.. but I dont watch gore or horror. So, for me it would end.. if He had to watch them all the time.

Red flag?? Im not sure.. not that he's pyschoo but that I wouldnt want the compatibility with him for his sake because Im not ever going to be into it. Hard limit for me. Seems silly to most I guess.. but I just wont do it...ever.

I LOVE horror movies! Mainly from the 70's and 80's but there have been alot of good ones over the last 20 years. Honestly,I know alot of girls are into horror, but I also think most of them are scared off by it. Persoanlly,I have had a few girls frightened off by my love of horror. I think it's really unfair and maybe even a bit stuck up for some girls to not even give me a look because I love the genre. I think alot of women seem to think that if you love horror then you must be a serial killer. VERY unfair and totally ridiculous.

Lol.. I LOVE horror movies and psychological thrillers, by far my fav genre.

I'd have a much bigger issue with someone who wanted to watch stuff like Austin Powers and the like *shudder*

Should I be ashamed then that Quarantine was one of my favorite movies and I actually liked, "eat, love, pray' That heartless ****! Actually that was also a horror movie now that I think about it. They just didn't show the scene of her cutting her husbands heart out with a knife then flying off to another country to eat it during a ritualistic sacrifice to find herself.

^^^Not at all, I like that movie too - mainly because it focused on figuring yourself out on your own vs. thinking your self worth comes from your relationship status. I'm all for that message. And Quarantine wasn't so bad either. : )

Ok Ok, so people loved Austin Powers, lol.. I didn't and thought it was excruciatingly ridiculous.

My point is that mindless humour drives me up the wall, I'd rather do just about anything than watch something like that. The worst part is when I try to sit through one of these types of movies, other people will be laughing and I'm not.. which is a downright awkward feeling, lol.. yet I frequently laugh at parts in movies that no one else does. Often on my own planet I am, lol..

Back to the horror thing. I went on a date to a movie once and he let me pick- horror of course. He was more scared than I was, jumping in his seat and gripping my arm at times. Kinda disconcerting, lol..

A bit disconcerting, right? Years ago I went with a date to a haunted house type thing, which I usually love….he actually screamed, higher than I ever could. My suspension of disbelief evaporated and I didn’t want to walk out of there with him and have people see us together. Ugh….the guy’s gotta at least appear to be braver than I am, FFS.

Austin Powers is funny to me because it IS ridiculous. I like the Three Stooges for the same reason. :)

I also like good horror that has something to say.

I watch all sort's of movies everything from anger management to the zombie diaries and all of the george romero films. Is this a red flag? I don't think so exuse me.... it puts the lotion in the basket needs food. Lol! I also liked quarantine which is based on a spanish film REC 3. I also liked toy story and The last house on the left. If a person only watched horror films I might find that a little odd.

Wow, some people will find any excuse to label someone with a red flag, pretty sad, if you don't like the genre, then don't watch them, got to love the armchair pycho-analysis, I find the evening news to be more desensitizing to human misery. I watch all kinds of movies, but I love horror/fantasy the best, especially the oldies like Dracula, The Mummy,Frankenstein, Wolfman and anything Vincent Price was in, just something creepy about those old black and white films. High tension, Paul, Shawn of the Dead, Fido, Rec1 and REC2 are some of my favourites, just love that scary feeling watching it with the lights out.

I personally question why anyone in their right mind, male or female, would want to watch something like "Saw" or one of those slasher/gore movies. I've never seen "Saw", & never will, but the poster & short description is enough to turn me off. You have to be de-sensitized to human suffering & violence to watch those, & even more psychologically damaged to actually enjoy them. They're sick, simple as that. Torture porn is what they're called in the movie industry.

Now a well done intelligent "horror" movie or scary flick is alright if you want to get scared, like Alien or the Exorcist or The Ring. But all the gratuitous gore & torture in the other type of movie is overkill, & a substitute for a barely-existent plot.

laidbackguy1964- All this thread proves is that you shouldn't label people and/or be guilty of black/white thinking.
The horror genre is my favorite. I'm not the only woman that loves them. Next are thriller's, then mystery, then action. Movies that manage to pull of a blend of any of these genre's I also love.
Most rom/coms I loath. Even though music is a major passion of mine, I prefer live bands and concerts FAR more than musicals.
The minute you start ASSuming that all women are alike, you've made a major mistake.
Take people as they come along and NEVER assume anything.

I don't mind being wrong and happy to admit to it:)

I enjoy various types of movies including:
Horror movies - Zombie movies - Saw movies - Halloween - and a lot more
Music - Live bands are great...Bob Dylan, Fleetwood mac, bon Jovi...I have many.
Scf-fi - blade runner - the thing - star trek - star wars - and many more
Comedy - Stir crazy - meet the parents - dirty rotten scoundrels -the jerk - and more
Thriller - Get carter - Lock stock and two smoking barrels - Ronin - and many more
Musical - Saturday night fever -flash dance -enjoy the sound track to Saturday night fever
Martial arts - Bruce lee - have all his movies
I have such a vast number of DVDs and Blu-rays - over 1000 easy
I have a lot of sit coms too - Laurel & hardy, cheers - only fools and horses - and more
I am crazy about movies and keep on buying more...I love my collection:)
All my movies are listed on my computer and in Alphabetical order -by actors/actresses and it make's it easy to find one quickly, but also helps me keep track, of how many I have in my collection...I rarely watch television, because I hate adverts and movies being cut to fit a time slot.

Laidbackguy1964- Blade Runner is a timeless classic, as far as sci-fi. I'm not sure it will ever be topped, as far as the feel of it, the vision, the forward thinking, the acting, on and on.
It's one of my all time favorites, of any genre.
Didn't we go past the year it was supposed to be in the movie?
Was it 2014? That part I have forgotten. (Hmmm, may be time to watch it, again)

Ladies, do you equate that to a red flag in a date or boyfriend?

Not at all. Not only do I enjoy horror/slasher films, but I'd equate someone who wanted to cut someone off over any little thing as more of a red flag.

"Get Carter" has two versions, and I have to admit the Stallone version has a wonderful feel to the camera work and sets. but then i'm a sucker for Micheal Mann movies, like "Public Enemies".

I like original Get Cater - starring Michael Caine - Love gritty British Movies - I did not like the re-make, but each to their own....I do like a lot of Stallone movies though, I have the Rocky and Rambo boxsets on DVD
I like British actors and some include - Ray Winstone - Michael Caine - Jason Stanton
Paul Newman was a great actor - Cool hand luke is a great movie and I also like the hustler...I recommend both those movies....
Other movies worth watching - pulp fiction - Faceoff - Aliens - Titanic - The basketball diaries - Very good story about a heroin addict and stars Leonardo DiCaprio - Trainspotting - Another movie about heroin addicts - Harry Brown - stars Michael Caine - Very good and realistic - but not for the weak of heart - violent and graphic

Some good movies mentioned.

My personal preference is to avoid horror movies.
I'm just a wimp most of the time when the walls creak or the wind makes the trees seem far more mobile than trees have a right to be.
I see no need to give up my sleep for several nights.

However, someone else enjoying a horror movie (or a chick flick or a documentary or comedy) is certainly no red flag for me.
I might even see a horror flick with them IF they promise to protect me from things that go bump in the night.
