I've had more than my fair share use the moniker of "pig" when responding to me. Mostly during the 70's and early 80's. I however decided to be proactive and obtained a red tie tac from the national pork association depicting said pig so that upon approaching said commnicator who had the malicious intent of insulting me would realize I had accepted said moniker as a cost of doing business. :)

Nothing wrong with sopping up some pancake syrup with a piece of bacon. :)

It wasn't MY meal, or my post, it was RT'S, and it was NG who challenged you! I just agreed with NG .

But YES, I do think food is more expensive in Canada, as it is in most of EU as well. Part of the benefit of being less socialized and taxed! So that might answer your question, perhaps!

But I also see that you are counting the total price of the food as it comes from the market. I think RT was going by portion cost. Obviously NO one is putting a full pack of bacon into a salad for 2 portions! A lb of bacon would be around 2500 calories in itself. :)

Lets just agree though, that one can cook at home USUALLY for significantly cheaper than going out. I agree with RT here, and trust me it isn't usually easy to agree with him here ;), but objectivity calls for it!

Caveat- LOS VEGAS- 3-4 years ago , One could get a buffet for 5 dollars that included shrimp, Salmon, BACON, and even red meat and all the vegetables, fruit, dessert one wanted if you knew where to go. But I think prices might have doubled now!

Well actually I do know what she is /was talking about. I assumed we straightened it out..BACK then. She made a comment when we were talking about "dating expectations/requirements", months ago. I just wanted to know HOW she meant it, I was too shocked to be offended and was speechless.

I mentioned how I generally expected gals to dress/prepare to fit the occasion on dates going out, she inferred that the attire I expect means they are whores, lol. So basically she was insulting my GF, insulting my deceased wife, insulting my former GF'S, insulting my nieces, insulting the Russian/EE culture (our women tend to dress to impress most of the time), insulted urban Italian culture, insulting a large % of women who live in NYC, Miami, and Las Vegas! LMAO.
Now if she said "they dress like gals of the night"..I would have chuckled and agreed full heartedly :)

But I have learned to do what Romans do when in Rome Crookcatcher. We went to Disney, Orlando a few years ago and they wouldn't let my wife into the theme park because they said she wasn't appropriately dressed ,so she had to buy a pair of Donald Duck shorts for 20 dollars that looked like Daisy Dukes..lol

Things are changing, I was raised that when you go to opera or Broadway you dress up. Now everyone is in sweat pants!

But I told her we were squared away !

PS- I just wondered why so much Bacon was being used, and I am a bit biased since I don't put Bacon on salad lol.

^ This is stupid, and I doubt anyone else cares, but I would never use the term "whore", and never have, in my life, just as I have never referred to a Police Officer as a "Pig". I DID use the term "women of the night", trying to be funny, in your response to being offended if a woman showed up on a formal date and wasn't wearing a combination of high heels and a mini skirt. Probably another cultural difference, like offering a guest canned/frozen vegetables, etc. (Although I too am of Russian decent.) I too have a niece who dresses provocatively, and who men often treat like a piece of meat. I love her dearly, and it weighs on my heart.

For the record: Up here, being a Police Officer is a thankless job, and I often defend them, as they are currently the media's scapegoats.

I have seen the inside of professional kitchens, that is where I learned to cook Italian food at my pops night clubs. They use the CHEAPEST stuff.

Yeah... even though this is kinda off topic, even at popularly seen as Good restaurants they do that. They get their stuff from Gordon Food Service... and an nice Italian joint here in the midwest people would go ga-ga over the bread "Oh, it's so Italy!" they'd say. Yeah, it was good. It also cost pennies a hefty serving, and it came right off the Gordon Food Service truck. And the sauce! Oh, Magnificent they'd say! Yeah, our managers spiced it up. Went all out. They just got store-bought Prego and added their own twist to it. $$ doesn't always equal better. The $$ amount aids in the "ambiance" (spirit fingers!) that makes it taste wonderful.

Kind of like in blind taste tests off-season, Corona beer is always rated the worst. It's kinda like that.

IMHO I think it is worth it,but we discussed this before so I am not going to relive it now :)

Yeah -- I'll add to that though to be fair. It can't hurt for guys who have a decent profile and presentation -- although in a small town or firing off robotic 2nd-messages, "pecker spraying" every gal giving their inboxes another once-over in a non-big city, you run a small risk of running into a Seinfeldian situation (which I have before). But yeah, aside from that it's just the cost of work/time VS reward.

Saved cheese to put on/in a salad? I could just see even a step above Applebees restaurant saying "Add cheese: $8" for a salad. I'd be WTF?

Let's look at a half decent meal that most men would enjoy:

As said before, steak & particular marine life is expected to be more expensive across the board. And it isn't required to have a nice dinner. Chicken Breasts here? A bag of chicken breasts on sale that's not hard to find, great quality -- $10-$12. Enough to feed a nice sized family at dinner, not just 2.

$30 per person plus tax and tip.

And as far as the other stuff -- I'm not saying a nice dinner can't cost more than $20, if one has their heart set on something. It's that one universally seen as nice can very well cost $20 or under, for two. Especially when decent restaurants can make them $30 for 2 (insert profit margin) -- and that's not including Applebees' 2 for $20 dinner deals. :)

Oh, and I should include 2 condoms at $0.50 each -- for "the tip".

I think it's the Hockey Tax... :) But in fairness, I could see them importing more food than making it themselves in igloo weather. But yeah, they do have higher cost on products in general, and a surprisingly high amount in certain areas, although I'm sure some frugal Canadians could chime in on this one. And if they're more socialistic? That's fine. A good experiment to observe/oversee. They have a hell of a lot less crime, pound for pound hotter chicks, and it's real clean up there. To some degree, I wouldn't mind my expenses being a bit higher. Although I will say that when I was in Niagra, I didn't see their prices on food & beer any more expensive than downtown mid-sized midwestern cities. The gal I was having shenanigans with talked about how clothes were more expensive, among other things.

Nationwide, perhaps. But when they list the worlds top cities for hot women the only 2 in North America is NYC and Montreal. Since the NYC metro area is like 23 million, and all of Canada is only 35 million, I would bet when you thrown in Miami, LA, Chicago, etc....in absolute terms we have just as many. Apparently in Montreal they have - you're not going to believe this - electricity! Which means heat. It's not even fair to compare those women to the ones in BC - is it our fault that half of us are missing fingers/toes/noses due to frostbite?? At least we don't have to worry about the price of condoms, as those little germies don't survive in sub zero temperatures.

FYI The only greater scapegoats here than Police Officers (other than politicians) are Child Protection Workers - but at least they earn a living wage.

Almost every other country is more socialistic than the United States. That being said, Canada being more socialist than the U.S.A. is no big deal. Some other countries in northern and western Europe far surpass Canada in this area.

Actually, the low cost of food in the US is the result of taxation and socialism.

There are more food supports and payouts to food producers in the states than anywhere else in the world. It's one of the reasons there are huge problems in Mexico right now. American corporate farms can sell their subsidized corn cheaper in Mexico than a Mexican can grow it. So practically the entire agrarian economy in Mexico was wiped out by American food exports.

$14.95 buys you a very good bottle of wine, tax included, here in my part of Canada. Maybe the vino is the great equalizer, since we seem to pay so much more for our food up here in this arctic wasteland :)

There is a great California/Canada Zinfandel that is pure heaven, for $12.00.

If you 'Murricans ever have a chance to taste our ice wine, I hope you try it! Now that goes for $79 for a half litre, but worth every loonie. Guaranteed to get you kissed!

"Murrican" wine....I had a 2 Buck Chuck in their red last Christmas, great wine, like a nice Shiraz or Malbec..2 bucks. Can't beat that. I don't know what 19 Crimes is selling for in Australia but here it averages at about $17.00 Canadian, nice red.

My go to cook for a guy meal is roast chicken, stuffed plus veg, potatoes and salad. I also serve up the broken bottle wine and for dessert I serve a fresh bowl of low hanging fruit. Lol. Actually, I love to cook and prefer to do the cooking. He can handle the BBQ. Now house cleaning, he can do that. Or, at this stage, hire a cleaner to come in once a week or two. I've done enough toilets, vacuuming, etc.

The original question that started all this mess....I always offer and I like to treat as well. After a half dozen or dozen dates...please let me treat, somemofnus women enjoy treating a man, we also like to show that you are appreciated and worthy.

I agree with user, msg 829, a nice meal at home will run well over $40. Closer to $100 for four persons including a mediocre wine.

As for the food at upscale gourmet restaurants, it is the best that money can buy. They get the finest meats, prime only and everything is fresh. The chefs at top notch restaurants are artists; as such they demand the finest products. Dinner at these upscale eateries will easily run $200 for two - without wine. At the Russian Tea Room in NYC if you start off with their famous caviar you’re already plunking down $300. I know most of us are not going this fancy (except once in a while) but don’t believe that EVERY eatery gets old crappy food or frozen food truck stuff. That is for the chains that someone mentioned like Red Robin and such.

My dinner party was a great success.

Lots and lots of compliments.
Especially about the Soup - One wife told me her husband does not eat pumpkin soup but he licked his bowl clean.
She has asked for my recipe.
Plus he said my pork and crackling was cooked to perfection.
The baked onions were also a hit.

Breakfast this morning was a traditional fry up.
Eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, toast, fruit, coffee and orange juice snazzied up with left over bubbly.


I paid for everything other than the wine and what the ladies brought along. Nibbles, Bread and Xmas cake.

The men sat back, poured wine and ate.

Well put. I'm one of those who eats to live, as it's fuel. I will want to eat, and eat something decently good, when hungry... but I don't live to eat like some folks may do (or pets). If I had a choice to take on a super-human ability to not require eating with supreme nutrition & calorie intake processed automagically, I'd take that in a heart beat -- although I wouldn't choose it over many other super-human abilities like invisibility, the ability to fly, or to watch PPV without being charged.
