As a long time woman rider , gotta put my two cents in.

First, there are many other makes of bikes that women ( and men) ride, besides Harleys.

I've had just about all of 'em over time - including a Harley, along with all styles - cruisers and sportbikes. I love 'em all.

Some men love that I ride - some steer clear . Whatever , their choice (or loss).

I've dated ( and married) some who ride , and some who don't . I'm not an obsessive rider, and don't mind if my man doesn't ride - as long as he supports the fact that I do. I wouldn't be at all happy with periodic lectures on "how dangerous" riding is . LIFE is dangerous.

Seems like most people feel the same way. Their partner needn't do EVERYthing they do - but at least tolerate - or at best , cheer them on !

the brand of bike really isn't the question here.

As long as it isn't the Town Bike....

Well, perhaps the biggest problem could be what kind of sleazebags she hangs out with and calls them friends - Harley or not.

One "idiot" that I was dating for a while last November told me this sweet story about how she learned to ride by taking lessons, etc. To cut a long story short, she ended up watching a porn movie, visiting a sex shop, etc., with the teacher. Now, that's a very sweet, little story and it tells a lot about her integrity and her great character.

Anyway, I just had to squeeze that one in there. No offence to women who are serious about it. :)

I don't have an issue with women on bikes, Harley or not.

Just don't like the attitude some of the 'Check Book Bikers' have, women or men.
If they try and look like something that fell out of 'Easy Riders' or something they saw in the movies, then they usually have 'The Attitude'...

Every Bike Week in Daytona you see people acting like fools.
Guys that look like cat vomit, acting like fools for the week,
Yuppies in 'Christmas Leather' and rolex watches trying to act like 'Bikers',
The idiots trying to act like 'Outlaws', although their entire idea of 'Outlaws' is what they've seen on TV...

Then there is the rest of us, just regular guys that ride a lot getting together after the winter and having a little vacation...

First off, 'Outlaw' bikers are usually sociopaths or out right psychopaths, and I can't imagine what people are thinking when they refer to them as 'Cool' or someone to be admired or imitated.

Then there are the 'Yuppie' bikers that think the sun rises and sets with them and just like when they are in their SUVs, they thing the rules don't apply to them,

Then you run into the 'Misguided' folks that think a bike makes them part of a 'Brotherhood' or makes them look tougher...
Those folks are usually the guys that got Mom & Dad to co-sign the loan or write a check for the 'Chopper', so chromed out factory bike...

Then there are the guys like us,
Just plain old folks going on vacation and riding bikes.
We don't get stinking drunk or stoned, we don't start fights, we don't raise hell at the motel/hotel or campgrounds...

We try and ride safe and follow the rules/laws and just have fun without the police mistaking us for the morons with 'Issues'...

I taught several women how to ride, about half of them copped 'The Attitude', and the other half stayed grounded in the real world.

I think women on bikes is great, and everyone that thinks they would enjoy riding should take the classes, learn to handle the bike in a safe and reasonable manner and have fun!

If anything thinks a bike makes them 'Cool', 'Tough' or 'An Outlaw' they are deluded from the start!
You won't see the 'Real Bikers' with 'Harley Davidson' tattoos everywhere, wearing leather advertising Harley or anything else...
That should be a GIANT RED FLAG right there if they identify a brand name with 'Cool' or 'Tough'!

I have several 'Muscle' cars and several bikes, including 6 Harleys, and you won't find me advertising Harley or anything else on my skin, or on my clothing unless Harley wants to sponsor me!
If they put enough cash in my pocket, I'll advertise Harley!

I do wear leather and boots, anyone that rides that doesn't wear leather and boots is an idiot and doesn't know the meaning of 'Road Rash'!

The entire 'Skull' thing is beyond me,
And you won't see me wearing two or three knives exposed to try and intimidate people right from the start...
I put between 10,000 to 15,000 miles on my bikes every year, so I'm what most people would call a 'Serious' rider.
If we didn't have 5 months of bad weather (Cold, Snow, Ice, Rain) here, I would put more miles on the bike, but my old bones won't take that kind of abuse anymore!

If you want to ride, then have fun, but don't expect a rider to be any different than anyone else, but you can expect about half the big bike riders to be a little imbalanced because they think it's some kind of status symbol...
Those are the ones you have to watch for!

I dislike Harleys. They're all about image, noise and rebel wannabees. They have no substance.

And I hate them more every time some 1diot with unrestricted straight pipes goes by and you can't even talk to the person next to you because the thing is so 1diotically loud.

At least with Japanese sport bikes there's some real technology and quality present.

With a Harley, the "quality" is basically how much chrome you've got.

The only good thing I can say about them is that the newer ones don't leak oil the way the old ones used to.

To me, a chick on a Harley just tells me she doesn't know squat about which motorcycles are good and which ones aren't... OR she has no taste.

I concur. also , most I've ever had any interaction with think they're tough, bad-ass bytches because they're on a harley -just like many of the guys who ride them.

Most women who enjoy riding Harleys are akin to enjoying the image of being a "bad girl' much like a man who enjoys being a 'bad boy'...they`re simply looking at themselves in a different light and are very indepent thinkers.

VVV

hahah , they are such 'independent thinkers' that they HAVE to get a Harley -because people tell them Japanese bikes are "jap scrap', rice burners, etc., etc., and they HAVE to get all the 'look' leathers, chaps, etc.., etc. just like all the other biker chicks ;)

VVVVV.

Well for starters most women who own a Harley are not overweight. Many own their own business, and have great professions.
Most women who enjoy riding Harleys are akin to enjoying the image of being a "bad girl' much like a man who enjoys being a 'bad boy'...they`re simply looking at themselves in a different light and are very Independent thinkers and think out of the box.
Majority are very cool and good natured... Although, i don`t ride anymore i have dated a few women who enjoy riding. basically, they prefer a man who is a man and knows how to take control in private. Thats a must...They like to play tough, act tough but, deep down are the biggest **** cats you`ve ever seen.. talk about loving the word domination... They really "get off" on that!
I admit many men can`t handle a biker chick. If you can, they`re truly are alot fun and enjoyable.... As for their own clicks or circle of friends,i`ve never had any issues being welcomed into the crowd. It`s like the old saying goes "mi casa es su casa".....You`re like a throphy to them and they love showing their man off...:)

You've obviously not been to bike week in Laconia in a while. While I can't claim
to know the "majority" of harley bike riders, I can say there are good and bad in
every social circle and sadly the worst of the bike riders (whether they ride harleys
or not) get the reputation others have to live down.

With that said, I would think that a woman who rides a bike other than a harley
would be an "independent thinker" and decidely "thinks outside the box."

What is the attraction of women to Harleys is it because it is the latest status symbol that gives you that edgy image or is it as simple as wanting to wrap your legs around something that goes thump thump thump and vibrates at the same time

Interesting that some think that people who ride bikes on weekends are wanna be's. Forget the wind in your face on the open road, stress release it provides, and the time it gives you to think. It's all a farse. Guess I'll just sit in my chair here and be a wanna be fat arse........... screw that, I'm goin' riding!!!!

I have ridden motorcycles since I was about 7 years of age.
17 years as part of my job. Loved it.
I have owned just about all brands and styles.
I love them all. (excpet MotoGuzzi..hated that bike for police work..grrr)

However, I can NOT stand the posers..those who put on all the leather, just for the 'look', with all the pins, dodads, and what not. Nor do I like those who trailer their bikes, regardless of what brand, to some venue and then party up. Weekend warriors..fine with me, as long as they don't act like they just rode an Iron Butt Saddle Sore, and all they did was ride from one bar to the next..geezz.

Women who ride? Great! As long as they are not brand-brained.

who' s to call anyone a poser ...whats wrong with putting on the leather ..I showed horses for years ...wore boots and hat and even wore chaps did that make me a want to be cowboy ..dont think so ...I dont see that the outlaw bikers own the leather and pins and dodad look...hell It must be me your calling a poser pingshooter I even trailer my bikes to bike rallies . why because I take the whole family and the camping gear and other things that haul better in a pickup ... but most times we just haul one bike the driver of the pickup hauls his bike and sometimes we swap drivers and another one loads up his bike ..so everyone gets some riding

and more than one time having a trailer has saved the day ...Harley's do break down too..even though my Honda never has ...there are 3 riders that I have stopped and loaded their bikes ..and hauled them to the nearest Harley shop ...they had no problem with their Harley riding on the trailer with my Honda ..and I didn't hear them call me a poser

Horrid, if I wanted to date a man, I... well there's no way in hell I would let's put it that way. I really don't understand the attraction some guys have to women with guns or on motorcycles or what have you, must be some kind of masochistic weirdness behind it...

It would seem a lot of women in their 50s
and 60s are Harley riders and they
want a guy who does the same thing.
I'm not going to buy a Harley just to
date one.....not yet anyway ! lol
Hobbies that are religions can bring you
together and can also cause breakups
or hurt you or kill you or cost a lot when
you break the toys.....but that's all cool !

Boy, I just realized that thread died back
in 2010...sorry ! lol

I like women who ride, but the stereotypical Hardly Ableson rider probably not. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the brand, other than the fact that they tend to be over weight and under powered (the motorcycle, not the rider). It's the mindset many owners put on display.

@ 143 I agree. I like female bikers too. LOL. Some of them are pretty hot. Even the not so hot ones are cool to hang out with. Unfortunately, 2 friends have been seriously injured on "Hardly Abelsons". That's a "buzz kill". Why push the envelope? Hanging out in Daytona for spring and fall bike weeks is a great way for me to vicariously live out my "biker days".

Never dated a Harley rider. Have spent some time with women who rarely ride a motorcycle, probably renting an efficient "rice burner".

Harley-Davidson apparel is the LEAST appealing clothing I can think of for anyone to wear. Shilling for a big corporation, flaunting a "lifestyle" with a lot of negative associations.

On here, motorcycles seem to be a polarizing issue. I have messaged only 2 or 3 who have motorcycles as an interest, and those were in spite of having that as an interest. One reason is there are a zillion biker dudes on here and she probably gets lots of messages from those guys who might be more compatible.

I might give a second look to a pretty girl on a Vespa.

Both here and in real life, gals who ride often seem too busy for a relationship.

I can't believe all the generalizations on this thread. What a crock.

Women (and men) ride what they want to ride or they don't ride at all. Who cares? It's a hobby/interest. It's not my life, it's just something I do for pleasure. They type of bike really has nothing to do with it - I know idiots that ride hondas and I know idiots that ride harleys - so what. I even know idiots that don't ride at all.

"Both here and in real life, gals who ride often seem too busy for a relationship." Another crock of shit. What about those that golf or hunt or fish or go to dog shows or play bingo or shop or quad or ski or jog - SOME seem to have time for their hobby and their relationships while SOME put their activities or work ahead of their relationships. Why knock one activity and not others?

Doesn't matter if it's a Harley... Harley snobs are annoying... As long as it has two wheels and an engine!
Lady riders are just the kind of lady I look for! Yes it's still sexy if they are rollin the moped or scooter! As far as the rider culture thing goes.... I have more friends that don't ride than do. People are very judgmental of people who ride. A lady rider is still a lady 1st, most of the lady riders I've met are very approachable.

Man . . thats all up to you, and never mind the "harley riders are snobs" line.
They really don't know a lot of hard core old school riders.
Over half of em have never had to repair a bike on the road . . or STOPPED for a biker on the side of the road.

Now back on topic . . .
DON'T think your ever going to talk her out of it, and if you have control or self determination issues your not going to do well.
Women still face a bit of prejudice when riding, though that is changing. I know an increasing number of women riders, and most of them are a blast to be around.
One of the most intelligent women I've ever met online rides. Shes got a BEAUTIFUL 70sShovelhead that she mostly built her self. Her husbands a kick in the butt, too, and they often take their young daughter riding with them.
Riding - really riding is a lifestyle. If shes serious about riding, you'd better learn to ride (you'd look silly on the p-pad), or think twice.
Shes not likely to stop riding for you, and she's likely to rip your head of if her riding causes you issues.

Maybe not what you want to hear . . but simple reality.

Girls who ride motorcycles are sexy. It is that simple. Harley does make some nice bikes. Expensive. But they hold their value well.

OP, if you have any questions about the life style you can message me. I rode a Harley for 8 years, I started w/a Sportster & upgraded to a Dyna Low Rider. I'm on haitus, undecided if I'll return to it. I'm not fat, quiet the opposite, I'm slender & I work out on a regular basis. I don't have any tats, well maybe 1 but it's hidden & you have to now me intimately to see it, lol. I'm also very feminine, I just have a hobby dominated by men. I don't fit the biker chick stereotype. Bikers are a close knit group, at times I was the only girl riding w/15 or 20 guys, all treated me w/respect, & were protective of me. The majority of bikers are regular ppl who have a different kind of hobby. There is a biker ediquette, & it's best to know & follow it. I've mixed w/all types of bikers. A man dating a biker has to be understanding she'll be gone riding for the day. Biker events can get wild. Biker/non biker relationships take work, just like every other type of relationship. A jealous guy isn't going to last if she rides w/other guys & he objects to that. I don't f*ck where I ride, to be blunt. I'm a female, riding as a guest in a club, so it's better for me if I don't date within that club, as a breakup would jepordize my invitation to ride if the ex objected to my presence, as women aren't members. That's just the way it is. There is only a few good months of riding weather in Chicago, which gives lots of time to do other activites together.

There was this stretch of scenic road that I was driving on, and no joke, there were bikers, and friends of bikers delibereately slowing down and backing up traffic for MILES
There was a Van in front of me, going around 10 to 20 mph on a road that has a limit of 45.
There was a guy on a Hawg taking his sweet time in front of his friend's van, even swerving back and forth in the lane like a show off. lol
It's like they were "owning" the road for themselves, if a police officer had been there, he'd definately would've wrote them up.
I was wondering wondering if this was some kind of biker thing though, because I was suprised they had the audacity to do such thing? LOL

The van probably cut off one of the bikes, so they were teaching him a lesson. We had a mini van cut into our group, nearly side swiping several bikes since he decided he wanted to be in our lane, in the middle of our formation, while the rest of the road was wide open to him to drive wherever he wanted. There were 6 bikes, all w/loud pipes, riding close together in proper formation, so he heard & saw us. We were in his way, so he attempted to drive his minian into us. Luckily evasive manuvers kept us from getting hurt, but he could have seriously injured or killed us, b/c he is stupid ignorant & has no business behind the wheel. So, 2 bikes got in front of the minivan & slowed his azz down, & drove 10 mph in front of him down the road. So I'm guessing something like that happened in your situation.

I'm not sure what makes a formation correct, but I prefer that other riders stay a safe stopping distance behind me and not ride next to me in the same lane.

When a large group of cyclists rides in formation and causes traffic to back up behind them, they are creating an unsafe situation.

I got a minivan but I don't tell dates I have a boat. I just tell them I have a minivan and see where they take it.

I stay away from wannabe biker ****es because I don't wanna pay for their leather.

I will buy chaps for chicks who wanna ride horses and work on their reverse cowgirl.
