Ya know what just struck me as kinda funny. We walk around all the time and see, quarters, nickels, pennies and such on the ground. When we pick those up and pocket them, we don't think anything of it. But when it comes to paper money, that seems to make the difference. I know if I lost $20.00, I would just figure it was gone. It would hurt, but how many really would return it? First you would have to know for sure where ya lost it at

Hallie, sorry to hear about that party thread. Seems to be happening all over lately for what ever reasons

The story your father taught you was sweet

I will 'never' forget that story Hallie, and many more!!

walk around all the time and see, quarters, nickels, pennies and such on the ground.

^^^ You know all those coins we see on the ground adds up!!
I took 2 of my grandkids on a very nice vacation last year on 'coins' that I saved,of course I gave the kids the job of counting them and putting them into rolls (that helps them learn Math)!!! I take advantage of any situation I can to teach my kids (grown now) and my grandkids!! I think I am a smart Grandma!!! LOL
I never spend my coins(except pennies for tax),I always break a dollar just so I get coins back and I throw them in my 'piggy' bank and save up for fun times!!!

All this talk about saving your coins and how they ADD up, reminded me of something!!!

I am sorry that I do not remember WHO to give the credit to, but I read not too terribly long ago, the following (I'm paraphrasing it):

"I use to just see a penny on the ground and just pass it up thinking "it is JUST a penny'! I wouldn't bother to stoop down to pick it up! I was walking along someone the other day who stooped down to pick up a penny! I commented that 'why bother' how much is a penny worth these days??? The person held the penney in their hand and said to me: "Every Penny has the words IN GOD WE TRUST on it. I will never knowingly walk on or ignore a penny."!!!

I know that story is a bit 'shmaltzy', but I have never been able to NOT pick up a penny since!!!!

Last week I saw a wad of money at one of the food places in the food court at THE HARD ROCK HOTEL AND CASINO ..it was on the floor...and near a guy with a big bandage on his ear??? who looked befuddled and was going thru his pockets...I figured it was his and pointed it out and he scooped it up and didn't even say thanks LOL

I GUESS it was his ...however later I thought...uh oh..maybe some other person dropped it and I just "gave it away" to the guy?? well with the huge ear bandage I guess he needed it

as for the $20 you found...hard to say , depends on the size of the office building.
perhaps the receptionist will help?? "did anyone loose anything"?

or you could always give it to your favorite charity?

Recently I read about an odd finders/keepers situation, in the UK : a couple found a winning lottery ticket...the woman who lost it was able to sue for half the money
It was not a HUGE prize *(about $80 US $$ ) and the woman who lost the ticket is getting about $40k ...
that seemed pretty odd to me....not sure where "finders keepers" starts and ends

Hallie - that is my point. We pick up change from the ground and think nothing of trying to find it's rightful owner. Yes, it does all add up. Not even sure if we found just a $1.00 bill, that we would try to find the owner, but somewhere down the line, it becomes an issue. So, my question would be, where do you draw the line??? $5.00, $10.00 or what????

...I once found a 100$ bill half buried in the sand, waving at me from the tideal motion 5' under water, with teeny barnacles on it,while I was snorkeling at south Lido beach. At first I thought it was a 1000$ bill (wishful thinking)it had a '56 print date, and thought it might be worth more so took it to a coin shop, nope worth only 100 buck's. I kept it, bought the bird's some food and had a great dinner date.....keep it Hallie.

Jim - Jewelry would really be a different matter indeed. Jewelry, whether it be costly or not, may have sentimental value to the owner. If that is the case, it can never be replaced. You did the RIGHT thing!!

I figure these are my options:

(1) Keep it.
(2) Ask the building receptionist to let me know if anyone tells her they lost $20.
(3) Give it to the police.
(4) Put up a sign.

Yor forgot the best option Hallie, take your friend Hal out to lunch

Hal, I couldn't button my pants this morning, and I know it's not because I'm preggers!

I hope you're not trying to say you've gained weight, Remember I saw you last week in that slinky black dress, And if you remember I sang both "Pretty Woman" and "Tush" to you. If you have gained weight, believe me it went to all the right places

I'd spend it on advertisements, about $20 worth then place them all over town.

Hi Hallie. Just wanted to say that I was LUCKY to find a $20.00 bill in my front pocket of my jean skirt. I thought of you and this thread when I found it. I was trying to remember why I had placed it there and where I was when I obtained it.
I couldn't remember, but it went into the billfold section of my wallet and, I'm $20.00 richer today....LOL
I guess I'll use it on a bottle of J. Lohr Cabernet since I'm partial to THAT wine now.

This reminds me of the first week of the Florida lotto. One of the TV stations from Tampa was interviewing people at one of the ticket booths and was asking "what would you do if you won the lotto?" one old man replied, "I wouldn't tell you".

Try Gnarly Head Cab

Hey Hallie: THANKS...but tell me MORE about this wine.
Any particular vintage? Is it a Chilean wine or where does it come from?
I'd appreciate any facts or descriptions about it. I have a Publix close to home, so I will definitely check it out or, there IS a Crown Liquor store in the same shopping center as well. Fresh Market; however, is quite out of the way for me.

Hope things are going well for you. Drop me a line sometime.

I would do what the Steve Miller Band says in one of it's songs: " Go on, take the money and run".

Jim, I think it comes in a box with a straw taped to the side and instead of a vintage year it has a time stamp on the box along with a sell by date.

I gave you the website to gnarlyhead.com so you can look up the WHINE yourself if you're that interested.

The fact is there are very few things in life that I am LESS interested in than wine AND whine. I'm sorry you are having a bad day, Hallie. Maybe if you reread the posts in a few days you will see the humor.

Hallie:

I found the Gnarly Head Cab and bought a bottle, but as yet have not tried it.
I'll let you know what I think when I do.

Tonight ISN'T going to be the night...I think tomorrow with the country-style ribs as I have to marinate them overnight with all the seasonings that Charon recommended on another thread since I could ONLY find fresh mint leaves instead of dried ones.

Anyway....I enjoy FINE wines; especially red, but a friend gave me a bottle of Pinot Grigio that is fantastic. She had bought a case directly from their website as it isn't found in stores, apparently.

BTW....I found two crumpled up $5.00 bills in one of my jeans pockets yesterday Hallie. It wasn't a $20, but it SURE was something.
"Someone" up there likes me....LOL

Keep the $20 and don't worry about it, if someone around you lost $20 you'll hear about it. Tell the receptionist and there's a good chance she'll tell someone she's just made friends with and they'll split the money. You didn't do wrong picking it up. Stop making yourself feel guilty.

Twenty bucks? I'd take a quick look around before stashing it in my pocket.
Then I'd thank my lucky stars and consider it a good day. hmm than maybe just maybe, I'd give the waitrer /ress a little extra tip
