They are showing online for hours & says it's not them doing it? It's automatic honey????Page 3 of 4    (1, 2, 3, 4)

This has absolutly NOTHING to do with staying logged on or whatnot.

It does have something to do with it... Purely because the computer may say you are ON when actually you are not.

I think it has to do with honesty of the person myself. People for the most part lie or don't lie...However, in a computer age, and LORD knows the insecurity/paranoid level of internet dating, one more hurdle for those that really care.
..
.....Hummmm the computer says he/she is on-line... but they say they are not...

Oh what a...LIAR...toss them back...

Why were you checking up on him? You were online, too. And this was after one meeting? If someone was monitoring my computer activity, they'd be history.

You can set a keyboard stuffer to "tickle" and you can define what that tickle is. A simple loop of sending the "Back" key will force POF in to displaying the previous (History) web page. You then put in a delay and then send the "Next" key value to go to the page you just left.
Which would be considered deliberate user interacton...

very easy to do. and there's even simpler ways then what the geek above said.

being 'online' all the time doesn't mean you're actually always browsing. I appear to be online quite a bit but its usually to check these forums while bored at work, or reply to a quick email. it will keep your status logged in for approx 15min a pop even if you log out after 5 seconds. do this 10times a day it looks like youre online all the time.

ps: the guy probably lied, but still. if you care that much after 1 meet, he's better off.

all my boards are on auto log in, its not that difficult to do,
and an F5 refresh on a screen saved 8 minute is all you really need
(because I hate relogging in after I have gotten up, ate, gone to the gym, or maybe rebell rousing in another window )

The OP has been gone for almost 2 yrs. It does seem like the date she had with the next guy must've turned into something really good since she took down her profile soon after.

I guess when it comes to this site, you just have to assume that the majority of people on here are time wasters and game players. Neither one of those are good. It might not matter to some, but to me, my time is finite and I really don't like wasting playing games with people. Either you're looking for something long term or you're not.

I was chatting to a guy for a few days. Now across from his name there is not a envelope or the time he was on. I can still send e-mails. Does this mean I am deleted? I do not have a premium membership so I really don't know. Any advise?

No it doesn't mean you've been "deleted". If there is no time beside his name on your inbox, it simply means that he's been offline for over 24 hours.

Envelopes indicate a new message. So he hasn't sent you a new message.

A smaller envelope with a swirly arrow indicates that you've returned his message.

You don't need premium membership for any of this stuff.

Dear Unique,

I'm a female and have been on and off of here for a while. I learned that if I check my messages from my phone, it will sometimes not log me out properly. I've been accused of being logged in for hours when quite honestly, I don't have that kind of time. The only times I may be on here for an extended period of time is when I'm uploading new photos or editing my profile (or writing a novel in the forum.) Sometimes after a good date, I go home and pull up that guys site to re-read his profile and look at the pics again. Also, I'm not conviced this site isn't up to some trickery too creating the appearance that they're logged on long after they no longer are. Whoever wrote 15 minutes...that's a bunch of huey. I have a male friend on here that recently sent me an email that said "Aren't you going to get in trouble checking your website from work?" When in all actuality, I had not been on here since the prior night...10 hours earlier.

Anyway, not saying your guy is not a player...I believe most guys on here are. Unfortunate for those of us that are looking for something meaningful.

Good luck! :)

Not huey unless it's one of the frequent site server glitches these days..
POF servers are normally set to time you out after 15-20 minutes of no new activity..
IF your phone app has some kind of a default auto-refresh, then it COULD keep you showing "online" to others..

IF your "friend" didn't refresh his browser, on HIS computer his POF window could show you as still green all day.. As he wonders about you and those "bad boys"..

OK ... not so fast.

I was just accused by a woman of being online all morning and not send her an email. In fact my computer was powered on but I was not logged into PoF. She says she saw me online at 8:45, 9:30, 10:30 and I never logged in today until noon. I suspect PoF is keeping ID showing as logged in when they are not to generate traffic and I'm pissed.

Aside from the fact that we hadn't met and she was already accusing me of things I didn't do this showing people online when they are not has to stop and I sent PoF a message. I suspect it might have to do with closing the browser tab or window without logging out but I'm not certain. Either way PoF should no when there is not an active logged in connection. Banks know and time you out and log you out after at set amount of time so it can be done. PoF needs to fix this ASAP.

Well... I know a good deal about conserving server time. Do you think that the brilliant Markus, the founder of this site, would allow all of us to just set our computers up to stay automatically logged into the site for hours???

Not being super computer savvy, I don't know for sure how all of this works, but I have called people on my home phone 30 minutes AFTER I signed off here, and they tell me the site shows me as being logged on, and I have had people tell me that the mobile app on their cellphone shows them being on all the time when they are not.

Unique28173.........I understand how you can think he is lying but from one woman to another.......he might be telling the truth. I have an android Galaxy S phone whereupon I can manage my apps to store my info in such a way that I stay logged into everything all the time. I do this because I don't like having to use the tiny keyboard on the phone to log into everything when I just want to quickly check email. It makes me look like I am always online, but I can assure you I am not. He probably is doing the same thing or something similar. I also do it on my laptop because I don't like constantly logging into everything all the time. I just want you to know from another woman that it is indeed possible. Good luck and take care.

Pretty sure the iPhone app keeps you logged in as online, I know you show up in mobil part, but it only signs you out if your iPhone turns off, not sure maybe macs do that as well but you are right the web site on a pc with most browsers usually log you out after 30 min of server inactivity

Bingo!

I don't have anyone complaining when I am on here, however, I was using the Android phone app, took a call from my brother, conversed, and about an hour later tried to get on via my laptop..to find out I was already logged on.

May sound funny, but a friend of mine created a dating site. and one thing he had programmers do was 'keep' someone online whose profile got a lot of looksees. it promoted business for him, and kept the site growing. I have had times someone I conversed with telling me they saw me online on a day I KNEW I wasn't cause I was in dentist chair at time he said I was there. And I don't have iphone or iapp. I only log on to system from my home laptop. Guarantee it was not in the dentist chair with me.

It's NOT you business one way or the other & you shouldn't have even inquired, ESPECIALLY since you were doing the same thing. So who's the real game player here. He who didn't want to put you off by telling you he was looking at other potentials & answering emails or you who spoofed him & had the audacity to quiz him over it.

Oh & FYI.... A date & it was only a meet & greet, doesn't make you THE date. GROW UP!

could be he never logged off for whatever reasons
could be he has more than one account
here or on other dating sites
could be he just finds it easier to stay logged in
could be he does not feel like he needs to be exclusive with you
or does not feel like you are the one for him
some of these dating sites just have features that let you go invisible anyhow
instead of deleting your account
so even if he claims he has deleted it just for you? ya he might be lying
