So far there's only been one that no matter how much of a train wreck our interactions have been, I seem to be forever instantaneously drawn to him both sexually and emotionally.

Scares me more than anything else. Don't like feeling that vulnerable especially when there's no logical reason for it.

Ah, yes. Longing. Isn't that what this thread is about? One of my favorite poets, Rainer Maria Rilke, spent almost his entire life as a poet passionately exploring and coming to grips with the idea of longing. As a matter of fact, he wrote what I believe to be his greatest contribution to literary culture in a series of ten longer poems called "The Duino Elegies", which almost exclusively dealt with this one theme. It took him forever to write, was written in fits and starts, with long delays in between, as he wrestled the beast of longing that oftentimes got the best of him.

He seemed to think that one couldn't come fully to grips with the idea of longing until one had stripped it of a lifetime of accumulated associations, until it had become but an open door to an empty shack. How we want someone to fill it. How we long for our beloved.

Fascinating theme to me. That peculiar consciousness we possess of having been thrown into a world in which we never quite feel at home. I oftentimes reread the ninth "Elegy", in translation, of course...

Here is the time for the sayable, here is its homeland.
Speak and bear witness. More than ever
the Things that we might experience are vanishing, for
what crowds them out and replaces them is an imageless act.
An act under a shell, which easily cracks open as soon as
the business inside outgrows it and seeks new limits.
Between the hammers our heart
endures, just as the tongue does
between the teeth and, despite that,
still is able to praise.

Praise this world to the angel, not the unsaybale one,
you can't impress him with glorious emotion; in the universe
where he feels more powerfully, you are a novice. So show him
something simple which, formed over generations,
lives as our own, near our hand and within our gaze.
Tell him of Things. He will stand astonished; as you stood
by the rope-maker in Rome or the potter along the Nile.
Show him how happy a Thing can be, how innocent and ours,
how even lamenting grief purely decides to take form,
serves as a Thing, or dies into a Thing..., and blissfully
escapes far beyond the violin...And these Things,
which live by perishing, know you are praising them; transient,
they look to us for deliverance: us, the most transient of all.
They want us to change them, utterly, in our invisible heart,
within...oh endlessly...within us! Whoever we may be at last.

Earth, isn't this what you want: to arise within us,
invisible? Isn't it your dream
to be wholly invisible someday?...O' Earth: invisible!
What, if not transformation, is your urgent command?
Earth, my dearest, I will. Oh believe me, you no longer
need your springtimes to win me over...one of them,
ah, even one, is already too much for my blood.
Unspeakably I have belonged to you, from the first.
You were always right, and your holiest inspiration
is our intimate companion. Death.

Look, I am living. On what? neither childhood nor future
grows any smaller....Superabundant being
wells up in my heart.

Do you still believe there is a Best you've ever had?

Well, hell yeah. But it was not just one person.

I can vividly recall the best for BJs that I ever had. In fact I put up with her stupid neurotic ramblings for almost 3 months, just because of her BJs.

I can also recall the best of many other singular item experiences that I have had. Not sure how far I can go in the descriptions, but the best missionary-style copulation I had was not with the best BJ woman.

Same for cowgirl, different woman again but an expert at that specific art and only mediocre to good with the rest of her skills.

I am not naive enough to believe I will ever find the perfect woman who is excellent at all disciplines to be the "Best everything I ever had." Nor do I believe I am excellent in all sexual disciplines. The ones I have studied and practiced I am damned good at, but I am sure the opinions would vary on my performances too.

hey soldier...

what you haven't missed out on is a sense of humour...

and that may eventually win you poetic justice...

in the name of the best of everything...

("blow job"...that description has never made sense to me....unless i've been doing "it" wrong all these years)

^^^ Reminds of the caption to a great Gahan Wilson cartoon years ago....

Overheard through a hotel room window....

"Suck, Ethel, Suck! Blow is just a euphemism!"

Sorry...I just couldn't resist....

I think if you're not with "the best" you should move on and keep on looking, otherwise you're settling. I was fortunate enough to meet my best about 18 months ago on this site. (I know it's the best cos she always makes my toes curl.)

..Yes, the last was the best I ever had. I waited for him my whole life and when I found him, he was broken. And I couldn't fix him.

The best is...what I am experiencing now. In my wisdon, I have learned how to control my emotions, my past experiences have made me a better lover, I can still be spontaneous in my romantic dealings and be childlike with my love one.

I have yet to come across a "best before date" on any ladie's behind and the last time I look in a mirror I have no stamp of any kind on mine. So please stop looking at your past as "the best you ever had" and work on your future and the best that it can be.

Yes.

As far as being able to give of myself sexually. If we're talking about other ways of relating, it was a little unsure.

Yes, I can say that one particular man was the best I'd ever had up to now. Will I ever find that again? Hopefully, and with whatever new characteristics the new man brings into the mix.

The man I mention in the first sentence could calm my moods just by looking at me a certain way. He knew when to speak and when to just listen. He was funny, fun, and adventurous. He was, by far, the most sensual man I have ever been with, romantically or otherwise.
