I am learning, so in the music industry the execs decide to pick the crappier bands and back them , figuring they will make more money from crappy bands than from the good ones? OK
does that strategy apply in the movie biz too? well seeing some the of the actors/actresses out here in 'major motion pictures' perhaps it indeed does, as well as how bad some major releases are.
I've got it! avoid the really good bands, good actors, etc. get the crrappy ones on board -the way to success
does apply to most businesses in some degree, e.g. the people promoted to management are not always/necessarily the most qualified
hope it doesn't apply too much in the medical field, that hospitals seek out the worst doctors to have on staff, etc.

How many sh1t items on the market out sell their superior counterparts?
PC over Mac
Ford over just about anything they out sell
Gasoline over Diesel
If you live in Canada, Bell or Rogers mobile service over the little guys
I'm sure there's more but I don't need to elaborate.
Sales are dependant on quality, they dependant on marketing.

true, I think I am getting a recording contract next week because I am a horrible musician.
in other words, people in general, are stupid is basically what you are saying - they will buy heavily marketed sh1t and not buy under-marketed awesome stuff.
why wouldn't co.'s make awesome stuff with a good marketing budget? or is that just not done?
actually Apple seems to be a very good marketer, not sure Ford spends more than others, but whatever. most of your claims are value judgments by you, not self-evident truths
every Ford I go by tonight should be in the break-down lane since they are all so terrible, including all the police Ford vehicles? if only they would buy European vehicles right? those people don't market at all lol

Why my rogers (#1 in Canada) bill was $120/ month and my Virgin bill is $25
Why ppl are still buying Toyotas after all the deaths from brake failures
And ppl aren't all stupid, just not necessarily interested in the most intellectual stuff

"3) Green Day. They are kind of the Rocky Marciano of Rock. They are good simply because the competition is so weak."
that's a joke right? someone has got to be joking if they rank green day in any positive list

Green Day were the band that was willing to sell out and sign on the major label dotted line at a time when the major labels knew punk could be marketable (mainly due to Nirvana). Nothing more, nothing less. There were better bands that refused to and there were worse bands that followed in Green Day's footsteps. The majority of them are in the "where are they now?" files.....Anyone remember Butt Trumpet?

Great Big Sea, Barra MacNeils, Carmen Townsend, Mary Jane Lamond. Anything that's
Celtic/Acadian/Mi'kmaq. Great Big Sea(1) and MJ Lamond had major hit songs.
(1)Footnote: These guys have a lot of energy and emotion into their music. Some good songs include Mairi Mac and Ordinary Day.

U2 - the most overrated band in the U.S. Do these guys get it or what?

U2 and Oasis. What most of the others have already said about them x 100!

How does Nickelback have any kind of career if they are picked as the most over-rated by this many people on a forum? Honestly.. every 2nd post named them.
maybe because people lie? to appear more 'cool'? they say what they are expected to say by peer pressure?
I note that no-one ever admits to eating at McDonald's yet they always appear packed.. & the sign keeps adding so many "X" billions to the "number served"
"everyone" always say they don't really watch TV, yer Nielsen ratings tell a different story. people say things like " I never watch TV -but did you see "XXXX" ("Reality Show "X"" on ABC last night" ? lol
basically, people tend to be full of sh1t..

I honestly can't think of any popular bands that aren't overrated.
Posted: 3/28/2012 11:27:23 PM
1. Nazareth - If I hear that "Now You're Messing With A Sonofa****" one more time... irritate me to the maximum!
2. Pink Floyd - I think they lost their edge when they lost Sid Barrett.
3. S-Club-7 Band - Did they ever even rate?

I did read your explanations, but I guess what I'm not following isn't so much your comments, but how could there be a market? I know you probably can't answer that one, however.
I guess an awful lot of people just have crappy taste in music.
No doubt, Nirvana was one of the biggest acts of the 90's - I'm using them as an example (and note I like Nirvana, even though it was the junk he was talking about)
The following are exerpts from:
Kurt Cobain’s songwriting technique – in many ways – seems an enigma. Both musically simple and lyrically complex
Not many people know Teen Spirit was originally written as a joke – a mocking cover (although, with Kurt’s mainstream roots, who can say) of Boston’s More Than a Feeling. When he showed the riff to the rest of his band, [b[bassist Krist Novoselic instantly dismissed the song as “ridiculous,” but Kurt made the band play it repeatedly for an hour and a half until they had transformed it into their own sound.
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” was his attempt at “trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit it.
The genesis of the title has become a rock cliche, but on learning its genesis came from a deodorant,
The rest of Teen Spirit’s lyrics are largely nonsensical,
So yes, an awful lot of people do like crappy music

Current - Nickleback
Historical- U2 saw them in Edmonton and this was the worst concert I have ever attended. Every 10 minutes a political pitch. Shut up and play.
Not overrated... Red Hot Chile Peppers, Nirvana
