can't believe the ever present population control dogma!

I'm here, and I will approve who else will be allowed to live on this planet!

I was really surprized at the number of people who would cure disease and only 2 people even mentioned that if people weren't dying from disease, other things would become a problem. Its like that math problem with wolves and rabbits...

Anyways, I wouldn't cure disease. I have a strong respect for the way mother nature tends to even out the playing field, balance and all that. I mean sooner or later we woudl have no resources left to support the sheer amount of people alive and then the ones that woudl have been dead reproduce. However, it could be a great stimulus for getting us to colonize other previously unliveable planets? mebbe not.

Just goes to show as someone else remarked that there is a reason for suffering even though the suffering sucks. Mayhap that this is what the buddhists are talking about when they say that coming to the realization that things are as they should be brings peace.....ya think?

Of course I would. Then I would just go to all the people who said "Why does G-d make diseases?" and say "See, G-d's taken them away, because you complained about them." Then I'd watch them scream in terror.

I do like a bit of fun now and again.

so, dying at a young 80 isn't good enough, 2 year olds have to die of some sh]t disease for some sh]t reasoning.

if we miss "them" before their conceived, or before their born, lets hope they get sick early and die!

LOL I love the whack-a -mole game! interestign taht it finds its way here but i agree. he more we cure and find ways to treat so diseases are no longer life threatening, the worse diseases seem to get. Keep using antibacterial everything and we will all see just how crappy bacteria can become.

I guess the real dilemma in modern society is how to protect against an archaic illness. We're all vaccinated against things like measles, but what about some hemorrhagic fever coming out of the rainforest? The virus may be so old it hasn't evolved much in over 50 million years and yet that is precisely why it could be so lethal.
In that respect, I agree with the idea that disease is impossible to eliminate.

If I could do it though, I would. For a ransom fee of ONE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS. *pinky gesture*

I wouldn't mind living forever, [I am never bored, maybe you noticed] but not as the 90 year olds I meet.

in other words, if I felt like 150 at 150, that would suck!

ya, other than unforeseen crap, life spans have been 80 to not quite 100 years old for a long time, it seems.

I don't know enough about diseases to know if destroying them all might not lead to something even worse.
Overpopulation, hunger, exhaustion of natural resources leading to a world that needs to to have the population culled or risk stripping the earth of it's ability to sustain life.

No, I would not destroy all diseases...

If we destroy all diseases, we could be effectively immortal.

With that in mind, I'd have to steal a line from the first season of Babylon 5...

Rocket Man,

we definitely are not ready for immortality.

good one!

but if I could get rid of sicknesses of every sort, I would, if only to get rid of the 250 canvassers collecting money for cures!

a pulse on how people think.

or, a pulse on how SOME people think.

I wouldn't have believed how screwed up our thinking has become, if I hadn't been on these forums.
I'm kind of up set, actually.
I mean, you actually find some kind of appreciation in a person dying of some internal rotting disease?????????? say your 4 year old child?????????????

it's a joke on me! you had me going.

...would you destroy all diseases on earth?

Do you mean all disease ? For all living things ?
There are many bacteria, fungus, and viruses which could be considered a disease, yet actually serve a useful purpose.
Every human and almost every animal on the planet has bacteria in their digestive tract which are essential to digesting food. At one time in the far distant past these same bacteria were deadly but now they are essential to our very lives. Who knows what else we might be host to which we need for our lives but would be eliminated in our haste to conquer disease.

One beings disease is also anothers livelihood.
The whole fabric of life is prey and being preyed upon. For every being that exists there is another which preys upon that being for it's own life .
Even we noble humans, made in GOD's own image.

there doesn't seem to be any reason left in this world.

ok,

no suffering.
no accidents.
no deceases.
nothing bad at all.
no death.
no war.
no envy.
no rape.
no poor.
no starvation.
there is a lot more!
no sin.
etc.

you know, how the movies end, not the hopeless ones.

I just realized, the world kinda sucks.
there are not to many people, even if none had died.
more are alive now than have died.

good luck with human answers.
you always die in the end.

Disease, LOL

Disease according to what. There are multiple types of what people consider its class by personal definition. Hell, now they have even classified obesity as a disease or how about greed, I would classify that as a disease too. I think money is a disease while other people think certain racial ethnicities are a disease.

If we cured everyone’s concept of disease we would be in heaven witch defeats the purpose of life on earth as this is a place to develop and mature.

Generally speaking there would be no more suffering, pain, nor death. This would allow positive energy to progress but on the flip side this would also cause negative energy to progress as well, depending on ones own perception of an illness. I've meet plenty of people who think people who are happy all the time have a mental disorder and need help; as well, this has been made a similar argument for the opposite behavior. Disease is a judgment of balance in this world, not only with population but with maturity and humbleness.

So in conclusion No, but I would like our wonderful piece of trash governmental system to stop making us sick on purpose.

I really don't see any reason why not. I mean, if you cured the diseases, and they evolved, sure, that'd be a problem- but all diseases DESTORYED? Yea, thats nothing but good news.

The day that life evolved diseases back into the equation would be a dark day indeed- but think of the golden age until that point?

Excuse yourself Mr. Aremeself.

I have lost 5 family members to Cancer, lost 3 buddies to AID's, and 1 to heart disease. So speak for yourself.

People live and then they die. What the hell kind of world would we live in if people never had the moral reality of death. Our short life span here on earth promotes intrapersonal progress and collective development as a human race.

If everyone lived forever, can you imagine how stagnate life would be. Just think about that for a second.

Souls, I don't think you understand the question.

We're not talking about immortality- blood loss, terminal injuries, old age- you can still die in a land of no diseases. The question is "should people live forever"- its "is it a good thing if people aren't dying prematurely"

People would still be dying- only no one would be sick.

I would love to eliminate suffering caused by disease.
I wouldn't destroy the diseases preferring to cure the patient.

This all depends upon what you consider a disease.
The vast majority of the maladies which we consider disease are the results of bacteria and virus infestations.

Eliminating all the bacteria and viruses from the environment would have the short term effect of eliminating all disease. However, it would also destroy the whole ecosystem of the Earth as well.

All life on Earth depends upon the ability of bacteria to convert different chemical compounds from one thing to another, which other beings use as nutrients for their own existance.

Viruses are the most primitive life form on the planet and probably still perform a useful function on the genetic scale of evolution.

There are lots of bad things which happen which we don't like.
But, just because we don't like them doesn't mean that they are not necessary in the grand scheme of things.

Ah, the hubris to think that "diseases" have anything to do with us specifically.

Bacteria and virii are the earliest biomass of the planet. The fact that they get into us and cause problems for us from time to time makes them neither good or bad. Often, it's simply incidental. Evolution in action. Life moving into a new niche. Much like we do.

Cure diseases like AIDS or cancer? Absolutely. Develop medicines to counter drug resistant strains of common diseases? You bet!Obviously, it's better if people don't have to die. I certainly don't want anyone I love to die from any disease.

However, one thing I object to is the presumption that somehow a disease is an "affliction of man." No. We're just another suitable environment. We need to get over ourselves.

oh hum, google it, 1200 sq ft / person, if we all lived in texas.

that's apparently less crowded then manhattan.

I suppose wars are for population control too.
