not knowing if it's right
staying up so late tonight
writing rhymes among my friends
yet that term so much depends....

we've got history, my friends and me,
and many don't live in this country
though some go back and went off track
and others may have felt attacked,
it's writers here from over there
who gathered today just to share....

not knowing if it's wrong
to follow another poet's song
yet my heart is happy with all we've shared
my soul's content to know we cared
my body's tired from a long working day
my mind's relaxed 'cuz we played here today...

for writing poetically has been a whole lot less
having some fun with those who know best
how to make me laugh with their all too sharp wit
I try to keep up but I'm not nearly as quick
at having a come-back that shows I can tease
or let the words flow with the greatest of ease

yet it's poetry that I've missed recently
so time to begin perhaps yet again
a thread that is filled with poetic passion
one where I'm free to write spontaneously
and create my own first lines actually....

time to find space to write in the night
or the wee hours of the morning
when the muse calls without warning...
time to detach just a bit from the wit
though I'd miss the tears of a good laughing fit....

Controlled by fear that I might turn feral,
I ran to the bedroom and grabbed my apparel.
I threw it into the broken valise
And took off in the night to avoid the police.
I knew in my heart I should turn tail and retreat,
But I feared more the life I would have in defeat.
I ran 'til my feet no longer would function
And saw up ahead a light at the junction.
I asked to be taken inside for some gruel,
But the look in her eyes said she's nobody's fool.
So onward and outward I go in the night
Hoping for more options than just flee or fight.

How about admitting that defeat is better than winning
and ice cream is just one of the matters
that never resolve why sour cream
is always better than any g.d. candy?

this brief and miraculous surrender

holding on when the crap is being beat out of you
suffering thru whatevers ailing new

But they're looking for something the distance to last

she set off on her mission to turn the wrongs into rights.
At first she wasn't sure whom she had hurt the worst
But she knew she had to fix things lest in the end she be cursed.
Once she got the momentum and turned frowns into smiles
it grew easier to keep going and to mend across the miles.
Each one wanted to forgive her and to stop feeling the hate
So it turned out to be true: It is never too late.
She knows going forward it's not worth it to be mean
And to make a hole in her heart where the love should have been.

would I chose this way if i had a crystal ball this course
if you could see into peoples hearts and the actual meaning,
know which stock market was making the cleaning
if you had a crystal ball and could see,
would it be fair to venture in and be
the talk of the town and tell it like it is
everyone's biz,
or run like a little mouse whispering about
that which have seen and tell the future that the ball predicted
let nothing go neglected
or hold on to your little secrets , with no regard
perhaps tell them for a slight charge
only one really knows, whats in the ball
think he'll yell and scream it all
can't tell the future by predicting

sounds like a big waste of gas, no time to comb
think I'll settle for a movie, yes a 3 part dvd

fluid phantoms random fright
sightly sorcerer mighty muse

pray the morn does race to come

the other dream that I had
for it was much better and didn't smother
in fact to have it I was glad
but the nightmare that is mine now
leaves me in shaking fits
and scretches through my brain plowing
the only way to get rid of it
is to wipe the slate clean
it when I find i don't remember shit
there are no troble in my dreams
oh and don't eat before bedtime
lots of spicy stuff

all we need of life's proof
of the need to press on
is the notion that life
is much like a song
the intro is sweet
before the words come
just melodic voices
and a pulsating drum
a repeating chorus
shuffled with verses
roll right along
without reverses
an occasional bridge
keeps us on our toes
we set the rhythm
but we don't compose
up and down the scales
through octaves and measures
a grace note or trill
some of life's smaller treasures
some songs end
in loud cymbal violence
others just fade
slowly into long silence
then the ballad is over
the record has played
but others have heard it
so its essence has stayed
