how we perceive the truth & our own reality
is often discovered over a cup of tea
a dollop of honey goes ever so far
to sweeten the deal, to find who you are

a crumb on the table casts a shadow quite small
go numb if you're able past a sorrow's height tall
steep in the knowledge, not from college but life
pour the cup softly and don't stir with a knife

breath deep the vapor of sweet camomile
beneath keep the paper that reads how you feel
look out on the yard, not too hard but quite keen
a small patch of green unscarred and serene

a vanguard protects from the desert beyond
of this afternoon tea I have grown quite fond
even bees in the honey they've come to reclaim
I begrudge them not, feeding queen is their aim

great peace in the valley of thoughts deep and sweet
a caprice not to dally ought leap to my feet
for now a teapot and respite from the toil
let the bees in the pot fight the fight most royal

on some new way to show the cats
how to be better company....

sometimes they're really crazy
dashing round in a haunted frenzy
being spooked in front of company
or just so aloof as if to say....

look, but don't touch me
until they want something of me
and then they're as sweet as sweet can be
purring and talking constantly....

for siamese they are and will always be
both rescued from an awful cattery
so tiny they nearly died on me
but came through and grew beautifully...

plastic swooping up all ..in some path
that left a field of cars driving nowhere.
at the end, I am exhausted, purged.

what really matters is what we each deem fundemental or elemental
in my mind I pick through daily options like lint on a blanket
only to find that I have been running in the same old circles
freedom I cry into the wind of the east headed to the coast
to break the cycle of this boring routine that drains me
like blood thirsty vampires out to claim my soul for pleasure
I ride away with the forces of nature calming my weathered emotions
fly away dreading hauntings of yesterday into the promise of tomorrow
carry me upon the feathers of challenges yet to face into the sea mist
and may I smell taste feel live breathe the salt and sand blasting into my hair
able to clear my mind yet once again.....

my two cats here alseep on me
watching the sun rise so beautifully
hearing the birds welcome the day
seeing the frost melt away....

ahhh....these are all part of reality
guess they distract me from responsibility
yet it's important to stop and to be
and honour the beauty that surrounds me
remembering right now there are so many
who've lost their homes and family....

and more will die with this tsunami....

while here am I in all this beauty
sitting and typing comfortably
part of me feels guilty
with a rising humility
for all who are suffering so deeply
wishing to help and set them free
