Remakes...Page 2 of 4    (1, 2, 3, 4)

As much as I like and appreciate The Man In Black, I must disagree with his version of Hurt being better than NIN. No offence to Johnny Cash but listening to that version felt like I was listening to an old man trying one more time to have a hit song...so he took someone elses. Just my opinion.

Well I'd rather listen to Johnny's version than NiN's...

OT: Thrice did an amazing version of Send Me An Angel by the Pet Shop Boys.

Send me an Angel was originally sung by Real Life.

the person who said All Along the Watch Tower by Hendrix was a bad cover is stupid, that is one of Hendrix's best songs. And anything SRV did of his was aweful. A great cover is My Back Pages by Eric Johnson, originnaly done by Bob Dylan.

Aweful ones

Boys Of Summer - dunno who did it
Originally done by Don Henly

Dirty Laundry - forget but it was some crap woman
Don Henly original

Rocky Mountain Way - forget who covered it but it was bad
Joe Walsh

All Along The Watch Tower - Dave Matthews Band (sorry but its just bad)

Were Gonna Groove - Led Zeppelin
Willie Dixon

Travelling Riverside Blues - Led Zep, Eric Clapton
Robert Johnson

Some favorite remakes of mine:

Throw Your Arms Around Me - originally by Hunters and Collectors, covered by Crowded House

Turn The Page - originally by Bob Seger, covered by Metallica

Just a Gigolo - originally by (can't remember), covered by David Lee Roth

Go Go Round - originally by Gordon Lightfoot, covered by Blue Rodeo

Pocahontas - originally by Neil Young, covered by Crash Vegas

Unchained Melody - originally by the Righteous Brothers, covered (rather hauntingly, I might add) by Sarah McLachlin

Don't Dream It's Over - originally by Crowded House, covered by Sixpence None the Richer

The Wall - originally by Pink Floyd, covered in its entirety in a bluegrass style by Luther Wright & The Wrongs

okay....so i'll never say a remake of this is better than the original...but this one at least doesn't suck.

~~dolly parton's 'jolene' (original)
~~mindy smith's voice almost does it justice

Thank you. Those were horrible covers if you ask me, people just seem to butcher great tunes. No one can do them like their creators. Eric Clapton does some decent covers of Robert Johnson tunes on his latest album, Me and Mr Johnson. I think Crossroad Blues is the best cover off that album that he did.

Hadn't heard the Mindy Smith version, KY, but I do like the White Stripes remake of "Jolene". That's one sad mf-ing song, though.

Speaking of Robert Johnson...I loved the way Foghat did his song 'Teraplane Blues'.

I keep looking at my music and it amazes me how I really am obsessed with covers I really am. I have 5 versions of these boots are made for walking, 3 of lady marmalade, 6 of ballroom blitz, 4 versions of viva las vegas. Even if they are bad I just have to listen, Which brings me to my next point, I have a found a couple that were so bad they were good:
violent femmes: do you really want to hurt me
ten foot pole: joy to the world
