Why did you choose Plenty of Fish? Thoughts on other Dating Sites?Page 3 of 7    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)
because POF is FREE. i think that i do not like the other dating sites because i have to pay. POF has given me a lot of dates. i don't really recommend setting up profiles on any of the others because i do not know those dating sites except that they want customers to pay. thank you, POF. highly appreciate you.

I tried EHarmony once..biggest rip off I have ever seen.

I got on POF, because it was free. Wasn't active for a long time..then discovered the Forums by accident, now hang out there most of the time.

Am I looking for a woman to date, hopefully long term? You bet. But, that will come when it is time. I got burned once by a separated woman..partially my fault, I won't lay all the blame on her, but it hurt my heart. I tend to not want to get hurt.

So, why POF? Because it's free, and fun. I take it as it is..an avenue to meet someone. What comes from the meeting..who knows?

#1 reason: It's FREE.

Why pay to not get emails when you can not get them here for free?

After looking at other dating sites that are available I have noticed 80% of those members are on this site. So it a matter of economics. Why pay for something that is free elsewhere.

Initially, one of the prime reasons was, it was free; as I really don't expect to ever find romance, it was nice to find a place where maybe I could find some friends. It hasn't really worked out that way, though, I think women here are pretty much all either looking for a mate or believe that all single men are only after sex. So after a few years of never getting my messages returned, I've pretty much given up on it. At least with these forums, sometimes I get to be open with who I am, anyway, without actually having to be 'out' to the world. I decided to become a paying member because I believe in Marcus and what he's doing for all of us, and that he shouldn't have to shoulder the costs alone.
Another nice thing is, I don't get fake messages. Every other site sends out fake messages to get people to pay for a membership so they can respond to messages, usually from an attractive woman (well in the case of guys, anyway). But when we pay up, and write back, either we get no answer or the person tells us that they never wrote to us, or that it was a mistake and they clicked on the wrong person's picture. Now, I could normally believe that; but when I got two letters back WRITTEN EXACTLY THE SAME telling me it was just a mix up, well I knew something was a little odd. It was then that it became clear to me that most dating sites are just scams to get lonely, desperate people to pay money in the hopes of meeting someone, and that's just cruel. Those people should be ashamed of themselves. The biggest offender is, of course, match, but I regularly get fake messages on other sites as well.
Also to be mentioned is that if you sign up on those sites for automatic billing, you will be paying forever. They will never, ever stop billing you. No matter how many times you call them, or write to them to tell them you want them to stop, they will keep charging your credit card. I had to cancel my credit card, send them a notarized certified letter from an attorney, as well as one to the bank and the three credit companies and even then they continued to drag it on for several more months. Automatic billing is harder to get out of than a bad marriage.

what made you decide to choose Plenty Of Fish?

All the douchebaggory, none of the cost.

What do you think about the other major dating sites that are out there?

I was on Match, but I was seeing the same exact people there that have profiles here, so it was pointless. And eHarmony is a huge waste of time and money. I think that's the worst site out there.

I refuse to pay to meet dishonest people. Meeting them for free makes it a little easier.

Honeslty in the past being on an off here ive meet a few people but nothing that got past a second date though but i stick around for the forums mainly an its free..

as for the other sites adult friend finder not what it used to be BUT however ive meet an dated a couple guys off there hell i meet my last boyfriend off there an we were 2gether for 2years so go figure! match seems good but $ an eharmony makes me cringe everytime i see the commercial took the test twice an the prices are ridiculous..

zooks is pricey as for the rest well it all depends on where you live an people in the area being in oklahoma there isnt a big selection of people on the smaller dating sites an some are just dead..

Yep, I started out on the pay sites and got no responses. More or less the same here, but I'm not paying for rejection anymore. A few possibilities on here, but not really holding my breath.

One of the biggest problems with paid sites is that they keep all member profiles up including non paying members (obviously to look like they have a larger member base to atrract lonely guys to sign up). So you can email somebody and never know if they can read it or not. So, in other words you go through all this trouble and you are not even sure if they are ignoring your sorry az or cant even read what you wrote. Why pay when you can get your sorry az ignored for FREE on pof??

^^^^ thats true john but also the fact that alot of those member's of the "female profiles" they use to bait lonely guys are fake profile's which make the experience of using those sites even more so terrible.

i gather one main reason they do this half the time because there aren't enough female's on the sites to go around for every guy that signs up especially targeted at the under 40's crowd.

Also with e-harmony, they out right reject some people who they consider "unmatchable". Happened to a guy I know. Besides that, you have to jump through a whole lot of hoops to even be able to message someone. They really push the compatability angle. I'm of the belief that you can't put compatability on paper and you never know if you're compatible unless you're engaging with them in person.

I know of only One that even Vaguely compares to POF...!
The other 99.75% are Pay-per-sites that offer a FREE Profile...and _Maybe_ the ability to do a search....
No Contact...No Flirts...No Nothing...
Without a Paid Membership...Plain and Simple *Profiteering*
Only to find that 90% of their 'members' are generated by the site Employees....
Pics stolen off the net...or their neighbors trash cans!!....
Just to generate more revenue !

Pingshooter don't get me started on EHarmony. My daughter suggested that I try it. I remember taking hours answering the questionaires. Finally my profile is approved and they start sending me matches. I wanted to run for cover. Same thing happened on Match.com and Chemistry.com My communication skills enabled me to get my monies refunded though and I did not have to go the cuss you out route.

I got on POF at the suggestion of a friend who is also a client. Funny part about it was that he , myself and his Dad were out together one night when the subject came up. His father was trying to talk to me and so was he. As I had told him many times before I was not into robbing the cradle. While he is a very astute individual he was 29 years younger then me. His Dad was interesting but not my kind of guy. The free thing got to me because I had been paying a considerable sum for the other sites with no results.

Like you I have been burned on POF....then I found the forums. This is where I am content to be. I've upgraded my membership just to be fair to the web host however the cost doesn't come close to that which I have spent in the past. I'm not looking either but I know what I would like to find eventually.

Free site is very important to me these days. Lord knows I can't afford a paying one because my daughter is getting married next year in your neck of the woods and I have to once again be the production specialist, advisor, accountant, chief cook and bottle washer etc. 200 people. I do not relish this . Wish I could hire The Lady and Son's, Mrs Wilkes, or the Boar's Head instead of having to do it on my own. That would certainly take a load off.

Someone told me about POF and I love the forums!!! I tried EHarmony (big bust) and Match and am actually in a relationship with someone I met from there a year ago. I feel that I met more people looking for a serious relationship on match than anywhere else... where as the people on pof although friendly are really just looking for casual dating.

Honestly you can find what your looking for whether it's a paid or free site. Just be honest, direct and sincere in what your seeking and eventually it will happen.

I choose POF because it's enlightening. POF is like a window into the soul of humanity. A few hours (or years) of browsing the profiles and forums here, and anyone can be a virtual expert on how twisted that society really is. As someone who has significant personal problems and issues in life, it never ceases to amaze (and amuse) me how delusional and irrational that most of the supposed "normal" people are.

Ummmm,,,,I know for a fact that I'm not even close to meeting the definition of "normal". In fact, if looking in Webster's at the definition of nutbar, I'm pretty sure they gotta pic of me waving my rod in the air.

Ah yes ... 'normal' ...

Keep in mind we are a very bizarre species. One person will feed the squirrels, another will shoot them. One will litter on the beaches, a group will volunteer to clean it up. The list goes on.

Like the term 'average', 'normal' (as in 'the norm') is mostly based on what is done by 50% or more of a society. If you're in the 49% or less, you'd be considered unusual, not average, not the norm (not normal). But who among us thinks, feels, behaves in every way like the majority? I'd guess just about none. So in that context, our abnormality is a matter of by how much, and in how many ways, we differ from the average in the respect(s) under discussion.

Except in extremes or where we're talking about douchebags of some sort, I say "vive la difference".

Well, POF is free, and worth it, too.

Seriously, POF has way more traffic than most other free sites.

Because POF is free and the forums are quite entertaining!
I have had more luck with Yahoo (when it was free!) and Craig's list in the past however for meeting women.

Me too..but when I tell people this they are like "Craigslist?? What?!!.."

But this was quite a few years ago. CL has gotten to be a total nut house zoo these days. POF is by far the best as far as FREE and at least as good compared to paid sites. Have tried Matchdoctor. After seeing the girls on that site..you may have to go to a real doctor.
