Being a LonerPage 5 of 6    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
I am a loner, too. I am not like people at my job. They disclose everything in their lives to people they barely know. Apparently, the criteria for being acceptable is to tell everyone your business. I am not like that. It takes time for me to build trust with someone. I definitely don't go into every relationship thinking everyone is out to get me but I am cautious.

sure I have heard of Einstein.... however the quote is from Thoreau.

Yeah,,,I know where the quote was from,,,I typed the freaking thing.Thoreau,,,was also a "loner",along with everything else he did.

My point being, Einstein was not only a loner, and a genius,,but also a bordeline nutbar. It was a comment on your "fine line" thingy and the guy in the tower blasting away at people. Usually "society" doesn't realize how intelligent, expressive, artistic or whatever "loners" and "nutbars" are until long after they are dead and buried. But, because they don't "understand" they have no problem "labelling" people while they are alive. One of the reasons why some artists work isn't "valued" until after the fact. More than enough examples out there,,,,,I gave ya two.

i love being a loner for many reasons....i get to do what i want and when i want to do it,peace and quiet after a long day at work,no arguments with nobody,no whiny little brats to contend with, nobody to tell me i am wrong when i right(even when i am wrong)....all in all i just enjoy my own company ever since childhood(maybe the reason why i am a loner is because i tried to make friends and everyone ignored me when i was younger, even from my own family....oh well...life goes on)

Get out to places where other loners go.

Such as.......isolated mountain cabins, abandoned mine shafts, and remote monasteries.

"" The man who goes alone can start today, but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready.""

My own sentiments exactly. I move so much faster and see so much more when I travel alone. Few people can cover as much ground and see as many things as me in a day.

Try taking the Meyer/Briggs personality test. It will tell you what type of personality you are as well you can check out other personality types. You can use this info to check out how you appear to others and what others might need or want from you. It does help one to appreciate the differences and will help you become more compatible. Hope this helps. Works for me.

I know exactly how you feel. I have asked the same questions over the years- I have tried to change it. I became the happiest once I accepted it and embraced it. If people do not like me for it, then so be it. To each his own. I do not know if that will work for you, all I know is that it worked for me.

If there was one word to describe me...would be Snake Plissken.
That's who I am, and that's who I always will be. I actually prefer being alone, or with one, or two other persons in my life. I'd be quite content with having a full time girlfriend I see maybe every 2 days, and my 2 kids at the same frequency.
Which is why I'm still single; up until now, either I've dated girl whom I could only see 1 times in a month, or girl who are so hooked to me they feel like a leech I want to burn off...

well if you are a loner; dont make friends easily; consider friendship a temporary thing; there is only one thing to do. CHANGE

You can't say I'm not trusting, and I'm not going to put much into something but I want something out of it.

Friendship is about give and take. It also takes effort and work. You are not willing to do that.

If you change and be more open to connecting with people, then you can make new connections. If friendships are really just revolving relationships then you will not connect much with anything.

Think about the other person first. Be fun, be open, and listen. You will then be a good friend. good luck.

Im a loner, but not too many people know it, I love being by myself at times, I just have a love for people too, Im not a shy person and I can make most people feel at ease. I cherish my friends, I balance my alone time and my time for company.
Communicate with people and show you have a genuine interest in them.

Barrie, come be alone with me honey!!

What? I thought Barrie and DeeDee hooked-up and cured themselves of being loners a long time ago on page 1! Sure, there's nothing wrong with being alone if you want to be. However, it's better to pair off.

I have a lot of friends, but I often choose to be a loner because a lot of my friends are needy.

Nope. I'm just mean and don't trust anybody

Friendship is about give and take. It also takes effort and work. You are not willing to do that

If EVERYONE thought like that there wouldnt be a problem. But the problem is, that one usually gives more than one receives. A lot of people have a strange and self-centered view of friendship. And most people arent afraid to diss their friends and throw out opinions when they're not there. I dont do it, as such I dont stand for it; you wanna diss me, do it to my face.

Which is why I choose to be a loner.

I am a loner.,, always have been. The thing with me on that is that I never really liked social clicks. I like my freedom to do what I want to do, met, hang out with who I would like to. Plus clicks are pretty phoney. i think if you make a few real friends in this life, you're pretty lucky. You can still meet great people along the way as you pursue your interests in your freedom. People are cool, but the arms length thing is wise. Hope that helps.

barry you arent a loner, youre simply unique and as such takes a tad bit longer to find your perfect niche of friends, i think i lke being a loner at times as you cant always be engorged with company all the time.

I've come across pple who just wanted any kind of friendships only for the sake of not being alone or fearing to be pegged as "cast out". A sign of insecurity perhaps.

There are many reasons for pursuing friendships, some legit and some fake ones. True loners have to be comfortable in their own skin, and feel at ease with their lifestyle whereas those loners who don't feel at ease usually have some form of social hinderances.

There is something positive to say about folks who don't wanna get involved with needy; clingy; dishonest pple or be in company of boring pple wanting to carry on banal discussions/conversations.

I'm in the same boat and still dealing with it.
its really really challenging to go from being very introverted
into a person who is extroverted and essentially a social butterfly with all sorts of people.

I am only alone because I live in complete, unwavering, relentless, endless poverty. I want to say thank you Obama for killing all of the jobs. All I needed was one more day of being alone. If I had any money at all I would ask the girl at the local waffle house for a date and if she suggested that she couldn't because of kids, insinuating that she can only go out if I hire a babysitter then I would have to sit alone and think about offering her money to get a babysitter verses hiring a prostitute. Without money I don't have either of those choices and for some reason that I can't figure out, there are no rich women beating down my door. I have been trying to figure that one out for five decades and still no answer. As a person whom spends most of his time alone I can tell you that all of the people in politics agree on one thing, give American jobs to China. They love free trade. Cheap labor equals more money for them. If they had one ounce of American in them they would completely eliminate free trade forcing American manufactures to hire American workers. You are never really alone, the IRS wants to know where you are and be your friend for life. They want you to pay for a government that doesn't represent anyone. Thats why I don't vote. If I could vote for them to kiss my ass I would be at the election booth right now pulling down levers as fast as possible.
