Now it appears as though the threaded messaging has been cut back to only contain the last ten sent/received messages from the previous thirty.

That's all that you "have to" view. There is an option to view more of that message thread if you want. This way you don't have to scroll down so far. Also...you now have the ability to send a quick message or complete one.

It's better now.

PLEASE SET THE MESSAGES UP WHERE THE NEWEST MESSAGES ARE AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE INSTEAD OF THE BOTTOM

I agree. But I got them to do that with email at work and lots of people complained. We sampled some user's opinion at work, and they liked scrolling to find the bottom.

I intentionally stopped talking to someone because I didn't feel like pressing a key (END) to see the bottom of the convo each time or scroll down - I had already clicked to the inbox, then the message itself - 3 steps gets tedious.

The messages are no longer interesting without unique titles, that hasn't changed since my last msg about it. Degraded my experience so far. I know the site is free and I've been here long enough to give you chances to improve but this one really just sounded bad at the start and now doesn't make me want to get long messages going. I wouldn't doubt it if there was a trend - you can figure that out yourself.

We're all used to reading things top to bottom. Anyone not notice that's how we read messages here in the forums?

Still, there's no reason not to allow the user to select a reading direction.

SUBJECT LINE: BRING IT BACK!!!!
Posted: 2/18/2012 10:26:08 PM
Need help with this: The Default Subject Line has NOT been eliminated for me.

Every first-contact message I send automatically includes a Subject Line I had used only once before. Now EVERY first-contact message includes it - VERY unhelpful for me (especially in replies that comment, negatively, on the Subject Line).

Mail Settings are useless. I've sent two emails to CRS: Got an irrelevant "form" email back from the first. The second one was ignored - as were three v/mail messages I left, as well as two messages sent to POF thru Contact Us.

I've started to include an apology with all first-contact messages, but not all recipients make it past the subject line they realise wasn't meant for them (i.e. Unread Deleted).

Other than my flying to Vancouver, is anyone aware of a way to have POF address this - I'd obviously rather keep my user name, and not have to start all over again.

Thanks - these kinds of little admin issues should NEVER be this difficult.

DirtySmurf, medius & ManOfNature: same here. If you ask me, this looks like the site designers botched up their job. This is retarded!

As a developer myself, the best (and only real) reason I can think of to get rid of the titles, is to get around the issue of having to chose which title to use when combining threads between the same people, where different messages in the same 'thread' have different titles.

BigFish,

Would it not be possible to just restore the original setup with titles, and when summarising the thread, pick the most recent topic title used for the thread by either party?

Good morning, I was wondering if when you put an event on your page, can you put an image? If so, could you tell me how to do this? I'm gtting ready to put the event for St Patricks and I would like to put a pot of gold and coins. Is this allowed?
Thank you

Where's the admin's comment on this issue? Seems right now like they don't care.

I can still add a subject title in the android app, but not on the desktop. The only caveat to that is I can't search by user name on the mobile app.

Hope they get this resolved soon.

The only comments by Admin (singular, as there is only one who controls site functionality) is provided by way of links in the first post.

Well, more changes tot he system and more problems arising...

I'd been using the SEND MESSAGE link on profile pages rather than replying, which at least allowed ME to see message titles from the SENT MESSAGE page, but the title field has vanished from that.

Naturally, I noticed my generic default GREETINGS! and figured it would be a work-around... no such luck; that option's vanished from MAIL SETTINGS too.

AND about a quarter of the images I see no longer work as links to the profile pages. In search listings, those with no image link also have no functioning VIEW PROFILE link.

Sure looks like BigFish is determined to remove titles from messages, even if it's taking him a long time to root them all out. Can't understand why... there's a clear place to put them in every message, and it's trivial code to show them with the message.

no subject = no responses
[second time i had to write this, ff crashed, arg!!]

If there are misunderstandings in here, please forgive me. This is the way I see it with the information available to me:

BRING BACK THE SUBJECT LINE & INCLUDE IT IN THE ALERTS:

My understanding is that without a custom subject line, there is absolutely no way to distinguish a given message from the 50 to 100 spam messages woman receives upon setting up an account on POF within day 1 to 2. The sheer number of spam messages, coupled with only a generic notification to the email account, virtually assures 'POF Burnout' of older, less active accounts. She read hundreds of messages saying the same thing, indicating the poster never read her profile and indicating a scammer of some kind, or simply someone with absolutely no creative ability what-so-ever: depressing and disappointing for a woman looking for any advantage to having 'put herself' online.

It naturally creates quite a bit of stress to unnaturally try to squeeze one's organic self into a non-organic representation. This plus the responses being mechanical, and over-whelming, assures that when she gets a real, interested male profile response, she would have stopped using POF or at least, not check the messages often, having no way to distinguish the alerts in her inbox.

Going the WRONG WAY: not only cease discontinuation of Subject/Topic lines, but also include the Subject line in the email alerts. This way she can distinguish.

Some girls may get a ton of messages but they are all from guys like you and me, who are interested in her and thing we may have a shot and not spam.

So now she "must" open them to see what is inside, where before she may read some cheesy subject line and just delete on the spot.

Sounds like it means that you now have a better chance of getting your message read.

That said, she could still look at our profiles and not even bother and a clever subject line will never change that.

As of today, the default subject line (which can no longer be changed by the user) is still being displayed with messages sent via browser GUI. Android app sends default subject of 'Hi'.

This seems like an issue affecting a large majority of users. Is the grand high site developer addressing this? From a user's perspective, it sure doesn't seem like it.

Maybe have threaded messaging tested and running before eliminating legacy functions?!?!

This is one of the reasons I have decided to not join POF as a paying member, over the years when things get changed, there seems to be little to no public side testing of the changes, they just flip the switch and hold on for the ride. I can obviously get this kind of effect for free, I'm surely not going to pay for a service that may become unappealing, unstable or borderline unusable with no notice.
IMO, it would be better to have users allowed to opt-in for major changes as a testing group versus just making the change and being silent when the changes don't go as planned.

Now that's an idea I've long wanted - have the e-mail notifications carry th subject line!

Of course, first we have to HAVE a subject line...

Perhaps Markus (the guy who does almost everything on the site by himself) is too busy because of the dead-soldier-picture lawsuit (photo continued to be shown, causing family grief). Give him a bit of time.

While I understand going to a different messaging format -- the one issue that remains unresolved is that my old "default" subject line for messages is still being placed on my outgoing messages, without giving me any facility to change it, either at time of message generation or in mail settings.

Please either NULL those fields from the database, or restore a link under settings to allow users to update that subject line. At least with this, we'd be ok until the different messaging format is fully deployed.

I tested this again tonight, and it's still happening -- I'm not sure if my recipient sees the subject line in inbox, but *I* see it when I view the message from my "sent messages" section.

Thank you for any mods you can make to address this issue...

Static messaging subject - need ability to change setting
Posted: 3/9/2012 7:27:09 PM
Sorry to double-post, but I noticed that when I go and view the message I sent tonight, it has, at the bottom, dialog fields to send another message -- and whaddyaknow -- the subject line can be changed on subsequent messages.

Not sure how it looks from the recipient end, still, but thought it worth mentioning here.

So It's been close to a year now, since they stopped allowing us to add a subject to our messages.........I wanted to know if they would ever consider adding that option back, since so many POF'ers seem to want it back.........any feedback to this question/addition?............
