By the time a woman is in her 50s she should be aware of what type of clothing flatters her figure. If you have nicely shaped legs then show them . They are your assests. But... use good judgement in how short your dress or skirt is. Then look in the mirror!!!

Can't believe people are debating this...just because a woman is over 50, doesn't mean she suddenly loses her style. If you have good legs, show a little. Super short skirts at ANY age are trashy anyway..

Fraid I am of the "IF you have it, Flaunt it!" school. Personally I think you have to be comfortable in what you wear, and if you are comfortable in a mini skirt, (AND Have the legs/fanny for it) go for it. IF you have a flabby rear, and saggy thighs, you should probably NOT be wearing anything shorter than knee length at best!!!

Well I agree with don't wear it if you have a flabby rear and saggy thighs, even young people should not be wearing some of the clothes that are considered in style for their age.. They simply do not have the body for it.. However where I disagree is just because you have it does not mean you should flaunt it.. There is a more tasteful way to flaunt it without showing a ton of skin. Leave some to the imagination ..

Girls, you have convinced me to raise my hemline an inch or two. Almost everybody says "if you have pretty legs, show them". I get compliments, so why not. Thanks all for the fine discussion

Everyone agree that if rhonda33 has the confidence, an inch or two shorter should move emphasis away from knees?
But not if youre worried about it, or it's the wrong shape and have to keep pulling it back into place!

I don't mean to be disrespectful here BUT, I think the OP may be a man! Check out the pics, adam's apple and very large hands. If I am wrong , please forgive me. I have friends of all kinds, but I find it kind of funny that no one else noticed this!

Of course you meant to be disrespectful. When I looked at your profile, I was shocked when I saw your age. That was beyond rude.

Just because you notice something, you don't need to mention it.

I'm over 50 and I've given up the mini skirts. More of an "age appropriate" thing for me. Now give me the beach, pool or hotter then hot vacation spot -- still a bikini. Moreso I think it what makes the woman comfortable. Some rock it, some don't.

OP, I have the same problem as you are, except that I am short, but my legs do touch the ground, so I'm happy with that!

Anyway, mine is exactly the opposite. I would put on a dress, and it becomes a night gown for me. I do have a mini skirt that still fits me. I've had it since I was 25 years old. When I put it on, I do look like a teenager. But of course, I put on a pair of pantyhose. My issue is I can't fit into women's dresses, so end up going to teenagers or kids stuff. If I ever see one, I have no choice but to alter the clothes. Same with shoes! Same dilemna!

I don't really see anything wrong with women showing their legs off. If it looks nice, I guess you can flaunt it. The ones that I don't understand.. (I apologize if I offend someone) are those who are obese and tries to fit into a small dress when they obviously too big for the outfit and ready to burst in it! Why try the wrong size?

I think a shorter skirt looks fine with dark stockings and a medium size heel. However a lower neckline showing cleavage as well, would be too vampy in my opinion once we are mature.

There is such a thing as bad taste though and I would be mortified if my mother wore short skirts when she was elderly no matter what state her legs were in. Mutton dressed up as lamb, as they say.

Does it matter what other people "noticed?"

Perhaps it is not perception they lacked as much as they lacked the poor taste to comment on something that was NOT a topic in the original post. I don't recall the OP asking for opinions on appearance.

I have friends of all kinds

What a shame they can not say the same about you.

Above the knee is fine. If your legs still look fabulous, go shorter. Just because you're 50 doesn't mean you can't look & feel sexy, or have to lenghten your skirts!

Huh?

I want to be wowed by a woman's body parts.

There are many women who keep themselves in great shape and why they should retreat into matronhood because they are over 50? I really like an older woman in a mini skirt or bikini. They'll have lots of time in their 80's and 90's to lower the hem line.

I like sexy older women. I sure hope that some of the women who think older women shouldn't dress seductively are not the same one's who wonder why many guys want younger women. We want you to be our girlfriend foremost and not someone who thinks that sexiness has an expiry date.

Overall I prefer a bit of mystery.... a little bit of leg /shorter length if you are so blessed OR a bit of cleavage if you are boobalicious.....(if you wear a skirt up to the cheeks and a top that barely covers...it sends the wrong message no matter the age.) It's all good if the woman is confident and classy and the outfit is flattering . YOU are the gift package some lucky fella may get to unwrap. :)

Ladies always dress like ladies. Hemlines should be no higher that the knees. You can accessorize the top with attractive, simple jewelry and a nice hair do. No low cut blouse line. You wow him with your charm, not your body parts.

^^^Hmmm...guess I am no lady then! lol..I have a great set of gams and I wear short skirts and heels. I am not slutty but do make the most of my assets so to speak..why not?

They can have lots going for them. Mother theresa was a great woman....doesn't mean most guys want her as a mate.
