Well, in my experience when (in the gay world) when i first start chatting with someone and they just blurt out the "top/bottom" question, that just totally turns me off and I just shut down from them. It seems to have happen within the first 10 mins and its such a downer. So I can totally relate. :)

You made a bit of a boo-boo there. This thread did not start in 2004 since the OP didn't even join until 3/21/2012. Now if you are saying this is a subject that's been done many times before, well, those are different threads.

Back on track. This thread is actually pretty funny. Even I get "you're hot" and when I do I laugh my freaking head off. Yeah, this 56 yr old, fat woman is "hot". Am I supposed to believe that?

Guys, I have a problem here. I want your opinion men and women. If someone you started to chat/text whatever, and after a while before you meet them they will say You Are Hot do you think they are break dealers. I find very insulting and I stop contacting them. Thank you

I am confused in responding to this, do you feel insulted if someone gives you a complement? Is it the “You Are Hot” – like the “Hi” messages that might be massed mailed?

For example, this is from just reading your post and your profile. What happens if I would have wrote or told you that you have exquisite looks, especially your eyes are attractive and you have a distinctly sensual smile? You do seem to enjoy a few of my interests too for example music and films. While these are large fields of interest, do you have any specific music or films that you enjoy? I would like to learn more about who you are. By the way, I do have a pet.

Notice I did not use the word “Hot”. Is this the problem? I have tried to learn about you.

What happens if we are texting back and forth and you start giving me “You Are Hot” should I be insulted?
Are we getting so decentralized of “I’m so pretty” e-mails yet you don’t know my faults that all we should say is “Hi”?

Why would an attempt at flattery be a deal breaker? Ill admit your hot sounds more awkward to me (and always makes me want to make temperature jokes, sometimes my lack of filter lets them slip out) but a deal breaker? Hell no, they are trying to complement you.

I don't find flattery to be a compliment. I spent a lot of time on my profile to let someone get a glimpse of who I am and he sends an initial message, "You are hot?" My reaction? "You are only interested in one thing." Face it guys, many of your gender thinks that line will get them laid. Generally, like the OP, I dismiss him as shallow and delete the message.

The question of the post was, is the phrase "you are hot" a deal breaker. The answers are as diverse as the people in the universe. For me it depends, when it was said, how, did they say anything else. Was it the male equivalent of "wanna screw?" As I said in an earlier post, it is a deal breaker, (only there was no deal to break) when that is all they said. Do I slap some guy who says that to me in person? No. Do I hop in bed with him? No. I would venture to say that maybe one or two fellows have just walked up to me and said, "Hey, you are hot." Yet many have messaged those words in an IM or email. Why the discrepancy? Wanna screw, or the other word usually used, is at least honest. I did ask a fellow one time if that line really worked. He said," yes, it is a matter of numbers someone will say yes." He bought me a drink and moved on. To each his own. I don't mind a sincere compliment. When I am in a relationship, I like being told I am hot, sexy, etc. The facts are people will say things online or on the phone what they would not say in person. A little decorum goes a long way. Now if I was looking for sex, I might have a different attitude. I am looking for a long term relationship, I want to know who you are. So a flip, "you're hot" isn't impressive.

A. They could be acting like they are players (Gahghh), B. They may be simply trying to lift up the conversation. C. Maybe they are innocent of anything other than trying to make someone else feel good.
No need to be suspicious. You cant make an assessment that easy. That's the problem with these sites. Say thanks and move on. I'm a big fan of the word "hun" and I'm certainly not uneducated. I think it's a nice, friendly and informal greeting. I save other terms of endearment (sweety, babe or baby, etc) for relationships, but hun I use for friends and informal acquaintances.
