I've read the book and found it silly... if you really want to read well-written books about dom/sub, S & M, bondage, control etc., read the Sleeping Beauty trilogy by Anne Rice.

It's okay if it's your first foray into Erotic Romance, but there are better authors out there.
It's disappointing that it's a younger female submitting to an older male...that's the same formula that made Harlequin the big name they are.

I preferred Emma Holly's Menage...sexy read. Probably not 500+ people waiting for it.

My 83 year year old Mom had this book at home and had me read it when I visited her a few weeks back. She said to me: " When I got married I was not so smart about all this stuff. I think every woman planning on getting married must read this book so they know what is going on!" Be kind she came from a different millenium

Well I thought that was sweet and old fashioned, gotta love my Mom. My Mom obviously is not paying attention to the news where HS kids are getting bj s on the bus.

So I did indeed read the book. What the hay it took almost 100 pages for the elevator thing. I was ready to toss the book to the wall (I've watched porn, but don't tell the Mom). I guess I am of that give it to me now wheeee squirt generation who can see quick clips on you porn and see gratification in a few minutes or less.

It is not greatly written, but it was steamy. I would be very interested to hear the reaction of the D/s community. And guess what my Mom sent me in the mail two days ago: both sequels. I sent them to her both off Amazon and in less than a week they were back on my doorstep.

Three books and a movie contrat. Dang wish I had thought of that first. Would have done the Mom proud *L*

The sad part is, most women have never had a lover who can take her to the heights and depths of her possibilities.... Orgasms upon orgasms.... EVERY TIME. And most men don't know how or care to please their partner to that extent.

If these books wake men and women up to the beginning of figuring out their own sexuality and sets them on the path towards awakening their sexual appetites, then good for them.

But for me..... meh... it was mere child's play.

There is SO much more out there.... DEEPER, DARKER, MORE INTENSE. 50? pfffft~ Gimme 100,000!!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed these books, not so much for the sex, but because it really is a love story. The sex actually became boring to me and I started to skip over it, LOL. I guess I'm a freak; this stuff didn't even phase me :P
It was written very poorly which was annoying. The "Oh sh*t/crap" "oh my!" kind of stopped in the second book ~ or else I became immune to it.

Agreed! Other than the toys, I couldn't find much difference between 50 shades and your garden-variety bodice-ripper.

He's strong, beautiful, powerful and haunted. She's a delicate virginal beauty, but a feisty wench at times. Gag. Oh, wait. No gags. That was one of her soft limits...

It could've been a really intriguing and hot book. So much could have been done with the power struggle, complex layers...But nah, he just deflowered her creatively as she struggled between her love for him and her own sense of self...Yawn...

There was a movie with Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Fader called The Secretary. That was kind of hot, but that was actually intriguing.

I think that all the people out there reading this series and only taking away the sex aspect of it don't understand the books at all. Yes there is a ton of sex, nothing way too over the top in my opinion. However the whole premise of the books is the relationship of two people who evolve over time and and make compromises and are willing to change their basic wants and desires in order to make each other happy. Even if it means opening their minds to ways they have never considered before. I find them entertaining enough and enjoy the fact that it has everyone talking about alternative lifestyles and ideas they haven't thought of before. I have always taken care of myself without the help of a man but I also do enjoy and man that's not afraid to act like a man and take control in certain situations. I am tired of the wish washy guys out there afraid to be even a tad bit assertive.

Succinct account, and having read the first one, I'd have to agree.
The S&M stuff was moderately titillating, but not shocking. She did a nice job with the sex stuff, I think. Although I doubt the scenarios are really all that shocking for a really creative person.

However, if you ignore the heaving breasts and spankings, it becomes almost mundane. The "heroine" compromises herself on a pretty deep level, and is surprised that it doesn't sit well with her. Duh. Maybe the relationship between the two takes on more complexity in the later books, but I'd have to take the word of those who read them. It could have been really interesting, but for me, it wasn't.

I read the book in two days, the first one. On th second one. I was hot like fire the whole time I read it. Its a great book and its actually not the only book of that type I have ever read. I think a person can have a normal sexual relationship after reading it. Hopefully your future partner would be willing to do some Christian Grey activities.

It isnt written that well, but i do like the story MetalVixxn. I am used to books like this and they are well written. I dont like the fact that the characters are so young. I would have preferred a guy in his 40s to early 50s and the woman to be around my age maybe a little younger. I am 39. I changed the characters a bit. I cant stand it when Anastasia kept saying " oh please" when they were in the act. Got on my nerves. I liked Christian's character alot.

A couple of years ago I was told my picker was broken. At the time I didn't even know I had a picker. I have since found said picker and been figuring it out.
Reading threads like this make me glad I found my picker and learned its use.

An occasional diversion to a fantasy is okay, to actually want a 27 year old billionaire to take you to his dungeon and spank you instead of wanting a real man......Well lets just say that my picker pegs to the "run like hell" side of the gauge.

I've heard so many negative things about the writing and how mild this is that I think I'll pass. Like others have mentioned I"m a fan of the Beauty trilogy, also 9 1/2 Weeks and the movie the Secretary. Oh, and the Story of O. The interesting thing about this series is that it's getting vanilla women to talk about their suppressed submissive fantasies and maybe some of them will feel bold enough to try acting them out - which is a good thing. Even just in terms of foreplay and seduction, D/s is as hot as it gets, imho.
