TO EVERYONE HERE THAT THINKS "SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE" IS BIBLICALLY FORBIDDEN...

It's been my experience that most Christians have not researched the Bible. They often just go on what their minister has told them, or what their family has taught them if they were raised in a religious family. On the other hand theologians, scholars, & many atheists have researched the Bible, Judaism, Christianity, & history, & have a firmer grasp of what is what.

The verbal doctrine of “no sex before official marriage” is not borne out by a thorough reading & understanding of the Bible, Mosaic law, & Judaic culture amongst Hebrews. The Bible recognizes a relationship called "betrothal," which is comparable to our relationship called "engagement." Being "betrothed" was basically the same thing as our "being engaged." Couples who were betrothed typically lived together. In the Bible, it’s understood and accepted that a betrothed couple would engage in sex, & this is not considered fornication.
One of the places where this is referenced is Deuteronomy 20:6 - 7, where the officers instructed any men who had not already had sex with their betrothed women, to go and do so before going into battle.

Many Christians, as seen in this forum even, believe that virginity is required at the time of marriage, and some may cite Deuteronomy 22:20-21 as proof that non-virgin women who marry must be stoned to death under Old Testament Law. This reading, however, does not apply to all non-virgin women. The correct reading includes all of Deuteronomy 22:13-21, in which it is seen that the stoning applies only to cases in which the woman was misrepresented as being a virgin when she was not, and had been "playing the whore" in her father's house, and her husband hated her for this misrepresentation. If the husband had known she was not a virgin, and had accepted her anyway, then there would have been no problem.

Additional proof that virginity is not required at the time of marriage can be found in Leviticus 21:13, where it is specified that the high priest must marry a virgin.
"And he shall take a wife in her virginity."
(Leviticus 21:13 (KJV)
If female virginity were required at the time of all marriages, then there would have been no need to specify that high priests must marry virgins. Therefore by implication, others may marry non-virgins if they choose to do so.
There is no requirement whatsoever in Scripture that any males must be virgins at the time of their marriage.
The Greek word for sexual immorality is PORNEIA, sometimes translated as "fornication." The New Testament speaks against PORNEIA in at least twenty-four different places, so it is clearly prohibited. Most authorities would include adultery, incest, homosexuality, and bestiality as being PORNEIA. Most would also include prostitution ("harlotry") and promiscuity ("playing the harlot"). Beyond those six, there is not consensus.
Nevertheless, virginity is not required at the time of marriage, and sex is permitted to engaged couples, as previously explained.

Thank you for your time, & now go forth & have sex...

Corinthians 7:1-40

To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. 9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

I guess you can interpret the Bible to say whatever you want it to say. The above from Corinthians 7:1-40, at the very least, gives the impression that marriage is "recommended".

Of course, it is hard to tell what "For it is better to marry than to burn with passion" actually means. Do they mean burning in hell or, are they saying that passionate sex is more sinful than lousy, dispassionate, orgasm-less sex ?

When I read that, the possibilities that come to mind are the following:

1. do not have sex unless you are married (I presume they mean sex with your partner, not someone else)
2. if you're having sex outside wedlock, lousy fvcks may still go to heaven (because they didn't enjoy it) and great fvcks go to hell (because they burnt with passion)

That's one of the reasons I prefer science... a whole lot less ambiguity.

you have to do whats best for you and whatever you feel comfortable with. I was born catholic and as a teenager was terrified of being burned in hell lol!! but after a 27 year marriage (and separated) i am in a relationship of over 3 years and i am still unscathed :)

All of these rules and regulations are based on Christianity and the Bible. But there are millions, more likely billions, of people on the planet who think their non-Christian religion and their holy book is the only proper religion along with their own rules and regulations and think Christianity and the Bible, and any other religion is practiced by devil worshipers creating very evil disciples of the "devil", or whatever term other religions use for the name of the evil forces.

So a Muslim or Hindu or whatever religious view on the when's and where's and how much can be vastly different than the standard Christian's view of sexual activity. Which religion is right and which one has it all wrong has been argued and fought through wars for thousands of years and will continue for eternity.

Yes honey I agree but sometimes ones upbringing is hard to shake off - dont think there is a right and wrong - just individuals opinions which should be respected.

I just don't do it. I let the man know up front that I'm waiting till marriage. He's either with it or not.

Ms. God's child, you stated it very nicely and I like your answer. Thanks for sharing.

Never ever will I get into a relationship with a religious freak. Let them pound their heads cross themselves all without me. This is the 21st century and the fairy tale books are just fables.

I believe in Jesus Christ, although I don't belong to a formal church.

There's certainly nothing wrong with being Christian or any other faith. However, if I see a girl's profile and she goes on and on about religion, I'll go on to the next one. Some people put biblical passages in their profile and I've even seen screen names with a religious bent like john316 or something. If she's totally obsessed with religion, I move on.

I once dated a man who asked me not to cuss except in the bedroom because he was "Christian". Never mind that he had 2 **stard children with a woman who he never married. We broke up for other reasons which mostly involved the fact that he was crazy and controlling. He tried to get back together with me. When I told him that it would not work out, he left me a very nasty message with colorful language. I called him on said colorful language for such a "good Christian" and received another nasty message with more of the same.

The moral of this story is that I place more faith in a person who just lives a good life, does not preach and is not holier than thou. The end.

The only influence religion has in my sex life is when I yell out:

JESUS, that felt good. Do it again!!!!

I'm quite religious like that.

^^^^^^^^^^ Funny. :)

Marriage (in NYS) is a legal contract. Each partner is legally and financially responsible for the other. There’s nothing ‘spiritual’ about it.

but if divorce is not recognized by god

Why not? Why should any god recognize government mandated ‘marriage’ in the first place? Because the ceremony took place in a building with a cross on it?

….are they saying that passionate sex is more sinful than lousy, dispassionate, orgasm-less sex ?

Sounds like whoever wrote that was stuck with bad lays and didn’t want anybody else to enjoy themselves.

If churches were to ever enter the 21st century, they should come up with divorce ceremonies, just like having wedding ceremonies. That way, people can have their fantasy fairy tale wedding and their fairy tale divorce in the same place. There can be a divorce reception as well, where people put money in envelopes to give to the couple to help towards the cost of divorce. The woman can have a bouquet of flowers that she tosses behind her back, and whoever catches it is predicted to be the next to divorce. And instead of the guy taking off the woman's garter, the woman can remove the guys ball and chain off of his ankle.

Well if by "religious" you mean "Christian", I can believe that you've never been with a "religious" person or rather, them with you. Nobody who is a Christian would put up with the 'tude you exude, dude. Sorry, not out to be unkind but Christians are specifically directed to NOT be with people like what showing the belligerence toward The Father that you're showing here.

If you're talking "religious: as in pagan/satanist/muzzie/druid, then disregard my prior statement. Not all religions are the same

"The moral of this story is..." why would you be with someone like that in the first place and moreover, in bed with him? No red flags there? What were you thinking? If there's a problem in the mix I'd say it would be with the one who'd go to bed with somebody who was obviously this FU'ed.

"A good life" in meaningless as without the Judeo-Christian ethos as a basis, as "good" would strictly be a personal definition. Sans that, I might think that good is as is taught in the koran, sex with animals but I have to kill them afterwards (the sheep lie!) and necrophilia is OK and I don't even have to wash the corpse afterwards. Sort of a "rolled one and a cold one" all in one. Pederasty is OK too as I can marry a girls as young as 6, boink her at age 9 and still be "liv(ing) a good life". I can also cut my wife's head off or stone her to death simply because I suspect that she's been fooling around.

I had a FWB who was very affected by his religion. He had just got divorced from a pretty sexless marriage. They were both very religious. The missionary she lays there kind if thing. He became my. FWB. As a learning thing because he wanted a lot of things he wanted to do sexually. He was a nice guy so I went a ling w him because. He really didn't want knky stuff. Just things ppl usually. Do. With a bit of kink. It went on for a couple years. We didn't see each other too often till I stopped it. Sometime. He would feel so guilty. He could only do FWB cuz he was afraid family & ex would find out. I guess he was supposed to stay celibate till he got married again. A

fter sex sometime he just had to leave fast. I told him to work out his probs. Last year
He was a bit better but needed to still get
over some stuff. He still calls me but it's no fun when a guy leaves here guilty or whatever. If he doesn't leave here happy something is wrong. Lol. I feel.bad for him because. Religion. Had make him hold himself back for so many years. So he likes. A bit of kind & stuff he thinks is wrong. He is. Messed up but his family would get upset if he went to regular. Counseling. N
Instead of. Church counseling. He needs to move away from his family. Get free. He's really nice & prob would make a good husband.
This and many other instances like it make me very, very sad.

It amazes me that something which is supposed to unite people is often a massive divisive factor (to use an extreme euphemism).

Sex is about the only time I pray and say, " Oh God, here it comes!" Then I remember who I am with and say her name instead, and say "Oh _ _ _ here it comes?" I don't want anyone else there except my gf when I have sex. LOL

I'm not religious thank God (irony) but if I was, I wouldn't let it diminish my enthusiasm in the bedroom. After all, in my twilight years I would rather look back on life and repent rather than regret.

I haven't had any problems with religious girlfriends being inhibited by beliefs that convince her to feel guilty about doing something healthy and pleasurable. Girls I know have mentioned a few catholic guys that were like boring, cold fish in the bedroom that refused to go down on them, citing their beliefs as the excuse for their prudeness (or more likely, selfishness). Foreplay and variety was non-existent and, naturally, sex with them would carry no risk of having an orgasm. Anything exciting or adventurous was deemed inappropriate.

Lucky for me I LOVE to be inappropriate. I don't know if Jesus died for me but if he did, I won't let that sacrifice go to waste - I'll have the most passionate, kinky, and pleasurable sex I possibly can, thanks :)

No religion doesn't interfere with my sex life. If I decided I liked someone well enough to have sex with them, I would, without any guilt. In fact if I found someone I liked well enough I might even thank God for him coming around.
Creepy men interfere with my sex life. They're what's stopping it.
Why do people lay so much guilt in sex vs. religion?

Growing up in the buckle of the bible belt I can honestly say that religion ****ed up my sex life! Do y'all know how much frustration god causes horny little boys walking around with diamond cutting hard throbbers poking through their waistline lol? The answer is 'A ****-ton'.

**** your gods, all of you. It only later occured to me that even attempting the act of procreation with someone who believes in the equivalent of santa in adulthood, would kind of make me a hypocrite lol.

Seriously, your god told you not to screw out of wedlock because then people don't get mortgages. When people don't get mortgages, they cease to be slaves to modern serfdom. When people cease to be slaves, they get out of cubicles and live.

Your god told you not to screw so you wouldn't do something crazy like not work a job you hate to buy shit you don't need.

Religion binds sex with mairrage and procreation just to make you a better little drone with more to lose and infinitely easier to control.
