Is GEEK the new BLACK???Page 2 of 2    (1, 2)
Umm, no and no. There is correlation but I can say that if you are trying to compare the two then there is a lot to consider. Love the forum, funny as ever.

^^^ It's an expression that originated thanks to the fashion industry. Black is usually such a fashion staple...but some years it might suddenly be navy, or chocolate brown that dominates as the 'must-have' colour...so the glossy mag media phrasing has been "navy is the new black" etc. The expression found its way into popular culture and is sometimes used as a format in other contexts. So "is geek the new black" is really just asking whether all things geek are now in fashion.

As the social media changes so do people's preferences. Ask yourself? Why a geek 20 years ago was looked upon as unappealing, and today they are the in thing? It is because the social media is dictating and programming us on what is in and what is not in. So many people put a premium these days built on facades. Just be yourselves.

Building a classical geek facade is a construct of my social media mosaic... so Ionia give this artemis before I come acropolis.

A 20 year old didn't have the opportunity to become mega wealthy 20 years ago unless they were a rock star which would eliminate them from geek status. Now anyone with a computer has the means to be hugely financially successful if they apply the right keystrokes and ingenuity.
A few cool million in their bank account makes a geek laugh at the past times when it was only corporate executives and investing baby boomers who were players. And we all know there are only two true aphrodisiacs - youth and money.

The Geek Overloard Chris Hardwick described modern geekiness as: "It's not about whether you like STAR TREK or STAR WARS. It's about obsessing over something to a molecular detail..."

For me that is movies. So I am a movie geek, and I totally accept it.

^^^Molecular detail? Dude, that's so 19th century. Real geeks go to the planck scale, baby!

Well someone had to say it. I'm not a geek, honest.
