Martial arts training as a workoutPage 2 of 2    (1, 2)
I do Tai Chi daily as a workout. I "train" Muay Thai twice per week. I boxed years ago when in H.S. and college,Golden Gloves/NCBA with success but Muay Thai speaks to me more completely. I'd like to do BJJ and Capoeira if I could find a place locally to train.

From personal experience it can be a great workout. I am looking to get back into martial arts, but i don't know if i can afford to join a school. Martial arts is such a great thing to do for all areas of life.

Martial arts training as a workout

To be honest mate, I have yet to see any traditional martial arts that features anything I would title "a workout" as such.

Try western boxing, Muay Thai or a good MMA gym buddy.

BJJ is pretty good as well.

What do you expect in the west where most traditional asian martial arts get watered down into a glorified game fo tag?

I been doing martial arts since I was 7. Judo, wing chun and jujitsu(Japanese not BJJ) for most of my adult life. some of the training session I get a decent workout, but I tend to really feel a burn when working on the bag and doing boxing drills along with circuit training. Not to say I haven't got a good workout doing atemi-waza (throwing striking, doing ukemis) but I really get winded and work up a good sweat when the boxing is added to the other elements in training.
