Spending Christmas AlonePage 3 of 6    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
I'm flying out Christmas morning to spend with parents and extended family. Kill me. Last year I spent it alone and it was actually kinda nice. I promised my mom I'd spend this one with family, so can't renege now. As the years go by I start to hate Christmas more and more. It's mostly a family duty now.

Christmas eve with a really great friend. Dinner at a really great place on the patio none the less. She is someone I have known from high school.
Last May she messaged me and we chatted a little. The next day she ask me my name and when I told her. There was a pause and then I read this " OH MY GOD!I HAD A CRUSH ON YOU IN HIGH SCHOOL!"Nope! We didn't recognize each other.I had been through some hard times losing my mom and having some hard core surgery to remove cancer from my face.We went on a couple of dates. We went seperate ways. I got much needed grief therapy. To weeks ago she messaged to say hello on another site. She is really a sweet lady.I can't wait to see her again.

Ah!!!! the human condition... everyone wants something they do not have.

As far as being "alone" (anytime), a person is only as alone as he/she wants to be. There is a big, big world out there. Lot's to do and lot's of people to get to know. Many good suggestions have been offered on this thread. The question is "what are YOU going to do about it?"

The ex has the kids until 9pm Christmas night. I will have spent Christmas Eve day with my best friend (from high
school) and her family (they love to hear about my dating stories) so I am looking forward to sleeping in Christmas Day and watching NBA games. YES! all day....then go pick up the kids at the airport......just hope all the games are over by 9pm...(kidding) I cannot believe the Heat are playing the Lakers! :(

Not looking forward to it this year. The kids are spending it with their dad and I work. And the place I work is having a flu outbreak that is bad enough that was having to report it to the state. 30 patients with diarrhea, fevers, and vomiting. I am SUPER excited.

Eeeek, Fiery, good luck with all that. They will be happy to have your support, especially during the holidays.

My holiday celebrations started today with some family visiting for a short time. Christmas Eve will be with my mom, aunt and sister and I'm sure to enjoy Christmas Day and Boxing Day at home. Having to work through most of the holidays I'm really looking forward to those two days of relaxation; gazing at the tree and the wonderful decorations that have come alive in my house.

I'm also going to watch a movie or two and drink boozy coffee and hot chocolate. And eat leftovers. Pure bliss!

Maybe a love story just for the hell of it. But if it's winter storming like it was today, I may be into a horror or two!

Thanks. I have the next two days off, and my fingers are crossed that the worst will have blown over by Christmas. I really feel bad for all the people who are going to spend it puking.

Well, I had a great trip planned, but fate or someone decided otherwise, so I will be spending Christmas alone. Last year I was alone except for going to see my dad at the nursing home, but he's gone now. The year before I was alone. My then husband was there, but spent all his time on the computer with the long distance girlfriend he told me he didnt have but has now married... Ah what great memories.
I will be ok, though. Friends around me have suffered recent losses of a child, a parent, siblings, etc. Yes, I'll be alone. I might be lonely because strangely, all three men I've been talking to have gone silent. . But it could be worse. This too shall pass.

^^^^ Kinda sucks that plans do change. For the last week or so, others have decided to "change" things up a bit for me, the daughter, and her sis over the holidays. So, what do I do?? Go with it. I've decided that part of my plans today is to tie some winter flies up for some steelhead that I may have to go chasing on Christmas day. I know for a fact there could plenty of worse spots to spend the day.

But, right now, I gotta take the young one out and drop some food vouchers off to the food bank and then go hit the garden store for a couple things for the gardener of the house!!!! ;) Then, it's time for the food. No matter if I'm with someone or not, a man still has to eat!!!!!

I always cherish my first christmass alone back when I was 24, I was living in Paris that year by the seat of my pantes . I did have a meal with a friends family but what I remember most is that walking around that day in the big city, there was little signs it was christmass, but for the lights on the "Champs". So calm and quiet.
A few years back the weather was clear and I bar b q'ed a chicken alone in my garden . was great! I don't know why people get
so down this time of year? especially people with little reason to be. Think about it, there are always people worse off
than you in this world, so give thanks," best to all and sundry"

Too true. There are lot's worse things than being "alone" at Christmas. But as it has been said before, one is only alone as one wants to be. Merry Christmas all !!

I think Christmas Eve I'm going to stay up late watching It's a wonderful life or Christmas Vacation and then wake up in the morning whenever :) Thanksgiving was filled with family drama so I'm going to spend a little time with my grandparents then do the old "I will be right back" and "hey look over there" then disappear into the snowy winter (hopefully we get some snow).

Merry Christmas, to all...

I'll be alone again, for the third Christmas in a row...it's a bit of a Catch-22. I'm spared the drama that always seems to accompany the holidays, but I will miss the gathering...most of my family, and friends are either passed on, or scattered to the winds.

A bit of melancholy, but...a standing rib roast, baked potato, steamed veggie, and an apple pie...think I'll manage!

I'll head out for a movie, maybe spend a few bucks at the casino...you never know...maybe "she's" out there, too.

A friend from work has asked me to join her and her family for Christmas dinner. I immediately said "yes". Which is odd, because usually I'd have given a fake reason and said no.I dont usually mind being alone and I'm not fond of being around other peoples families (or mine either for that matter). But, this feels right. This friend repeatedly invites me to go to church functions with her. Even though I doubt her church matches my beliefs very well, I'm going to start saying yes, just to get myself out and get my feet wet...so to speak.

I'll have my sons' over Christmas morning.

I am thankful for what I have as thousands in Ontario and eastward are without electricity and may be until this weekend because of the ice storm we had. No electricity and all that food that has to be thrown out. Stores that had to close and homes without power and heat.

Merry Christmas to all. Remain thankful for what you have in life. Many go without.

Nothing like getting over a fever, chills, sweats, headaches, etc. to remind me I'd be terrible as a long term patient. To me, having my health and being pain free mostly--everything else is gravy. I'm content having something good to eat, good reads..so many simple things-- being free of dramas and complications, rushing about, holiday crowds..and having peace, stillness, meditation, time to reflect, do some organizing and planning.

For those of you feeling badly being alone I wish you lived closer - you could come here! Trust me, a few hours in my company.. and the dog slobbering you'll be happy to get back to your " own" space.
I'm not that bad, really ( note my nose is growing as I type)
Merry Christmas, Happy holidays, whatever I should put that is PC. Hmm, Super Dec25?

Merry Christmas, everyone! Wishing you love in 2014. Thanks for the invite, Ouija!

As usual, I will spend Christmas day with my daughter and ex-husband. He's making Christmas dinner. Together we celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving, Mother's and Father's days and all three birthdays, as a little family of three.

I'm just thrilled to have a New Year's Eve date with a hilarious and fun man. Dinner, champagne and live music by The Paperboys. It's our second date. Maybe I'll get a kiss at midnight.

Merry Christmas to all out there, alone or not. Though things may look bleak(in the relationship category) for some of us, we are all breathing and should be able to meet tomorrow's sunrise as another opportunity for a step forward. How we do it is up to us, but, the opportunity IS there. Grab it while ya can!!!!!

Again, Merry HO HO!!!!!!!
