Definition of financially securePage 5 of 5    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Financially secure to me would mean I am self sufficient. I'm debt free and have an excellent credit score. I'm very far from rich and I've never been a homeowner.

Some will say I'm financially secure and others will say I'm not. Some will say I'm stable and some will say I'm not.

There's many different definitions to this term.

I'll copy up my FICO score to add to my dating resume, along with my bank statement (identifying names and numbers redacted) and the reference letter from my ex-husband.

Good heavens... it's all turning into numbers. Will my next introductory message say:

"Hi, I'm only a 5 in looks but my FICO is 810. My GPA was 2.7 but it was Ha'vad and that, as everyone knows, counts double. My current GPS is 29.9792° N, 31.1342° E and my age is un ar un ar un ar bymtheg ar hugain ar hugain. By the looks of your car, your FICO is 630 and your clothes date you to the 90's, but I rank your attractiveness a solid 7.5 - maybe even an 8 if you can show me a photo with a smile. Send me a message and maybe we can hexadecimal together."
?

That's not hexadecimal, that's binary. Ha'vard (or any community college) would correct one on that. :)

I thought it was a response given when asking a really drunk person to count from 1 to 10.

If you do not own a home then many will say you are not financially secure. Not having debts is a good thing but hardly financially comfortable.

If you do not own a home then many will say you are not financially secure.

Depends where you live, and what your situation is. Not living in a metropolis, while having kids and no notion of moving in the forseeable future? I would say one can be financially secure, but usually, yeah there should be concerns if they really are. However, many people without kids and wanting to live in the city & move, etc -- best bet not to buy a house or condo, especially on a mortage (which is just essentially renting from the bank with more bang-for-the-buck for the long term, until it's paid off).

Not having debts is a good thing but hardly financially comfortable.

If one has no debts, living on their own, has a job, car, etc -- is pretty safe to say they're financially secure. It wouldn't imply uncomfortability, either. If they have a car paid off (or bought in cash used or new), no CC debt, no student loans or medical debt, or anything else -- it's pretty good sign they handle things well enough not to be uncomfortable at that point.

It's safe to say male renters get laid but won't have enough security to snag a LTR with a female homeowner that either receives alimony or inherited her pad from his death.

Several male posters here are in the good for shagging as renters category.

Sometimes this place like facebook
New relationship " I'm in love" 4 times a year
I don't see home ownership meaning one is secure if you owe most of it to the bank floating the mortgage.
I reckon renters get into relationships :)

I think it is true that if a female has a home of her own, money to spend, a car she has paid off, she is not likely to settle for a man who does not have the equivalent, unless he is younger and hotter and what is that? Just toy boy situation. lol!

I tend to avoid women, who make it a case to seek such men.
You should seek someone, who is as independent as you are.

To me, someone seeking someone financially secure, and generous, is looking for someone who can support them. I've been there done that, and would never support another lazy woman, again.

I guess men are more concerned about a woman's mental health.

I got a message from a guy a few weeks ago, his whole profile was talking negatively about women being gold diggers. So the professional smart-ass kept bringing it up in our convo, I told him I owned my home outright and had a credit score of 823, he said that stuff didn't interest him, he didn't care about my finances. Well even though the facts about my finances were true, I lost interest quick in a man that wouldn't find that funny....no sense of humor!!!

You know you're financially secure when someone tells you that you don't have enough money and it doesn't bother you in the least.

I think it is true that if a female has a home of her own, money to spend, a car she has paid off, she is not likely to settle for a man who does not have the equivalent

That'd be pretty hasty, tho. I always get a roll-of-the-eyes kick out of those who tout "I'm a homeowner" as if it's some big prize, along with rifling off "professional" every other sentence and using it as an answer to "What's your profession/What do you do for work?".

Many people own a home and are in or on the borderline of foreclosure and broke, and also it's Not a good idea to buy a house in several situations VS renting. And of course, many people can be living in a house owned by a family member who doesn't live there (paid off; they moved; pay prop taxes+upkeep). But some people will buy for the sake of pride when it's not the best idea, as everyone's not in the same area, same situation where it all measures out the same.

I think if you know if one's car is paid off & the amount of flow of cash they have to spend/save -- I think one doesn't need to get to categorization of anything. But yeah, I agree -- if they do know those details about each other, the gal's usually not going to want to date a guy who she's much better off than, unless she's rich (but he'd usually still have to be more than a-okay).

To me it does not really matter what a person owns or, does not own. If they are living with-in their means and have a little something set aside for emergencies then, I would consider them financially secure.

As for anyone actually stating on a dating profile that they are seeking a financially secure and generous person, I'd be very leery of them!

A lot of people substitute the term "financially secure" with "independent", which I see a lot of on profiles. Independent sounds less money hungry than financially secure, even though they mean the same thing.

I'm now an elite home owner.

I can't wait til the equity comparison conversations start happening.

When did you buy yours?

How much was your down payment?

How many square feet?

Maybe I'll just have some easy shags with the renters...

^A comment I hear when someone new comes to my place is: "I can't believe a single guy lives here." They're shocked that I don't leave my dirty underwear and laundry lying all over the floor, don't have 6 months worth of dirty dishes in the sink, there isn't dust two inches deep on the furniture, and there aren't empty fast foods containers in every nook and cranny. A couple of times, I've been asked "Did you hire a housekeeper to clean your place?" I guess keeping a house clean is too high tech for the average guy.

Financially Secure- She doesn't want to pay your bills. This is good
Generous- She wants you to pay her bills. This, not so much.
