Sex drive of men over 40Page 3 of 5    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

way around this for women may be to try to date men that are part of cycling, [\quote]

I have heard that all that sitting on a narrow bicycle seat can have the same effect as brewers droop.
Is that true?

All this thinking about sex... I think I need a cold shower.

Yes and no. Here's the thing. An erection is primarily driven by your cardiovascular system. When your cardiovascular system is in shape, erections can last a long, long time. What the bicycle does do, besides work up your cardio is it makes the area that touches the saddle a little numb. What that does, it delays orgasm on men. That means that actually the guy can last longer because of that. Now, if you are talking about a man that is completely out of shape the effect initially are not going to be good. But if you're getting in shape, and working your cardiovascular system, the benefits go into many other areas. What people do not realize also is that an erection is like the canary in the mine.

Well, I'm 48, and cursed with a crazy sex drive, and no women to enjoy it with. I've always said, instead of circumcision, I wish they had just cut it off completely. It would have saved me a lifetime of total frustration.

^ All the commercials that started showing a while back...I was surprised to think that so many men have E.D. or testosterone issues. I wonder how much of it is catering to men just taking the opportunity to play with that stuff even if they don't need it but pretend that they do so they can use it.

I agree with a lot of the posts. At 47, I'm just as horny as I was at 16, but I also take good care of myself, and my health is very good. My only problem is probably too much tugging and not enough loving. All the porn crap definitely makes you less sensitive for a real woman, yet I go crazy waiting for days to release, even when there is someone special in my life, which is usually not the case. For, me, it seems like I go from horn-dog to not interested pretty quickly, so women probably perceive me as either too aggressive or ambivalent

Only partially correct.

A castrated man can only rarely achieve an erection from a lot of manual stimulation. It doesn't mater how good his cardiovascular system is.

There is also a strong psychological component to sex and erections.

So it takes a good combination of all three conditions. Cardiovascular system, hormones and psychological. When you are much younger, then your hormones often overrule the other two components.

Okay, you got a point. When all things are working somehow together. As we age and testosterone levels go down, things are more difficult to achieve. There's one thing that I think also helps when testosterone goes down, and that is extreme physical activity. One of the repair hormones for the male body is testosterone. So when a man gets extremely physical, to the point that afterwards he is in pain, the body releases testosterone. I do not know if it's more testosterone that he would get otherwise, but it seem to have a tremendous increase, in desire and then in endurance.

Getting a good night's sleep is most critical to keeping a high testosterone. Exercise may contribute to sleeping better.

But the exercise induced testosterone rise only lasts 15-60 minutes, its like 40% and not as pronounced in older men.

And extreme physical excerise on a daily basis lowers testosterone.

I have included some quotes and links.

===================================================

We therefore investigated the impact of an 1100 km run of 20 days' duration on selected pituitary, testicular, adrenal and thyroid hormones. Blood samples were obtained from five male athletes prior to and after the day's run on the 1st, 5th, 9th, 14th and 19th day. Results show that adrenal and thyroid function soon adapt to the daily strain. Testosterone levels, however, were markedly decreased throughout the 20 days while LH levels remained unchanged. Thus i*** appears that the reproductive endocrine system is more susceptable to long-term stress effects than the more vital functions of the thyroid and adrenal glands.

After exercise, testosterone levels rise -- but not for long.

"Sometimes it’s 15 minutes after exercise that testosterone is elevated. Sometimes it can be up to an hour,” says Todd Schroeder, PhD, who studies exercise and hormones in older men at the University of Southern California.

2. Your age: Older men seem to get less of a post-exercise boost in testosterone, Schroeder says -- though this needs more research.

=================================

…The results showed that the guys who had slept for 4 hours, had testosterone levels hovering around 200-300 ng/dl.

Compare that to the guys who slept for 8 hours, they had their levels at around 500-700 ng/dl.

I assume you must have high testosterone levels, it could just be natural and not anything special you do. Though it would be interesting to get it measured.

I know how several different levels of testosterone make me feel and it's really astounding the difference. It all feels "natural" and even changes the way I think a bit. I think I also feel the surge after exercise, though it could be all imagination and it doesn't last long.

Good question. I don't know. All I know is that, for instance, I go do 100 miles on my bike at 98 degree temperature. When I get back to my house, I am dead. I then take almost instantly a 2 hour nap. When I wake up, I am still in pain, then have dinner with my family, maybe some wine, but I crash and go to be early. The next day, the libido is not only out of this world, everything else is also much better. So even though I have no research or factual information, I feel that it improves you.

Also, I've known through the years couples where the guys were swimmers, or runners, or even lifted weight but not to the point of looking like a monster (or using anaerobic steroids) and they talked about their increased libido and performance.
So I wonder what is the effect on testosterone over extended exercise mixed with proper recovery.

Well, I dunno...me, I just don't have and never had any of these issues. I'm 48. I've smoked since about age 23 (Though a pack always lasted me two or three days, consistently. I believe that most smokers who have problems have those problems because they smoke too darned heavily and frequently). I'm not a health nut, but I do naturally eat better than some. I don't work out or jog, but I've never shied away from physical activity...

...and well, I don't get out of breath easily at all. I can get a boner now just as easily, quickly, and frequently as 20 years ago...which can at times be quite frequently. And it doesn't need any kind of medicinal or herbal assistance. And I could keep that boner for hours then, and can still keep it for hours now, without trying - that's just how I naturally enjoy it, without any mind-tricks or fancy boner-keeping techniques.

So, I know that I might just have to be thankful if others develop issues...but I'm still a bit skeptical as to how many men actually do have an issue with testosterone levels or getting boners or having a sex drive. My common sense tells me that there is more to that story (the alleged sudden epidemic of so many men having these issues, being less masculine these days, etc) than is commonly talked about.

Exercise is the single greatest thing you can do for your health, so no doubt it improves a lot of things, the cardiovascular system being on the top benefits.

I know a lot of research has said exercise increases HGH levels, and you need a lot of good sleep for testosterone. Lack of sleep is one of the top causes of lower testosterone.

I will have to give exhaustive cardio a try to see how I feel the next day. I do more weightlifting, and I know if I really push it my muscles are often too sore the next day to feel like engaging in a lot of sex. But cardio wouldn't leave my muscles quite so sore (DOMS).

Best thing to do: Mix viagra with your back pills. So your back won't peter out, and your peter won't back out.

Jesus christ, no guy is going to give you an honest answer about this. All you're going to get is the same old, "Well, I'm 92 and haven't slowed down a bit yet. I get a rock hard erection every 30 minutes, and have no trouble keeping it up having intercourse for six hours each time, but that's after drinking a case of beer and two fifths of whisky after working a double shift, otherwise I can last much longer". No man will ever tell you anything that makes him seem like less of a sexual olympian than anyone else. It simply isn't done. Fact is that as we get older, sometimes the desire isn't there as much, and sometimes the ability to get an erection isn't there as much. It all depends on the man, we're all different. One big hurdle is same-ness. A guy who's been with the same partner for 30 years may not get excited over the idea of having the same sexual episode as he's had the past 5000 times. We aren't wired that way. Where as, if we meet someone new and sexy (someone who looks good, smells good, and is ready to go) we might be able to 'perform' as good as we did when we were 20, even if the recovery period after orgasm takes longer, sometimes much longer (at least that was my experience; at 52 I had thought that my sex drive was diminishing; then, one day at work, this smoking hot, fit, woman who is definitely a '10' walks through my department, wearing a tight outfit, nice perfume, perfect make up, long, lushious hair, well let me tell you I discovered that it turned out there was nothing physically wrong with me at all, it was simply a lack of anything to get excited about for a long time. And old term for this is the Coolidge effect or something like that). Also, physical exhaustion can make it more difficult for an older man to 'rise to the occasion'. When you're 20, erections are so common that we got them even when there's no woman in sight and no thought of one. When y0u're closing on 60, that doesn't happen much anymore, it takes SOME sort of sexual thoughts to get the engine started, so to speak, and even then, if you interrupt the process, it's more difficult to get going again even if we can. Now, this happens with all men. At what age, and health issues can alter this as well, varies from man to man. So yeah. At some point, we slow down. It happens. That's why sex is more than just using a penis. Does this help explain things?

Some people that are not getting what they need sexually would be thinking about it constantly I guess. I doubt women your age are thinking of it as much as you apparently do. How would you know about that anyway? A lot of women in their fifties are over it and not interested and prefer to engage in other activities.

Dee, most men that I know do know have a lessen desire of having sex when they are over 40. It is is something that I come across this message as I hear the same thing from my woman friends. I tell them the same as you. The products are expensive although if you really Love someone the money doesn't matter. Live for today to please your Women's desires. Don't just sleep with her and not discuss the issue . Also if you are on certain medications it will cause the same problem. I was in a head on collision in June of 2014. I am still on medication so my doctor gave me Cialis and it works for me as long as I am having a good day. I also believe I read there is now a generic for Viagra on the market currently. The producer of Viagra are fighting it fiercely. They said they don't believe it will be on the market very long. You know by the time a man is over 40 he should be able to discuss issues with a women as well as woman should be open with any issues they have. Just my thoughts.

Without every ones MOODS sex would be good but as for performance that's different with men as with woman chemically......as for me I load giving woman good oral and have found many woman aren't versed in participating in sex. When I was married she was excellent...we just never became friends...the last relationship, she was a taker and thought all she had to do was lay there....did get oral ONCE but that pretty much ended the deal .....its two part from the physical to ALL....and maybe before life's done I might find her...guess time will tell...lol

You can still be good in your forties if fit.

Recovery from heavy exercise might start to be a problem in the late forties,it could actually drive test levels down.

The bike is not a good idea, pudendal nerve entrapment can occur, side effects could be numbness delaying orgasms and dry orgasms according to men's fitness.

Interesting, I make the assumption any woman my age who is dating is interested in sex. Have not been proven wrong yet. In the 2 LTR's I have had I was the one having trouble matching the pace.
