aj--so glad you hate racism and racists. Wonder why you picked *this* guy to defend your cause? http://www.weirdrepublic.com

He's got fairly predicable rants about Ferguson, Trayvon, Jackson, Brawley, Sharpton, and this cutie: The Rotten Roots of Kwanzaa.

Byrd was a Senator to a state that had been pretty much raped and pillaged for most of its history by rich easterners. He brought jobs and some kind of dignity to a people who'd never had much of either. They loved him till the end. And they grew with him. I've seen less prejudice since I've lived here than any place I've ever lived. A few years ago the local high school lost a star girl basketball player in an accident. It wasn't till five years later that I learned, because I worked with her mother, that she was a mixed race kid. Her mother, white, had married her dad, black, in the sixties. No one ever thought to even mention it. Two marriages broke up when the two wives decided they were in love and wanted to live with each other. They do, and have a thriving little business. Only comment I ever heard was of the husbands: Must have smarted some. Only hate mail I get in my mailbox comes from outside the state, from various Republican hot houses.

Yep. Byrd brought a major FBI Regional Office to WV, and an NSA listening post, and a naval base, and a train, and whole bunches of other good things. All of which meant jobs and schools. Plus he played a damn mean fiddle. Byrd was a man who could be wrong, acknowledge it and change. Rare Byrd indeed. I admired him a lot.

wooby, a poster made mention that they didn't blame MLK if he had weapons to defend himself, what with the KKK etc. Byrd came to mind so that is why I posted what I did, facts. You can spin it however you like, that is your opinion. I was just posting facts and also posting what was "tossed under the rug" Democrats are known to be a very hateful group, and we see it in here from them all the time. Rare Byrd? Not at all, we see the "rare" from liberals in here, so it is consistent.

My, how this thread went south. I'm not surprised in the least.
Slurs and insults thrown about like crayons in a kindergarten free-for-all.
Neither am I surprised by which faction initiated the personal attacks.

btw: The AR15 is a rifle suitable to hunting deer size game.
Retract the take-down pins, remove the 5.56 upper assembly and replace it with the 6.5 Grendel assembly and I have a rifle comparable to my 6.5x55 Mauser.
I also have another semi-auto I hunt deer with. It happens to be an FN49 for which I altered a magazine box to meet the five round limit set by KDWP.

Robert Byrd and his fellow welfare-state parasites transformed West Virginia into the state that God forgot. The King of Pork is dead. No patriot will shed a tear.

^ That is your idea of what a "fact" looks like, eh, aj? Thanks for that information. Carry on.

The Sydney siege required the services of trained specialists..had to deal with a madman after all.. snipers, hostage negotiators, counter-terrorism police. Despite this, 2 hostages were still killed. How is an armed civilian to handle such a deadly situation involving up to nearly 20 hostages.
While proponents gladly swallow the propaganda, barely an ounce of attention is paid to the power bases perpetuating the gun myth by advocates. Contented living in a place believing using dirty ineffective bandaging fixes the problem. Meanwhile the wound festers - analogous to a disintegrating society. Ignore the root causes at your own peril.

Too bad it didn't inspire you to examine the vacuousness of your opinions on this topic, engage with even a shred of discoursive honesty, or actually back up your many risible claims with evidence or reasoning.

I guess the universe balances itself though... because if you'd actually engaged honestly, and read the material offered, you'd know that people who live in homes containing a gun are at greater risk of being shot than people who live in homes containing no gun.

How come you didn't post this fact?

Late in his life, Byrd explicitly renounced his earlier views favoring racial segregation.[55][56] Byrd said that he regretted filibustering and voting against the Civil Rights Act of 1964[57] and would change it if he had the opportunity. He said joining the KKK was "the greatest mistake I ever made."

Mr. Cheat. This is the type of debating the conservatives engage in today. Much like the race to the bottom American industries pursue today-searching for the country that provides the lowest wages, conservative posters only post what they think are gotcha postings....and when they actually do attempt to back up an opinion with third party "evidence" they either don't make any comment upon their evidence (thinking it's another gotcha moment) or they do not include the web link to the source of their "evidence" (thinking it's another gotcha moment-not realizing that it is easy enough to web search the partisan source of the "evidence)

We who look forward to honest discourse have been met with petty gotcha moments...it's like watching another Sarah debate (i.e.-deer in the headlights)

Eric. If I might suggest. Find a range that handles rentals and try as many as you can. Since firearms are as varied in design as people are you don't want one that is neither accurate nor comfortable for you to shoot.
Also, if you are considering a .22 rimfire be prepared to search high and low for appropriately priced ammo or pay the gougers prices. Go here http://forums.gunbroker.com/ and do a search in GenDisc for "22 LR, or 22 ammo". You'll then understand why I mention it.
And as always, feel free to join in.

Make sure you purchase an AR-15, which of course is the weapon of choice of citizens of the Wild West, heck they even use them for deer hunting, which of course is perfectly in line with the psyche of citizens of the Wild West "maximum lead in the air"

Make sure you also purchase a rocket launcher attachment, which would make for a perfect extension of your very small penis.

why the strange obsession with another man's penis?

do you wish to touch it..feel it..perform oral on it?

I don't know Eric personally but I am quite sure from his posts that he is 100% heterosexual..so you're barking up the wrong tree I'm afraid

also there are several thousands kms. between your respective locations..

I'm quite sure that despite the 'macho' reputation that Ozzies like to propagate there are many men of your persuasion much closer to you

What a shame you don't understand metaphors. It was not a gay insult. Anyway as your pea sized brain thinks that accusing someone of being gay is insulting them, proves that you are anti-gay, which of course puts you in the same basket as racists.

Or is your anti-gay stance the result of your ex-boyfriend continually slapping you over your head with his purse for being so stupid?

Well I bought myself a 20 gauge shotgun for Christmas! lol.

I do understand the statistics. But... I live alone. I own a home in a neighborhood that is getting progressively worse. (More than a little bit of gang activity.) There is no way anyone is "sneaking" into my home. If they get in, they will have to kick my door in or break a window. So if all hell breaks loose, it won't be anyone I know coming into my house.

After my very protective dog died last summer I knew I would be buying a shotgun at some point. I hope I never have to use it. But I will if I must.

^^That is my recommendation..a 18 " 5-6 round shot gun( Mossberg security is good). I think even our Canadian friends are allowed to get one(maybe).

I tell people to use a buck shot (small) so it doesn't go though walls as easily and hurt others. Maybe leave the chamber empty so you can SCARE if needed without firing a shot! But I recommend you get a light attachment because in the situation people use them in home defense light conditions are bad usually. And always pump it fully...not doing so is one of the biggest problems with them.

Basically it is the perfect hold yourself up in defensive position weapon as you wait for the cops!

That's exactly what I do. It's a Mossberg bantam. Really light-weight. Ideal for a small woman.

Thanks for the advice on the light attachment and a full pump.

Trinity, since You have bought a Weapon for Self Defense, there is a question You need to answer, for Yourself...
It's question you should ask yourself in the Cold Hard Light of Day.... That question is,....

"Can I use Deadly Force against another Human Being"?

When the Time comes that you need to deploy Deadly Force, is not the Time to be asking this Moral & Philosophical Question. This question isn't asking whether you should in one particular instant, but a General question, Could You at any time shoot someone. People who wait till they need to deploy Deadly Force, to ask themselves this question, are the ones who have their Weapon taken from them & used against them.....

___________________________________________________________________________
robaustralia, I suggest You seek Professional Help for Your Obvious PTSD & Hoplophobia.......

That question is one everyone who owns a Firearm or any other Weapon needs to ask themselves, when they have time to weight all sides of that Delimma. If the answer is Yes, then You have jumped the biggest Hurdle, of using force to protect ones self.

Then when the time comes it's not can I do this, but rather, should I do this.... at this particular time.....

Like I said it's a General Moral & Philosophical Question.........

If my life is threatened, then yes, I can. If someone goes to the trouble of kicking in my door or breaking a window, then I think it's safe to assume they mean to harm me. This is for home defense only.

I just need to be certain that I'm comfortable and familiar with handling my shotgun. (And get a light so I can see.)

@Calguy personally I don't like them and there is the potential to disorientate yourself at the shooters point of view(it happens) .

But they are worth trying, tactical light with a controllable strobe mode. To be on the receiving end of the strobe, is quite disorienting!

Unfortunately it can hurt your eyes as well! So make sure it is a controllable mode function on the tactical light.

Trinity, you are a great example of someone who is responsible. Joe gave a very good thought on a light for your weapon and the reasons behind it. And you sound like you will do that. And behind asked a great question and once again, your response is that you have thought it through.

The majority of people respect and understand the responsibility to own a weapon.
