RobAustralia, you seem angry and are using profanity banned by this website in an otherwise calm discussion.
What you are experiencing is known as "projection" by trained psychology experts.
You potentially do not possess the appropriate temperament to pass FBI background checks to earn CCW credentials, if you were magically to become a United States citizen and therefore eligible to apply for a CCW, depending on which state in which one resides.

Nobody is forcing anyone to possess a defensive firearm. If one does not like firearms, one does not have to buy one.
If one is a resident of a faraway land and does not like freedoms offered in the United States, one does not have to visit. Those in countries other than the United States can make their own moral decisions to travel here or not.

Gee, ****head, you make it sound like the US is the only democratic country in the world.

Anyway the whole point went sailing right over your head.

Freedoms offered in the Wild West

1/ Freedom to purchase a handgun and blow away as many people as you can.

2/Freedom to purchase assault rifles and blow away as many schoolchildren as you can.

Enjoy! All in the name of freedom of course.

Gee, I even had to look up what a CCW is. Now I know it was just an ad hominem you made up, another deflecting tactic.

Sooooo many cases of fire arms not being used for "personal safety". Too many instances such as an easy one picked off the Net for today:

Western Michigan police say an officer and a man who opened fire on police are hospitalized with gunshot wounds. The officers were responding to a domestic dispute in the Grand Rapids suburb Thursday afternoon when a man in his 30s shot one officer. The shooter fled, firing as he ran through the neighborhood. The officers returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was seriously injured, under guard in hospital. One of the suspect's shots entered a home and caused very minor injuries to a resident.

Guess that's a well regulated militia according to the constipa..er tution.

Pickup trucks & SUVs pose a danger to the public(much like the claims that certain firearms are a danger to the public). Pickup trucks are made to haul stuff(much like claims that certain guns are made for certain purposes) - lets regulate them, & require a special license to operate them restrict them to haul a specific amount of gear, & specify what type of gear they can haul(much like restricting certain types of features on a gun).

that's patently obtuse, firearms are manufactured as weapons to kill, assassinate, murder, slaughter, erase, put to
death, eradicate and execute

simple really

And....Regulation is not the same as restriction.

Oh... but it is... they are almost the exact same thing...

here is an example... a regulator (say gas flow) restricts passage (amount of gas)... it can let more pass or it can let less pass... but in either case the regulator restricts passage...

Here is another one... there are multiple regulations placed on automobiles... from construction to operation... failing to meet the regulations will restrict your ability to freely operate the car on public roadways... it can even restrict your ability to sell the car...

Regulations are... by their very nature... restrictions on what may be done or how it may be done...

Of course its not unlimited, much like the 1st amendment. It is regulated....much like the autos mentioned above.

Which does nothing to support your point... but much to support mine... thank you...

Many of these gun laws that since were put in place are being overturned by states, AND by higher courts.

And... many are upheld... what exactly was your point here...?

In that vein, lets go to the logical(?) next step:

It's a good thing you put that "(?)" after the word "logical"... because there is nothing logical about your analogy... relative to gun control...

Or do you just suck at analogies?

I'm not sure why you put the "or" in there... or framed it as a question...

Were you just trying to be polite...?

As if espousing the brilliance of Founding Fathers, consolidated by having family in the military, somehow exemplifies patriotism when fellow citizens are being killed and maimed left and right on a regular basis to the point that a pizza girl shooting an armed robber doesn't even make prime-time. Meanwhile all that is offered as a solution is a paltry shoot to kill mantra. Or to forgo guns altogether in a gun-ridden society.
Meanwhile, US news that made the Australian papers only yesterday. In Atlanta..a 7 yo dead..a 9 yo dead. An 8 yo and a 15 yo critically injured. Ex-wife dead. Shooter offs himself. It's too bad if this guy's premiditated shooting was his first domestic incident known to authorities. Was this the case previously referred to here. Who knows, it's not hard to fathom it being yet another shooting.

The beloved Founding Fathers in our country also created the brilliant First Amendment.
They did not envision internet, email, telephones, television telegrams, telegraphs, cellphones, radios, word processors, typewriters, satellites, and a bunch of other technology, either. Yet they had the supreme VISION to know we needed a timeless and enduring framework for our country.

Did they envision the abundant mess that gun prevalence would turn your country into? Luckily, they understood that laws may need to be changed in future to suit the times. Good Onya Dudes.

Jesus! In 3 days another 109 people blown away by the 2nd Amendment!

Keep up the good work!

But we don't really care about another 109 bereaved families, because our Constitution ensures we we have "the eight to bear arms"

Guns are our right!
As the innocents sleep
Don't fight our rights!
Counting wishes so sweet
Guns are our might!
What will Santa bring
You're too uptight!
In dreams their hearts sing

You want to fight?
Morning light streams in
You'll be in my sights!
A piercing scream
I said guns are our right!
Before a hail of lead
I'll holler up high!
The children are dead!!!

have you kept tally of the millions blown away by governments & their militaries around the world with their self-declared right to drop bombs where/when desired?

or when killed by a government, it doesn't count, I suppose..you are "less dead"

If you live in the States, the likelihood is more from the private citizen, so you wouldn't get your wish. Bad enough people feel the need to blast others outside of their borders, worse still when inside your own with daily statistics being what they are. The internal unrest is more a symptom than a cause of the root problem. The States is inadequately taking care of its own citizens and the reaction is displayed by violence, which just happens to be easier to perform with the availability of guns. The statistics wouldn't be what they are if the perpetrators didn't have the easy access.

Of course individuals have personal responsibility. I've stated that previously. I'm not talking about social assistance handouts. However, the government is largely responsible for mismanagement of the economic social structure which contributes greatly to economic woes of its citizens (job loss/job creation/education/medicare as only a few examples) that, in turn, greatly contributes to crime particularly in the areas of most economic hardship. At the same time, it allows guns to be owned in outrageous numbers in a manner they obviously aren't regulating the use of with any great success.

Now that's just silly. Of course people have personal responsibility - but sometimes, through no fault of their own, bad things happen to good people.

Throwing them under the bus, or giving them a hand, is a pretty good indicator of your society's worth.

Remember - society is not a "thing" - it is a collection of people. So no, the STATE is not responsible for your welfare - but what is wrong with saying that WE are responsible for OUR welfare? (Hint: society is, by definition, a collective)

Currently, for every 12 aggravated assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, rapes, and murders committed in the United States, approximately one person is sentenced to prison for committing such a crime.[28] [29] [30]

That implies that either a) the average criminal commits 12 crimes at a time, or b) it's a horrible indictment of your legal system if you are only managing to catch and convict less than 10% of them. Maybe if you could fix that, you wouldn't need as many guns.

Law abiding gun owners are not the problem - your outrage should be towards the thugs that commit these crimes and with our judicial system.

Really? Well, let's just look at one of your own stats ..

* Of 1,662 murders committed in New York City during 2003-2005, more than 90% were committed by people with criminal records.[32]

so - given that 10% of murders committed in NYC were committed by people *without* criminal records, it's good to know that only 166 people were murdered by good, honest, law-abiding citizens.

You see, that's the problem. Every criminal, at one time, WAS a law-abiding citizen - until they weren't. There's a first time for everything - and allowing so many people to walk around with things that were designed specifically for killing other people is just asking for problems.

It's not your government you should be worried about. It's your idiot,well-armed neighbors.

well the concept of "we" , the fictional society, the "People", not individual people, (persons) if taken to its logical extreme leads you to DPRK (North Korea), the old DDR (East Germany) or the old USSR, "the people" represented by the Commissars

Message 501 "The firearm fetish is an entrenched part of US culture. All the attempts to rationalize this fetish with logical reasoning prove again and again to be feeble..."
Fetish? Lol. With statistics like I posted above - I would say it's a matter of wanting to defend ourself and our family.

Yes, fetish, as in:

b : an object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion : prepossession

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fetish

The odd thing is that the American fetishizing of firearms didn't begin until sometime in the 20th century-- starting maybe in the 20's or 30's and then really taking off in the 70's-- it certainly didn't exist when the Constitution was written. Firearms were more of a practical matter then.

In fact, I was really quite obsessive about firearms as a child and young adult myself. But I grew out of it... mostly ; )

Yep since the 1991 Gulf War 285,000 civilians have been killed. Since 1991 738,000 citizens of the Wild West have been blown away by the 2nd amendment. You could sort of call that population control I suppose.

You know, you may be right But I'm also pretty sure that the way to avoid a logical extreme is not to bury yourself in a bunker at the OPPOSITE logical extreme. And now that I think of it, I also seem to remember another country who's founding document starts with "We, the people". If only I could remember it's name .........

This is the update on the pizza delivery woman who shot one of the thugs:

DECATUR, Ga. -A pizza delivery woman says in her five years on the job she has never had any trouble but that all changed two weeks ago.

Too fearful to use her real name, so we will call her "T", says she was attacked by an armed robber while delivering pizzas for Papa John's in Decatur. The gunman forced her to the ground. That's when "T" says another man approached them saying he was going to kill her.

So "T" reached into her coat, where she kept a gun for protection, and shot one of the men in the face. She tells FOX 5, " I knew it was either going to be me or them." "T" then took off running. Police found one of the suspects, 24 year old Donquez Stevenson at the scene another suspect fled in the victim's car.

Police say "T", who acted out of fear for her life, will not face any charges.

Anyone with information on the attempted robbery is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.

The victim's car was heavily damaged in the robbery and her belongings stolen. Her friends have set up a go fund me account to help recoup the costs. If you would like to help you can visit gofundme.com/sixshots

http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/27919952/pizza-delivery-woman-who-shot-armed-robber-speaks-out

Hopefully, posters here will send her a donation.

I doubt that she would be safe working out of that location again.
The fact that she does not want to be identified makes sense given one of the thugs is still at large

And the above... is what an example of 'idiot posting' looks like... which means... for those slow on the uptake... 'idiotic drivel posted by an idiot'...

It really is interesting that you put "people" in quotes... Clearly... you do think that certain persons aren't people... That ability to dehumanize others... is the single biggest identifier of an abject racist that exists... So now... you've finally admitted what you have tried so long and hard to deny... you are a racist...
