Can you please expand more on how you get men to attend a MeetUp function.
Just about ANY I attend and/or organise there is an oversupply of women.

Irrespective of the activity.
Exceptions are things like soccer.

Even sailing, hiking, kayaking, running etc all have more women than men and hardly any single men.

The most recent MeetUp I attended was a week ago to a free open air Opera.
About 30 people turned up.
3 men and two of the men were the organisers.
It was a combined MeetUp of 2 groups.

That's a good question re Meet Ups. Some things that may help :

I find the key to sane gender ratios in social groups is being active in organizing male-oriented events. We do touch football, floor hockey, bowling. This gets the guys participating. My boyfriend loves these. The guys become buddies and part of a social circle. They also interact better with the women this way by playing sports and a few connections happen.Then, they are more likely to attend dances, potlucks if their friends or some woman they like sign up.

Also, makes sense if you have a choice of clubs, then go with the rock/metal cover bands rather than lighter music like electronic or female lead singers.

Anyways...most of our events are about 60/40 female to male ratio. Last week we had an outing to a sushi restaurant and it was 16 women, 2 guys. Wednesday we have wings/pool at a local bar and it's about 50/50. It's a no brainer that most men prefer a bar to a sit down restaurant.

Another strategy is to have a joint meeting. The astronomy and science meet ups are about 75% male. Talk to their organizers and ask if you can invite your group to one on their lectures/events. We usually do a joint meeting at least once a month with another group...also adds new members to both.

You are not likely to get parity in a social group but can tilt the numbers a bit. Some men just become old at a young age and are inactive. Women tend to be more social. Anything over a third male participation is an achievement.

I thought V Day was the public holiday celebrated on May 8, 1945 , victory in Europe day , WWII . I think changing V Day to valentines day is a disgrace to families who lost family members in WWII .

I had a noon pedicure followed by a mid afternoon meeting at a fire station, tripped going in the door...that did the shoulder. Lots of wine for dinner. Stay away from fire halls, lol. We all have the odd story.

I would not go as far as buying myself roses on the day, they cost so much and do not last. I would rather a potted plant with a red flower of some sort, if anything. I do buy chocolates and hand them around my neighbours who are also my friends. It is a commercialised day but we do not have to buy into it, after all. As others have said why not celebrate love of all kinds?

After thinking it over, I want to do something for valentines day. I am not sure what, but this past weekend really sucked, so I want a good one for valentines.

Picking up women is out of the question, but I want to do something fun. I have to think long and hard on it.

How Valentine's Day originated:

Valentine was a Roman doctor who became a priest and became famous because he was marrying the soldiers secretly in an era in which the Roman Empire was prohibiting it.

The Roman emperor Claudio, dictated an unusual order, he said that the Roman empire needed good soldiers, and when soldiers are married they don't fight well because they only think of their women, it was for this reason that ordered the prohibition of marriage.

Valentine, the young bishop aware of the arbitrary acts of the Emperor, invited all lovers (Soldiers ) to marry in secret, valentine married them and said to them that stronger than the war is love and blessed them.
When the Emperor heard of this disobedient Bishop, called him, and told him to choose between the lovers wedding or his funeral and put him in jail.

While in jail, valentine met the daughter of the jailer who was blind, he fell in love with her, and he said to her that the things important in life are not seen by the eyes but with the heart.

Valentine was decapitated on February 14 of the year 270

Valentine's Day coincides with the time of the year in which the birds start to pair, February.

And update on my own Valentine. We did go to the Ballet and it was out of this world awesome. Unfortunately the thick, expensive coat that she bought, had to remain at the house, since it was 60 degrees that night. Everything was beyond our expectations so it was awesome. She wore an incredibly gorgeous black dress that accentuated her thin body and long legs. Our sits were smack in the front middle of the Opera house. I had forgotten that I got a special promotion for the ticket and saved myself about $150. After that we went to an Organic food type of restaurant that is ope 24 hours. Then we stayed up all night doing the unmentionables. She slept most of Sunday while I went and did a bike ride. Sunday night we watched the Grammys.

Next weekend, when the actual Valentines' day takes place we're not doing anything other than going to my place and pack into boxes all my stuff, since we are going to move together before the end of the month and our plant is to build a house together. In fact we already designed it and are now talking to the architec and builders.

So there good stories out there. So have a great Valentines even if you're spending it alone, or with a good friend.

I saw all of those sad sacks at the grocery store this morning buying the roses, stuffed animals, balloons, candy, and cards. 

They were going to catch hell if they came home empty handed.

If a person doesn't have any loved ones to spend VD with, you can always send a cake or candy to our troops overseas, there are sites that do that. You can send care packages. You can visit nursing & assistant living homes and bring treats or needed items like blankets, etc., or just visit with those who don't have any family showing up. You could send flowers to hospitals to give to those who don't get any. You could send your love to many places in your locale by donating/volunteering. You could anonymously give gift certificate for dinner to a couple you know can't afford it. You could donate to a shelter or food bank.

Well I survived yesterday Valentines Day / my birthday extremely well.
Lovely presents. :)

Had 3 offers of no strings sex, from, real life, acquaintance men, early in the day, who I suppose were also lonely.
Wonder how many different women were on their lists?

The man I invited to accompany me to the open air concert was a perfect gentleman.
No romance.
No scandal.
We got very wet when it rained. But a little bit of rain never hurt anyone.
Good company, lovely picnic, great music, spectacular location and some dancing.
This year was less lovey dovey than last year when there were two proposals of marriage on stage.
Perhaps the singer being gay and recently married and lots of same gender groups of people in the audience kept the OTT mushy stuff down.

A couple of tears of loneliness on the drive home. But in the scheme of things all good.

The rest of the day with friends and family was excellent.

So back to square one in the romance search for me.
