Last year my financial adviser sent me a beautiful potted pink cyclamen plant on Valentine's Day. When the 'flower delivery van' pulled up in my driveway, I assumed they had the wrong house. Whatta sweetie! Made my day~

That was sweet Beauty :) And yes they mark up the roses, plus side if you have a sweet tooth 1/2 candy on the 15th.

How long do roses last before they wilt and die? I'm thinking if a guy was to buy roses a week or so before Valentine's Day and hide them until the big day, before the price skyrockets, then it wouldn't be as much of a rip-off. But it would be a bad plan if they die a day or two after V-Day. The florist gets them from some far away place, which could take a while to reach the flower shop, so how do the suppliers keep them fresh all of that time?

^^^^^ Starts about right now, a week or so before the "big day". Refrigeration is a biggie to keeping the cut flowers, "alive" looking.
If and when I have bought flowers/plants, they are have always been ones that are alive and can be transplanted, or keep in the pots, until they are killed be the recipient of said "gift". Most women that I have "known" couldn't keep a goldfish alive for more than week, let alone nuture a living plant.

If holidays and things like Valentine's Day are special to you then you should make sure that's one of your deal breakers is your mate feeling the same way, why resent your mate or expect them to do something they don't want to do? If you hate giving gifts or think special days are out to get you, then why bother yourself with a mate who wants to be pampered on these special dates? I don't get the loathing or hate or teeth grinding, just be open & honest and don't be with someone you will be resenting several times every year, year after year...what's the point.

Many local fire departments here sell roses 2 dozen for $25 Feb 12-15.

Wow, a woman telling a guy how to save money when spending it on her...I'm impressed........

I have a finely honed plan for Valentines weekend-
Saturday night-Watch the NASCAR Sprint unlimited.
Sunday-Watch NASCAR qualifying for the Daytona 500.
Buy a new Stator for my girl. Than I can ride her all summer with no complaints from her charging system. $119 bucks well spent.

How long do roses last before they wilt and die?
Depends on the quality of the roses.
I have seen roses keel over and die the next day without ever opening, and others that solely opened over a 10 day period before they finally died.

I think I'll take myself out
I always find myself single for Valentine's Day. No worries. I plan on making myself a nice dinner and having a glass of wine. I'll add a few extra treats in the kittens dish because she is my love. I may even buy that perfume Ive had my eye one.

I can take or leave Valentine's Day. It's beautiful out here, so I'll most likely go surfing like I do most weekends :-)

I don't get the hate for valentine's day either.
It's just like any other day or father's day or mother's day, etc.
If you don't celebrate them...don't.
Most people enjoy being nice all year around.
I think most of the holidays were invented for people who are
***holes all year long. It gives them a day to shine.

since I have been single I go out and celebrate by myself - for myself. I always go to The Keg have a nice salad and a filet mignon. I refuse to let the world tell me it is a day for couples. I love my own tradition and there is no worrying about who is paying and if I have to put out!! lol

I much prefer culinary roses. I have a jar of some I dried for my cooking purposes...and another from an Asian shop.
It's safe for my guinea pig to eat fresh rose petals, so I give them to her.

There isn't anything wrong with celebrating yourself. Enjoy and have a great time!

My late husband would always give me something for Valentine's Day on February 15th.
All the chocolate would be 1/2 price that day .. ...His gift to me was usually a couple of really big heart- shaped boxes LOL Those were his favorites. Take a bite "nah, I don't like that one".. try another ...
I don't need a holiday to tell someone they are special. It means more when it's random.
My favorite flower of all times is when I was upstate NY with him( he was boyfriend then) and he drove on the wrong side of the road so he could reach out the window and grab a wild lily for me just because I thought it was pretty
And I am sure his was when we wereat Daytona Beach and I wrote I LOVE BOB in huge letters in the sand so that it could be seen from the sky.

Yes what does one day matter???. Buy on the 15th and you save money and the chocolates still taste good. I would prefer a living red plant in a pot to a dozen red roses that wilt within days and cost a small fortune. A silver heart shaped pendant that can be worn for years was my best Valentines Day gift.

I plan on buying out all of CVS and Walgreen's half priced chocolate covered cherries the day after and making killer brownies with them.

On my way to work yesterday, stopped by the grocery store. Picked up 2 bags of chocolates for co-workers.
Picked up some PepperRidge Farm and Little Debbie's sweet treats, for the grandkids, ages 11 months, (the twins) to 8 years. Next stop the post office. Picked out the pretty pink and red box, filled it with the treats, along with a Valentines card for each child, and sent it off with the hopes, my grand kids will be tickled pink!
I will mail a card to my mom today.
Have a card and kitty cat/heart socks for my daughter.
Housemate gets a card and socks also.
Dinner with BF on Sunday.
Is there a rule somewhere stating Valentine's Day is ONLY for couples?
If so, I'm happy to break that rule!

I wonder if the stores sell all the lingerie they order in - the heart shaped undies, etc. The Try It guys you tube made me laugh :)

I'll be sleeping and dreaming of a great V-Day. The next best thing, I suppose.
Posted: 2/10/2016 9:07:47 PM
I guess I'll be eating bags and bags of colorful candy hearts with silly messages on them and then barfing
up a rainbow.
Just like last year.

I've only had someone to spend-day with once in my life when I was 18. actually once in my early 30s too i think.
For all you vancouverites, you might know that the variety show of hearts telethon will be on global tv. So that's where I'll be sunday all day. That's even more exciting than flowers and chocolates. k, flowers only maybe. Let me not be crazy now.
