Uh-oh. If you say you're single and you're divorced, you're lying? Whoopsie.

IMO, in most cases, Yes. Technically you could say you didn't see Divorced and saw Single first and that fit but didn't put it into context -- so yeah, that would be not necessarily lying, but sloppy. :)

It's more like a multiple choice test where it's "Choose the Best answer", but there's only 1 right answer. Remember, it's not a true/false question. It's the Conditions of you being single (or not) -- not whether you simply are or not.

I guess you could make the case you're not lying if, say, your marriage->divorce was something that happened at 18 as some drunken thing and couldn't get it nullified but ended up having to go thru a divorce on paper to get out of it.... I could understand that, as merely having That wouldn't put you in the same boat as 99.99% of the people Divorced.

But yeah, people will lie and say "Single" and not Divorced, among many other things.

My driver's license says I'm 5'9", but I say I'm 5'10" on dating sites because every time I measure myself, I get 5'9+3/4". Where do I sign up to have my pants set on fire?

Many licenses, when you renew them, don't measure you -- they just ask. So if you are 5'9"+ 3/4" -- you lied on your drivers license, but not online... as you are more 5'10" than 5'9".

^ Well...technically...if you are 5'9" & 3/4, you are 5'9" even though that isn't all you are, but you aren't 5'10" just because you're closer to that than the other. You're still 5'9", but not 5'10" because you're a quarter away from that.

he is closer to 5'10 than 5'9 in fact... so he is not "still 5'9". With men every centimetre counts especially with online profiles.!

And what of the widow(er) that has since re-married and divorced.

Are they still honestly a widow(er)?

I find the widow(er) status odd after a subsequent marriage and divorce...

No, technically, if the measurement scale is rounded by inches -- you're 5'10" if 5'9.75".

5'9.75" is not 5'9" any more than than it is not 5'10". In fact, 5'9.75" Is 5'10" more than it is 5'9".

some guys with little to offer may lie to get that first meet but what then? They are soon discovered and then face rejection and possibly ridicule.

Message #97:
I lie, not on my profile, but when asked elsewhere. I round down to the nearest ...5 pounds.

Message #98:
Truth be told, I thought height on a profile meant height with shoes on, right?

I mean, when we meet, I'll be wearing shoes and not socks.

Don't be surprised if someone goes on a date carrying a measuring tape and a weight scale.

Men probably lie about height. Women lie about weight and especially age by 10 pounds and 10 years in many cases.

""""Has anybody else noticed this - that lying on profiles seems to be the rule rather than the exception now?""""

Yes, I have noticed, and I've only read one man's profile: my own. It is definitely full of lies. I despise the person who wrote something like that.

Luckily it attracts nobody, so nobody will get hurt. My lies are normally not self-aggrandizing, but the exact opposite. It's due to the abuses I underwent in childhood.

Happy dating, everyone. I mean, everyone else.

I do too. I'm 5'3.75", but everywhere it says I'm 5'4". I think the officials sort of have had mercy on me. They figure eh, what the heck, let's give the little guy that little amount of respect that God neglected to provide for him.

Also, I've become rotund: big, round stomach, with thighs not chopped off. This is also due to my heavy (no pun intended) preference for rounding instead of truncating.

It's a definite deal breaker if someone says they're 5 ft. 6 3/4 in., and the person turns out to be 5 ft. 6 23/32 in. tall.

If you look for the bad in people you will find it. Maybe start looking for the good points and focus on that as a potential foundation for a relationship?

The best and most exciting lovers in my past life were all nutcases, in one way or another.

None of them cooked -- that was not their forte. These ladies considered cooking too much effort and one which would take too much precious time away from the real important things in life, like orgazminge. Although their method to win a man was nevertheless the same, "a woman's way to a man's heart is through her stomach" and her other parts.

My x and major squeeze for decades called herself "widow" despite her husband's dying two months after their divorce. No, the particular dead gentleman in question was not me, but a former lover of my xgf. I had to insert that clarification due to tonight being Hallowe'en, when ghouls and souls and old bad soups come to life.
