Dresses are for girls and pants are for boys isn't some rule, it's just some code that never did make any sense and yes, it's just bodies and it's just gender.

I wonder how many of us have seen our fathers, brothers, grandfathers, uncles in a dress? Just asking.

Actually, if you are of Scottish ancestry, quite many have.

Reminds me of the stories of people beating up men for growing their hair long in the 1960s.
Because back then "everyone knew" that long hair was only for women.
Those blasted Beatles subverted male youth into wearing long hair!
Men were not allowed to have hair longer than half a toothpick. If they did, they were suspected of being communist..or worse.

It's absolutely ridiculous to think that boys wearing dresses means there's no end to...what?

I dont know...stupidity? How about everybody just wear what ever they want...go topless go bottomless...wear a tent...saran wrap....diapers...hefty trash bag...nobody really cares how much you embarass yourself as long as you don't force them to do it as well. That's the key...the "I want it so everybody else has too as well" mentality.

Technically, most wouldn't feel weird or have a problem with a "dress" technically. It's the frilly flowery kind -- much like a Shirt -- that gives things the male vs female thing. It's the style that's the thing. Guys could end up wearing thick robe-like "dresses" of a certain style that wouldn't exude femininity. Like long hair, if a guy puts them in pony tails and cute pink hair ribbons -- yeah, that will look very girly (for a girl or guy).

And like it was said before -- Scottish kilts and such. Such things coming into fashion, I could see it being adapted thru the fashion circuit over time and no-biggie.

no-biggie.

Well if that's the case why don't you be a trend setter and start wearing a dress tomorrow...be a leader with this fashion statement instead of delegating it's implementation to school children. :/

On St Patrick's Day or Halloween, I could do that -- but in the 60s, I wouldn't be the trend-setter with long hair, either. Of course, it becomes "no biggie" once the trend Is established. You first need some pawns sacrificed. :)

Kilts have been worn at ceremonies of various kinds, and always with the accessories. Not comparable to a dress.I read many years back that Scottish trannies are not interested in the kilt.

Why do some people notably Ontario educators want young (very young) people exploring their sexuality at a very young age?Hmm. ...maybe try being a girl for awhile eh?

Does anyone want to "force" other guys to wear dresses?
If it's a "free" society, why does people exercising freedom make some people so angry?
Does it threaten their sense of what " should be"?
All must conform to the "norm"?

Seriously, boys in dresses are where you draw the line? LOL It's not like males haven't been wearing dresses or make up or have had ribbons in their hair before.

Dear dayna, I said this:

Regarding basic human / civil rights, where does it end? Lines have to be drawn somewhere.

You didn't answer my question......have you ever seen the male members of your family wearing dresses? If not why not?

Are you trying to be condescending? Where I draw the line is when every "special child and enabling parent" who just has to have his/her wants mandated on every other child because thats their right, and forces those "rights" on every other child who doesnt have that desire or want.

I have to imagine you would'nt have any problems getting your grandson to wear a dress to school this morning then, makes no difference whether or not it's school policy since men have worn dresses down through the ages right? Don't worry about whether he wants to or not, unless of course embarassing "your" children or grandchildren is where "you" draw the line. Just like I'm sure you're pro open restrooms and dressing rooms, until its your granddaughter that has to go unescorted into a restroom or locker room with men posing as women.

On St Patrick's Day or Halloween I could

Wow...as long as it's a day where looking like a complete idiot is excusable you could do it. Thanks for proving my point with the "as long as it doesn't affect me, I'm good with it" mentality.

Screw the kids that are forced to everyday because Timmy's mom sued the school to force all the boys to have to wear dresses like Timmy "wants" too because that's his "right".

If I see a boy wearing a dress...I know he's a product of bad parenting, and understand it's not his fault....

Also yesterday, a law was passed in Alabama which calls for the arrest of anyone not using the restroom that's consistent with what's on their birth certificate...but they didn't go overboard with the discrimination like the other places....

They going to ID?
Thinking that people who are checking out others genitals in the washrooms are the problem, not the transgendered folks.
I find it interesting how some get so worked up over a boy wearing a dress. Same people who call boy dolls " action figures" would be a guess :/
Next up Gender neutral names, stop the madness

Societal norms are always right and should never change? OK..then there should still be different bathroom facilities (and schools), based on skin color throughout the US south..use "your" designated bathroom. ? People were arrested for not using the one designated on their ID.

Ewwww, "muns"..every quasi-hipster thinks they are so radical and trend-setting by copying the female librarian bun (top-knot) that all their male cohort has..it's OK to be trendsetting after a quasi celebrity starts it. Pretty much guarantee that every male staff member in an indie hipster coffee shop will have one
On bigger (fat) guys it makes me think of Sumo wrestlers.

^^^ I believe they did that already, it was stupid back then too.

They could get rid of the man-bun and I'd be fine. I'm waiting for the man-beehive. No one seems to whine about a male soccer star taking a women's hairstyle and making it a men's hair trend.

Funny how many people believe societal norms must be slavishly followed..never questioned, never challenged..especially people from the USA? Had the original founders followed that line of thinking, y'all would still be part of England, pledging fealty to the Queen.
Abraham Lincoln challenged societal norms..most historical heroes did.
Rosa Parks should have been slapped down for challenging societal norms?

Well...Canada continued slurping off the King's sausage for years after the USA...kicked England out....soooo, I guess such activity is common there.
What's funny to me is why so many men have taken up this issue...clearly the confused single moms would cheerfully jump at the chance to stay connected to her punk azz son...but a man encouraging a boy to wear a dress is a fagg act...

However...here in the US...boys wearing dresses won't be tolerated...at least not by those under 18...those of you that live in countries beyond the stars and the moon, can do what you please...just keep it away from us.....

Actually, Canada is still sucking on something from England and I'm all for severing ties with that dysfunctional family before the real crazies take over. Its time Canada, Aus and a few did the "thanks Queen Elizabeth, we can handle it on our now". I am not a Monarchist.

On topic, someone sent me this this morning -

Thing's you don't get to choose:
*Sexual Orientation
*Gender Identity
*Height
*Weight
*Appearance
*Disabilities
*Mental Illnesses
*Race

Things people do get to choose:

*To not be an ignorant b!tch-faced azzhole to people because of things they have no control over.

Now I know Dee and a many one other person think that people are all jumping on the band wagon to be "cool" and deciding to be LGBT just all willy nilly and going all goofy with excitement like they would over a new IPhone 8 or something...who, again, WHO would choose this? WHO? I would not "choose" to be Jewish in 1942 Germany or "choose" to be black in 1950 Mississippi. Gay is not a new pair of shoes or a hairstyle or a fad like a pet rock. I actually really wonder about the intelligence of someone who thinks people "choose" this.

No, I am not being condescending in any way, I am saying that I lived through the area of when girls/women in pants were the butt of jokes to down right hated and a demand that we look & act like girls, or else! It's stupid, nothing happened when women started wearing pants. Of course women have worn pants before and men have worn dresses before and in fact little boys used to often be in gowns until they started walking around. It's just made up rules, it has no basis other than some people have very fixed mind sets and think whatever is right in their mind, is right for everyone.

Nobody needs to worry about boys wanting to wear dresses, it's not the end of anything, it's just something to do because every new generation hasn't lived in the past and many want to make things 'new' in their generation. Long hair on guys in the sixties, women not wearing bras, girls with flowers in their hair....yes many people thought the world was coning to an end. People make up this drama, when in fact, a boy in a dress is not drama.

And what the heck would it mean if men in my family did or did not wear a dress? What's the proof of, that there are made up rules? Many women in my family never wore pants either, so what does that prove, now that women wear pants all the time and hardly anyone goes on about it like it's the end of something. We are born, we get a quick run through our youth and to do all the crazy things kids do, then we are parents and suddenly it hits us, our teenagers are crazy! What are we going to do! They want to dress their own way, they want to challenge things, they makes us sweat, then we are grandparents and holy moly what are those kids doing now!?! Rinse and repeat. My parents drove their parents & grandparents crazy by all the things they did to, etc. Nothing is going to happen if males wearing dresses comes to be the fashion, nothing, except older people protesting, which is just wasting your time.

I would stare at a boy in a dress, it would be odd to me, I'm not used to that. But that doesn't make it wrong for any boys who might want to wear a dress. And yes some would want to wear floral dresses, stop trying to make being male about what someone wears. I remember when boys/men in pink dress shirts or polo shirts were made fun of, called names, etc., all this stuff being said against males in dresses now. Remember hot pants, and mini skirts and puka beads and poodles skirts and music, oh my gawd how each generation reacts to new music, boy do I hate rap, but so what, I don't have to demand that it's wrong for other people to love rap music, nothing is going to happen if someone loves rap music. And yes, I have seen a couple of men in my family in dresses, not to wear but to goof around, just like one day it might be seen as wrong for girls to wear dresses but some will just to goof around, then generations down the road, some girls will want to wear dresses when it's been out of fashion for decades and people will get all bent out of shape about girls in dresses! Everything old is new again.

You choose to have an affair
You chose whether to solicit and have relations with a minor.
You choose to engage in a threesome.
You choose to sleep with your daughter.
You choose as a man to wear a girl's dress (we are not talking about kilts, etc.)
You choose to engage in relations with someone of the same sex.
You choose to sleep with your son.
You choose, as a woman or man, to use the bathroom marked for the other gender.

I am black. No choice.

I was told that there is a bet to see who can get me to write "Jerome's Law."

I have decided to let Lily win!

For those unknowing, it is a variation on Godwin's Law, only blacks and slavery as opposed to Nazzzis, Hitler, etc
------;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

No one wants to force men or boys to wear dresses for girls and women.

Some men are CHOOSING to do that.

I was wondering the same thing(s).

As I read through this thread, I don't see anyone advocating for forcing boys to wear dresses. I do see them talking about allowing them to.

I can't imagine any young boy wanting to be physically assaulted or at the very least, denigrated in front of his peers. Why would a child chose to subject themselves to this?
