One advantage that Scotland and Wales have over England and the UK is that what their parliaments / assemblies do is more obvious. The UK is so big in terms of people and governance that a lot can be hidden behind a smokescreen of government departments and councils. For example, a lot of journalists focused on the amount of money Kensington Borough has in its coffers with accusations of not caring when that money could have been spent on social housing. What should have been investigated are the government rules which forbid councils from reinvesting the money from council houses sales into social housing. The Scottish situation is different with the parliament being much closer to the people than the UK one.

as i said on another old thread, the right to buy was not such a bad thing.
what made it bad is as chappy said what they were permitted to do with the cash.
many council estates were in such a bad state the houses needed a lot of money spent, if only to meet new standards, money the councils never had, so many council properties were left empty because without updating they were not allowed to let them and never had the money to update them.
so by flogging off these liabilities they could generate money which could and should have been spent updating some and building more, the discount to the tenents would go some way towards compensation for the need to spend money on them.
in essence it was a good idea but the way it turned out made it a not so good an idea.

I agree with KY. This government hasn't a clue about how to deal with brexit and didn't before they had the referendum.

We do need a second referendum before we accept the negotiated position and I agree that there will be people on the streets because an awful lot of people will not accept staying in the EU.

But that is what we need to do. Soon.

When my Scottish great grandfather was a wee lad, he left the slums of Glasgow to come to Canada. I dinna ken what he would of thought of Scottish independence. The Scots made Canada, so it seems likely it would be a natural home for them.

The 1p is way out of line, even te Telegraph reckons it to be 52p per Briton whatever they are. The cost of security is totally unknown, apparently release of that information would risk a breach of security. How any terrorist glean anything useful from that bit of information I have no idea.

We do know that the Welsh police spent something like 1.4 million a year in security when prince William was training in Wales but that didn't include his normal security by Scotland Yard. When you consider that even Prince Andrew's 2 little princesses get security you can see how the numbers add up to quite large sums. I have figures of as much as two hundred million a year touted.

As for Queen/King versus President is a nonsense. The Irish, Germans and French manage perfectly well with a president which doesn't cost too much. It is only that we the serfs are not allowed a say in the matter, this stuff is foisted on us.

I don't care whether we have royalty or not. My Mum used to get great pleasure from them and her pleasure made me happy. And that's true for a load of people in the UK. If we had a referendum about the monarchy i'm not sure which way I'd vote.

I can see why you just might be a bit annoyed by your experiences and I can also see why you want to do something by getting involved in politics.

The 42 day wait for money is because the government assumes everyone is paid monthly in arrears and so can easily manage a 6 week wait. Pure nonsense. The people most likely to lose their jobs will be weekly paid. That's a long time to survive without money.

I've not has much contact with the Jobcentre. I did go to them for help back when I was about 25 and again when I was made redundant 14 years ago. They were as helpful to me as a chocolate fireguard.

Depending who you read, implementing the UC system is costing somewhere between 2 and 15 billion. I have never understood where they get these numbers from, after all it is only a computer system and a bunch of wires.

Copy this letter and give it to anyone who is sent to atos/maximus. Have a third party like citizens advice fill in the esa 50 form. That means it is independently filled out. Get a photo copy of the form for the claimant as well Tell atos/maximus you want it recorded. The fraud acts mean IF they try and put their own words in they have commited fraud. Yes WE won. A simple fact is that until the Scots get up off their knees and become a nation again we are bound by our ties to englandshire, welsh wales and over the water.
